At a press conference on April 6, 2020, Governor McMaster announced a Stay at Home or Work Order for South Carolina. The order goes into effect at 5 pm on Tuesday.

Under this order, South Carolina residents must remain at home with the following exceptions:
- Work
- Outdoor recreation for exercise
- Purchasing necessities or necessary services
- Visiting family
Violating this order is a criminal offense punishable by a $100 fine and/or up to 30 days in prison per day of offense.
