Help your child build confidence, responsibility, and real-life skills with our American Red Cross Babysitter’s Training course. Designed for youth ages 11 to 16, this engaging, hands-on class prepares future babysitters to safely care for infants and young children while developing leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Whether your child wants to start a babysitting business, earn extra spending money, or simply become more responsible when caring for younger siblings or family members, this nationally recognized training provides valuable knowledge they can use for years to come.
At Safety Squad CPR®, we believe that great babysitters are prepared before an emergency happens. Our experienced Red Cross instructors create a fun, interactive learning environment where students actively participate through discussions, role-playing, demonstrations, and hands-on practice.
What Students Will Learn
Throughout the course, participants gain practical skills that help them become trusted, dependable babysitters. Topics include:
- Leadership and decision-making skills
- How to safely care for infants and young children
- Age-appropriate activities and play ideas
- Infant and child diapering techniques
- Bottle feeding and basic child care routines
- Professional communication with parents
- Interview and résumé tips for finding babysitting jobs
- Understanding babysitting responsibilities and expectations
- Recognizing safety hazards inside and outside the home
- Preventing injuries before they happen
- Handling difficult behaviors and problem-solving common babysitting situations
Students also learn how to recognize and respond to emergencies with confidence. Emergency response topics include:
- Recognizing life-threatening emergencies
- Basic first aid
- Controlling bleeding by applying direct pressure
- Responding to conscious choking
- Rescue breathing concepts
- Calling 911 and communicating with emergency responders
- Developing emergency action plans
Optional CPR Certification
Families who want an extra level of preparedness can choose to add Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED training. This optional certification teaches lifesaving skills that every babysitter should know and is an excellent addition for teens who want to stand out when applying for babysitting opportunities.
