Looking for a way to beat the Upstate’s (not-so-harsh) winter? Enjoy the classic tale of Robin Hood at the South Carolina Children’s Theatre! Robin Hood is reimagined for more modern times, but its main storyline remains the same: Robin Hood and his band of Merry Men champion justice and equality while also outwitting the Sheriff of Nottingham. SCCT’s Robin Hood runs for two weekends between January 28-30 and February 4-6. Tickets are on sale now! The South Carolina Children’s Theatre is also sponsoring a giveaway for two tickets to one of the performances. Enter below!

Thanks to our partner, the South Carolina Children’s Theatre, for sponsoring this article and providing tickets for the “Robin Hood” giveaway.

Robin Hood is a classic tale… very classic…as in 500 years ago classic. The tale of Robin Hood was first captured in writing during the late 15th or early 16th centuries–and people were probably telling stories about him and his associated cast of characters for about a century before that! Since then, Robin Hood, Maid Marian, Richard the Lionheart, and the Merry Men have made appearances in poems, songs, plays, movies, animated films, and children’s plays.

SCCT’s Robin Hood

The SCCT production of Robin Hood puts a modern twist on the time-honored tale. The characters will be familiar to those who know the story. There’s Robin Hood, his band of Merry Men, Maid Marian, and the Sheriff of Nottingham, who is Robin Hood’s foe. However, this version of Robin Hood may differ from what you remember of the 1973 Disney animated version or even more recent film versions starring the likes of Kevin Costner (1991) and Russell Crowe (2010).

Rather, this is a more contemporary take that kids will find relatable. In this version of Robin Hood, the story of the Prince of Thieves is nestled in the forests of Appalachia, rather than England’s Sherwood Forest. Characters speak with a little bit of a Southern twang and the story is set in the 20th century.

This production has a run time of about an hour and 15 minutes and is recommended for children in 3rd to 12th grades. The South Carolina Children’s Theatre doors open 30 minutes before each performance.

Tickets are $20 each and may be purchased by clicking on the desired show date and time below.
