My Daughter’s Super Fun Birthday Party at Pigtails & Crewcuts

Posted on | No Comments

KAG team member Elizabeth shares her family’s birthday party experience at Pig Tails and Crew Cuts.  For more great birthday ideas, check out Kidding Around Greenville’s Ultimate Birthday Party Guide.

Thank you to Pigtails & Crewcuts for hosting my daughter’s birthday party in exchange for this review.  Even though the party was given in trade, all opinions are my own!

Okay so I think I got the title of this post wrong.  It should be “my daughter’s super fun and SUPER EASY birthday party at Pigtails & Crewcuts” but that seemed a little long.  And I really needed an easy party this year.  You see, when my daughter turned 7 she wanted a party at home.  What I expected to be a low-key party ended up being 14 little girls, a cheer theme party, complete with high school cheerleaders.

I scoured pintrest for birthday party ideas for weeks.  I spent the entire week prior to the party making pom poms out of streamers and cutting megaphones out of poster board for 14 little girls to decorate and scream into. (What was I thinking?!?)  I enlisted the services of a few high school cheerleaders and begged my friend to stay and help me manage the bash.

The girls made megaphones, learned cheers, danced, even had their faces painted. The party was fun; really fun.  I, however, was completely exhausted when it was finally over.  And my house was a wreck.  I had spent a ridiculous amount of time and way more money than I had intended.

So when my daughter’s 8th birthday rolled around I had one firm rule – the party was not going to be at home.  Nope.

Before the party

My daughter is a girly girl.  She loves playing dress up, dons lip gloss any chance she gets and adores getting her nails done, even if only on my bathroom floor.  So it seemed like a no-brainer to hold her party at a salon where she and her little buddies could be pampered and play dress up.  And my excitement was only heightened when, after chatting over the party plans with the salon owner, I realized all I had to do was bring cupcakes.  They would handle the rest. Sign me up!

So rather than spending weeks getting ready for the party I spent, ummm, maybe an hour picking up cupcakes for the party.  The helpful staff at Pigtails & Crewcuts took care of everything else.  It was exactly what I was hoping for!

Party time

We arrived a bit early so my daughter could get all dolled up before her guests arrived.  She had plenty to choose from – would she be a princess or a diva?  She even had the option of a pirate but she’s way too fancy for that!  She got her hair styled in a way her mom could never pull off and her nails painted exactly as she requested.  When her guests arrived she looked like the little diva I know her to be all too well!

After each and every little girl got dressed up, hair styled perfectly and nails manicured to her specifications they posed for a group picture.  I mean, what’s cuter than a group of little girls all dolled up for a night out?  Or, in this case, a night in!

The group picture needed a fancy frame to be proudly displayed by every guest so, of course, there was a fun craft involved.  Each guest was given a wood picture frame and more pretty decorating options than they could handle!  They got serious about picture frame decorating and every girl went home with a keepsake photo in the frame they created – perfect!

Last came singing, cupcakes, lots of hugs goodbye and, just like that, the party was over.  Or almost.  My daughter had one special party extra – her big night ended with getting her ears pierced!  Not part of the party package but saved us the trip to the mall we had scheduled for the next day, so a win-win if you ask me!  After that was done, we packed up and headed home.  It was the perfect party for my now 8 year old daughter & the completely stress-free party I was looking for.  No stress, no mess for me to clean up, and the girls all had a blast!

Pigtails & Crewcuts Is a Pro at Kids’ Haircuts, Ear Piercing, and even Birthday Parties!

Posted on | 19 Comments

Thank you to Pigtails & Crewcuts for sponsoring this giveaway.

Bringing your child for a haircut can be really fun if they not only enjoy it because of the atmosphere but if the hair stylist is fun and engaging. Pigtails & Crewcuts in Greenville is that place. The salons are adorable and have plenty of entertainment for kids and the staff is very kind, thoughtful, and accommodating for any child. Plus, the stylists at Pigtails & Crewcuts are all knowledgeable about lice and the salon has a multitude of products to prevent the dreaded infestation.

Fun Stuff– Haircuts, Birthday Parties, Nail Polish & Up-Dos

Pigtails & Crewcuts is first and foremost a place for kids to feel comfortable getting their hair cut or trimmed. The salon is super kid-friendly, with a train table, bright colors, televisions playing cute cartoons, and adorable seats that look like cars. The stylists are fun and engaging and help any child feel comfortable, whether it’s their first or fifth time getting their hair cut.

I went with my daughter for her second haircut ever. She has really long hair and the stylist, Aaron, was great about talking to her about what she doing and helping my daughter feel okay about doing something she hasn’t done often in the past.

A child’s (or dad’s!) haircut is $18.95. And if mom needs a haircut too, they do those for just $23.95.  They also do bang trims for $6.95. Shampoo and hair cleaning is an extra add-on service. The stylists can also do cool braids.

Pigtails & Crewcuts is a walk-in only salon but does offer a 15 minute call ahead service.

