I have a scandalous confession: The water filter on my refrigerator’s water dispenser has been expired for 5 months.
Every 6 months, I should replace it with a $50 water filter. But I don’t. The “why” behind this is probably something for psychologists to tackle, but I know I am not alone. (A quick poll of my Facebook friends told me!) I could slap a reminder on my calendar to order the right filters and change them on time. Instead, I am thinking about adding to my home’s value and the quality of water we consume and use with a whole-house water filtration system. Yeah, it seems like a bit of a stretch, but it’s not entirely unreasonable!
What is a whole-house water filtration system?
A water filter removes suspended solids, contaminants, pathogens, bad taste, and odors from water. While water cleanliness may fulfill governmental standards, it always includes contaminants, which might influence how water tastes or even feels. (Think about “hard” versus “soft” water.) In some cases, contaminants can cause problems for your home’s plumbing and appliances. Water filters, like the Halo 5, work to remove this bad stuff and can also add in good minerals. They can do this by physical and/or chemical means. For example, the Halo 5 gets its “5” from 5 stages of filtration and conditioning.
While many of us may have a water pitcher with a filter, a filter attached to our sinks, or a filter in our refrigerator’s water dispenser, a whole-house water filtration system treats the water before it even enters your house. The water you use in showers, in the dishwasher, washing machine, and your cooking will all get treated before use.
And that pesky water filter that needs to be replaced every 6 months? Say goodbye to it! Many water filters, including the Halo 5, do not require any service for 10 years!
Why is a whole-house water filtration system important?
The perks of a whole-house filtration system are numerous. The benefits of clean water will be extended to the water you use for cooking, washing clothes, cleaning, and also prolong the life of certain equipment in your home. There will be a reduction in the build-up in your home’s plumbing and appliances. Showers will even feel different! There will be less build-up and grime in your shower. Water will feel smoother on the skin and even hair feels softer.
Is a whole-house water filter right for your home?
This meaningful upgrade to your home will cost anywhere from $1,000 to $5,000. While this may seem like a steep investment, with American households using an average of 200 gallons of water a day, the quality of water we use and consume matters.
If you’re thinking about a whole-house water filtration system, an experienced Preferred Home Services Master Plumber will help you select the right filter for your home and for your family’s needs, as well as help you find the right location for the filter. They will even do a water quality test during the set-up and installation! And if you’re thinking about a Halo water filter, your Preferred Master Plumber will have you do the “Halo taste challenge,” which allows you to taste the difference a Halo brand water filter can make.
