Come Craft Away at Michaels

Posted on | No Comments

Do you have little crafters that love to paint, glue, sprinkle, squeeze, and make a general mess in the name of creativity? Or maybe you are just looking for an indoor activity to get a restless child out of the house when the weather isn’t conducive to outdoor getaways?  Well, look no further than the Michaels  KIDS CLUB® Saturday crafting events.  Designed for kids ages three and up, Michaels hosts a weekly craft that usually aligns with the season or upcoming holiday. For two bucks, all you have to do is show up- supplies are included. And, voila! You have a happily crafting kid and a mess-free house!

How to Get Started

To see the schedule and purchase online, go to the Michaels website and select classes and events.  A list of classes will pop up. Select the Kids Programs and follow the links to pull up the schedule and weekly crafts.  You can also sign up and pay online at this point.  If you don’t want to sign up online, you can call the store and add your name to the list.  You can pay upon arrival, but if it is a crowded event, you will probably want to pay earlier to secure your spot.

Quick Tips

The hours are posted from 10 am until 12 noon.  My five year old has never needed the entire time to complete the craft, so we usually show up a little after ten and expect to spend about 30 to 45 minutes working on the craft.  Budget more or less time depending on your child’s work speed.  According to the instructors, Christmas time is their peak demand, as many parents want their child to use the opportunity to make a craft for a loved one’s present.  It has not been crowded any of the times my daughter and I attended this January and February.

The crafts are usually seasonally aligned or holiday themed.  This approach lends an air of festivity and anticipation for the child looking forward to an upcoming holiday celebration or seasonal shift.  Past activities this winter included painting a glitter snowman on a miniature canvas, constructing a cocoa mug out of craft sticks, and decorating Valentine’s Day cookies.

Possibly the best part?

Because the KIDS CLUB crafts are fun and easy for the kids – don’t expect them to learn intricate crafting techniques here- you are free to leave them with the instructor and accomplish some in-store, kid-free shopping, which is never a bad way to spend a Saturday morning!

Summer = Camp Creativity!

Michael’s is hosting Camp Creativity June 11 – July 27 (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 10 am and 11 am) where kids will get to learn how to make various art projects. While you shop around, your kids can have a one-hour summer camp crafting session. The prices vary depending on your child’s age: kids 3+ pay $2.00 per one-hour session, and kids 6+ pay $5.00 per one-hour session.