Birthday Parties

An easy and fun birthday party for kids is definitely right up the alley of Pigtails & Crewcuts. For girls, they host a diva party, a princess party or a spa party, complete with spa robes. For boys, they have an awesome pirate party or a superhero-themed bash. For up to 10 children, parties are $300. Additional guests are $15 per person, with a 15 child maximum.

Parents can bring in cakes or snacks for the kids and have fun instead of worrying about entertainment. Totally stress-free.

Read about local mom, Elizabeth, and her daughter’s super fun birthday party at Pigtails and Crewcuts!

Up-Dos

For those special occasions, Pigtails & Crewcuts offers up-dos for girls. This is perfect for homecoming or daddy daughter dates and dances. What little girl wouldn’t want to look amazing for her night out? Pigtails & Crewcuts can help. Up-dos start at $19.95. They can also do flat ironing or curls.

Nail Polish and Ear Piercing

For an extra treat, the salon will do the nails of a child for $6.95 during their visit. They also offer an array of nail polishes that parents can purchase for home spa day. And ear piercing is also offered (seriously, girls can get an entire makeover walking through those doors) for $40 in a safe and sterile environment.

Lice Prevention and Treatment

The four-letter word no parent wants to hear when their child is in school is lice. It’s fear-inducing. I’ve heard complete horror stories and get itchy at the mere mention of the word. Pigtails & Crewcuts has an entire line of products for lice prevention that include mint, rosemary, citronella and tea tree oil – all-natural oils that help keep lice away.

The stylists will also do a check for lice during a haircut just to be sure nothing is lurking on the scalp o f your child. For prevention, it’s key for parents to do a few things:

Avoid hair-to-hair/head-to-head contact during play and other activities.

Don’t share items like hats/caps, scarves, coats, hair accessories, etc.

Don’t share brushes, combs, or towels.

Avoid contact with items like beds, couches, carpets, pillows, and stuffed animals if they have recently been in contact with an infested person.

Vacuum the floors and furniture, especially where an infested person sat or lay.

Teach kids to avoid activities that spread head lice

Parents can also purchase a lice prevention spray, which the salon sells. As a parent, I’d buy almost anything to prevent lice in my home!

Overall, going to Pigtails & Crewcuts was a blast for my daughter and me. She loved it and had fun and I felt comfortable as a parent knowing she was in good hands.

Have a Blast With Your Kids at Pump It Up!

Posted on | 1 Comment

I recently attended the free “birthday” event at local bounce house Pump It Up celebrating their 15th anniversary in business. Truthfully we almost didn’t make it as daddy was under the weather so we were a bit late. I say this so you know we might have missed some things. However we loved it! We’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for future special events at our local Pump It Up bounce house! ~Lindy Wilson, KAG Contributor (ALSO BY LINDY: Dine & Play in GreenvilleMom Review: Poinsett Park, Baby Wearing Around Greenville, & Greenville Speaks: Best OB/GYN & Midwife Recommendations)

Our fun time at Pump It Up in Greenville

The Greenville Pump It Up location is a bit tucked away from the main road, so you’ll have to look for it.  However the parking lot felt secure as it was enclosed at the end and therefore had hardly any traffic. Little things like that always ease my mind when out with little ones still learning safety rules. We walked in, signed a waiver and were shown into the first activity room. There were lots of cubby holes for putting away our shoes. The floor had large foam blocks for toddlers to climb on as well as about a half dozen full size bounce structures. This included an obstacle course which was full of little tunnels and holes to jump through. There was also a free throw basketball game, great for older kids and athletically inclined adults. This was near more standard bounce houses. My one year old was a little overwhelmed but had fun just watching. My four year old didn’t know where to start! I liked how enclosed all the structures were (no possibility of accidentally tumbling out onto the floor) though this obscured the view a little.

Photo rights to Pump It Up

After trying out everything in the first area, we explored the next room. This one had a rock climbing wall, double sided obstacle course, large slides and a large basketball bounce house (about half court size with hoops on either end). My one year old, true to baby form, was most enthralled with one of the many balls bouncing around, which can be rented at the front desk. However I could hardly keep pace with my excited big girl! For whatever reason, this room was a bit more intriguing than the first. The large slide was a hit as was the obstacle course. She still needs to work on her wall climbing but otherwise she was elated. I could see this place being very fun for older kids and pre-teens. I would have been jumping as well if my kids were a little older and more independent.

Our bounce time was over though so it was time to go to the party room. Already bright and cheerful throughout the building, this room featured an inflatable throne for the birthday boy or girl. There was a viewing screen for pictures of our jump session, taken for free courtesy of the staff. We got free favor bags which included dental friendly lollipops (made with xylitol) and some toys including a wrist band, coloring books and crayons. Other than not being baby proof, the contents should appeal to all ages. We had sheet cake and they offered Kool Aid pouches or water. We left pretty happy but on top of that, we got a balloon too!

indoor fun Pump it Up

While younger toddlers might not enjoy this quite as much, any kid who has been walking more than a few months sure will! My baby still was giggling the whole time and trying to climb up all the giant cushions. We had lots of fun and hope to go back again soon. Be sure to wear socks for jumping. In addition to birthday parties, they have Open Jump times available, currently for just $7. This is an ideal venue for those cold and/or rainy days around Greenville.

