HipBurger Has Some Of The Best Drive-Thru Burgers Near Greenville, SC

Posted on |

Have you tried a burger at HipBurger? This Greenville, SC burger joint had humble beginnings as a food truck. Recently the popularity of the “HipTruck” supported the addition of a brick-and-mortar location in Mauldin, SC to the brand.

Greenville residents have made comparisons to Shake Shack and In-N-Out Burger: popular west coast fast-casual burger spots that have cult-like followings. The comparison is warranted. With the convenience of the drive-through at HipBurger, not only do people not have to drive to Charlotte or Atlanta for that burger craving – they don’t even have to get out of their car.

Papi’s Tacos: Some Of The Upstate’s Best Tacos Can Be Found Along The Reedy River in Greenville, SC

Posted on |

Are you looking for delicious tacos in downtown Greenville, with an incredible view, that won’t break the bank? Papi’s Tacos is right on the Reedy River, and the view can’t be beaten. Kidding Around’s resident Taco aficionado is getting the story behind this family restaurant that serves up some of Greenville’s best tacos.

The story of how Papi’s Tacos came to be has been told a million times. No one mentions this tiny taco shop without regaling the audience with the story of how a dishwasher wooed a restaurateur with the food of his homeland.

This is going to be the prequel to that story. The story of how Jorge Barrales Sr. wanted a better life for his family and of how an immigrant to this country used the recipes passed down from his mother to find success in a South Carolina town.

Born in a city just a little over an hour from Mexico City, Jorge Barrales Sr. wanted to raise his family in the United States. He came alone at first, living and working in California while his family stayed behind in Mexico. He ultimately wanted to join family already residing in Greenville, and he returned home to Mexico to work on making that a reality.

Again, Jorge Sr. found himself in a new place, alone and without his wife and children. The tacos people enjoy at either of the two Papi’s taco locations are a product of the pride and work ethic that the Barrales family put into everything they do. It’s not just a labor of love, it’s a family affair, with Jorge Sr. working alongside his wife and son.

Enjoy Delicious Thai Cuisine at Sweet Basil Thai in Greenville, SC

Posted on | No Comments

Have you tried Sweet Basil Thai in Greenville, SC?

The Saiyud family moved from Pattaya Beach, Thailand, and landed in Greenville a few years later in 1997. They opened Sweet Basil Thai in 2005, and a few years later I met the matriarch of the family and fell in love with one of Greenville’s most popular Thai restaurants.

Carrying on his parent’s tradition of treating customers like family, Chin Saiyud is now running the restaurant while his parents enjoy retired life back in Thailand. If you’ve ever dined at Sweet Basil, then you know, this isn’t just a business for the family, it’s a passion. That is reflected in every dish that leaves the kitchen.

Aside from opening one of the Upstate’s most popular Thai restaurants, you might be surprised to know that another popular Thai restaurant in Greenville was opened with help from the Saiyud family.

This is my favorite Thai restaurant of anywhere I have ate. My go-to is the Massaman and I love the Tom Ka (spelling?) soup. Everything is delicious and tastes so homemade and fancy if that makes sense. We went last week and felt very safe in regards to covid.

Have A Seat Under The Stars And Enjoy A Delicious Meal At Dray: Bar + Grill in Spartanburg, SC

Posted on | No Comments

Have you heard about Dray: Bar + Grill in Spartanburg? Bob Munnich has created a wonderful spot for lovers of chef inspired food to come and dine. Dray: Bar + Grill is where other restaurant owners go to eat, when they get out of their own kitchens. That speaks volumes!

Creative events, markets & movie nights are an added benefit to compliment the experience, when gimmicks aren’t necessary because the food is good enough to stand on it’s own.

This is going to sound odd as a compliment, but Bob Munnich is the only human alive who can get me to eat cauliflower. Not just eat it, enjoy it. You might not realize what an accomplishment that is but trust me – you should be impressed. You should also try the buffalo cauliflower bites when you visit!

If delicious food isn’t enough to draw you to this favorite of Spartanburg residents, the talent behind the bar isn’t lacking either. Bar manager and mixologist extraordinaire Mike Grantham left the bright lights and big city of Downtown Greenville to come and share his talents with the guests at Dray: Bar + Grill.

If you are looking for a place to spend a rare night away from the kids, this is the place. Check the Dray: Bar + Grill Facebook for upcoming events, like movie nights, where the menu is created to go along with the theme of the movie. It will make for a unique date night experience, with very little work on your part!
