Find Opportunities for Self-care at the YMCA of Greenville

Posted on | No Comments

Self-care has had a bit of a resurgence lately. The idea of taking care of ourselves as well as we do those around us, is being used to justify pedicures, massages and even some extra dessert.

And while treating yourself is always welcome, it’s important to recognize that self-care is really about taking care of the basics – your mental, spiritual and physical health. Because our lives are busy and there are so many distractions, our health often takes a backseat. The wellness programs at the YMCA of Greenville are all about making it easier to create the habits that make your health a priority.

Thanks to the YMCA for sponsoring Kidding Around Greenville!

Group classes at the YMCA of Greenville are a form of self-care. Working out
with a group brings accountability to your workout and making health a priority in your life.

Group Classes

Sometimes to take care of ourselves, we just need a little help from our friends. The group classes at the YMCA of Greenville provide the support network you need to get motivated to work out, and the variety offered means there something for everyone. Need to stretch more often? There are yoga classes for every level. Need to build muscle? Body Pump or kettlebell classes will make you feel stronger and capable.

If you want something more personalized, the Y is offering small-group training classes. Gather a group of friends and train for a 5K or learn to lift weights together. It’s all about keeping each other accountable.

Nutrition Classes

Choosing healthy foods to fuel our body is as important to self-care as staying active, but it can be difficult to find the right options when you’re feeding several people and on the go. If you need guidance from the experts, the nutrition specialists at the Y can help. They hold monthly classes on topics such as eating healthy during the holidays and vegetarian cooking. At the Caine Halter Family YMCA, they offer youth and family nutrition counseling where you can work on household hurdles and set achievable goals. One-on-one sessions are also available or gather up your friends for a group class.

Child Care

As a parent, it’s easier to develop healthy habits if you have some child free time. As part of a household membership, the YMCA of Greenville provides Childwatch, set hours when childcare professionals will care for your kids while you work out. Check out branch Childwatch hours here before planning your next workout.

Self-care also means managing stress and what can be more stressful than trying to find child care when school’s out but work isn’t. The Y offers School’s Out Special (SOS) care during Greenville County School holidays. Click here for a list of holidays and to register.

Massage Therapy

After you’re done setting the foundation for good health, treat yourself. Licensed massage therapists are available at the Caine Halter Family YMCA to help relieve stress. After all, self-care also means allowing yourself time to relax and reset to tackle your busy schedule.
