[cancelled in 2019] Unicorns Exist at This Incredible Magic Show in Pigeon Forge

Planning a trip to Pigeon Forge? KAG Contributor Kristina Hernandez recently visited Pigeon Forge, Tennessee and came back with this review of Magic Beyond Belief. Read about this family friendly show that’s way more than a magic show. You’ll want to add it to your list of things to see on a trip to Pigeon Forge.

My kids love magic so when I was planning my trip to Pigeon Forge, TN, one show I really wanted to take them to see was Magic Beyond Belief with Darren Romeo. I love magic shows but I was completely unprepared for the dazzling and entertaining performance by the magician/singer/artist that we got.

Pigeon Forge Magic Show

**I was given complimentary tickets in exchange for this review by the city of Pigeon Forge but the review is my honest opinion.

Darren Romeo

Darren is the one and only protégé of Master Illusionists Siegfried & Roy and spent time training with them in Las Vegas before hosting his own show there. He also performed in the longest running Off Broadway show in New York City called The Fantasticks, which I saw myself as a teenager (I was totally racking my memories to remember if I had saw him perform!).

So Darren is not only an incredible magician but he’s also a stellar singer and performing artist. I had no idea this show would combine all of those aspects in a seamless way that not only had me awed the whole show but had both my squirmy kids, ages 7 and 4, enthralled.

About Magic Beyond Belief

There were all kinds of insane magic tricks and illusions that had me thinking of how he made them happen the whole three-hour ride home to Greenville. There is a white tiger, a unicorn, and a really cute duck in the show. He engages the audience with participation – I got to help him move a floating table while he gave one of my girls a bubble he turned into a bouncy ball, which now has the name of “bubble ball” in our house.

The show we saw was Christmas-themed since it was that time of year, complete with elves and candy canes but he artfully added in hit songs and trendy cultural icons like a part of the show that mirrors the movie The Greatest Showman, complete with a Bearded Lady.

Another part was from my favorite Broadway show, The Phantom of the Opera. I sat trying to hold back tears as the familiar sounds of the famous music from the show came on and Darren wore the mask that covered half his face. I whispered to my daughter that when she got older, I would take her to New York City to see that show, just like my own mother had done.

Our Review

Darren is funny and thoughtful about the performance, which creates an intimate experience between him and the audience. The show is up and down in tempo yet has a rhythm that seamlessly moves throughout the experience, engaging every audience member in a way that they will remember long after the curtain comes down.

I loved Magic Beyond Belief, as did my kids. Darren comes out into the lobby at the end of the show to meet and greet with guests and you can have your photo taken with him also. He performs at the Smoky Mountain Opry.