Our Kindermusik Birthday Party at Piano Central Studio

Posted on | No Comments

Are you looking for an affordable option for a birthday party that’s NOT at your home? Our readers often tell us what a great deal the Kindermusik birthday parties are with our sponsor Piano Central Studios, especially when they run their party deals! This is an incredible deal on a party (trust me, we know!) The date has been extended to November 31, 2015 (just for you) and once you purchase you can book your party anytime until 5-30-16. ~Bethany Winston

Today we had my oldest’s fifth birthday party at Piano Central Studios. Coincidently several months ago before I even started writing for the KAG blog, I snagged the deal they were offering our readers. Someone has a birthday very close to Labor Day so planning ahead is crucial. This was a perfect opportunity and as we’ll be offering this deal again, I plan to reserve a spot for my youngest’s spring birthday. ~Lindy Wilson, KAG Contributor

BIRTHDAY DAY DEAL: Just for you Piano Central Studios has chosen to extend their $79 birthday party deal for one extra month (expires on November 30, 2015)! This is a great deal when the weather is unpredictable.

Kindermusik birthday party with Piano Central Studios 550

A little about the birthday party at Piano Central Studios

We arrived a few minutes early to set up a few decorations for our Frozen theme. (Yes those cupcakes are homemade- how could you tell? Can you also tell they were a rush job one hour before party time lol!?) This was simple as they had a table for us in the lobby. I could have added even more balloons had I known the five we had would be such a hit but it was fine. I had been arranging everything in a box for weeks now so it was very easy to put out. Food and decor went on top of the table and gifts underneath with back up supplies. (It confused people to put gifts under the table but proved extremely simple to sit down on the floor and open them.) We even had Frozen reusable tote bags to contain things like favors and juice boxes. The lobby was cozy but had enough space even with many chairs for everyone. (Parties are maxed out at 15 kids which we were almost at plus adults yet kids could play and adults could walk around without bumping into each other.)

birthday party at Piano Central Studios

As guests arrived we directed them to the classroom for open play time. This is standard at Kindermusik parties and helps add a time cushion for late comers. Then the class started. Parents were free to stay and participate or linger in the lobby. I was shocked because for once I could actually talk to my guests without trying to coordinate the next steps! I actually felt bad for not participating more! Yet my daughter just gallivanted around perfectly fine while my baby hung back a bit. Unlike previous playground parties, we didn’t have to keep as close an eye on the kids and the only boo boos were minor from when the kids specifically tried wrestling one another. There was rhythm playing, song singing, stories, lots of circle dancing, BUBBLES and even a parachute! It was a very active and all the kids thoroughly enjoyed running around. The party was geared toward her age group of preschoolers but even the toddlers seemed to have fun. Our party was inadvertently scheduled during my 1 year old’s nap time so she was a little fussy but even she came around. The kids older than my 5 year old all seemed to love it too!

The adults seemed to enjoy kicking back. Those with young toddlers had to help guide them but otherwise this was a very chill party for parents. Next time I think I’ll arrange to have a game or something for the parents without young babies so they’ll have something to do other than talk or check their phones. Everyone seemed happy with the seating and glad we were indoors with air conditioning in addition to teacher led activities for the kids. Our 18 month old needed us nearby but was fairly independent.

Kindermusik PCS birthday party

Our hour of Kindermusik fun ended with singing “Happy Birthday” to our special girl. She also got a present from the teacher- a Kindermusik favor bag with an egg shaker, kazoo and some candies. These bags are available as an add on to your party and available in three different varieties to suit all ages and prices. This makes an easy way to do favors. Whether you opt for favor bags or not, all guests and the birthday child get a card for a free Kindermusik class.

After an hour, we regrouped to the lobby for cupcakes. I had also arranged a character visit but scheduled it ten minutes out as a buffer but the party went so smoothly that was unnecessary and I actually stood around trying to figure out what to do for a little bit! You have the second hour for yourselves so plan accordingly! Luckily our half an hour visit from Elsa and Anna went great with their storytime and singing entertaining everyone. For our next Kindermusik party, I plan to have some games and/or crafts for the children as cupcakes and present opening went quick. Word to the wise, cupcakes are highly recommended for almost any party as they’re already portioned and don’t require silverware. I usually bake ours but think I’ll go for pre-ordered mini’s next time and maybe get a pack or two of gluten free and/or dairy free options.

Anna and Elsa visit at PCS birthday party

All in all our Kindermusik party at PCS was awesome! I’m already planning a second party there and the birthday girl is asking when she can go back so I’m also looking into a Kindermusik class. Both locations seem very convenient and close to the freeway. The Woodruff Road one is actually very easy to get to from Feaster/Verdin so you don’t even have to deal with Woodruff traffic!
