Chocolate Artworks: The Local Chocolate Shop People Can’t Stop Talking About
Located off Miller Road near Downtown Mauldin, this locally owned chocolate shop has quickly become one of those places people start telling their friends about once they find it. I first heard of Chocolate Artworks a couple of years back when everyone was searching for Dubai Chocolate, and kept seeing their name show up under forums and Reddit posts as one of the best in the Upstate!
Meet the Owner: Peggy
From the outside, it’s unassuming, but once you walk into Chocolate Artworks, you’re greeted with a space that feels warm and welcoming. And it’s clearly built around someone who really loves what they do. Peggy, owner of the shop, has an air of ease to her, friendly, down-to-earth, and clearly passionate about what she does.
Before opening the shop, Peggy worked as an early childhood educator, with chocolate as her side hustle and passion project. Now, she has integrated her love of working with children into her work at Chocolate Artworks, hosting monthly workshops for kids to experience what it’s like to be a chocolatier, plus summer camps, and a monthly chocolate-themed story time (more on workshops below!).
Signature Chocolates and Some of Our Favorites
We went in expecting to pick up a few different chocolates to try, and ended up walking out with a box of Dubai chocolate-filled Oreos, Biscoff-filled Oreos, and my personal favorite, sea salt caramels! The chocolate menu is stacked! Everything we tasted was rich, smooth, and not overwhelmingly sweet (which I appreciate!) My husband loved the Dubai chocolate-filled Oreos, which had a great ratio of the pistachio cream to the kataifi. It was rich, but so delicious. I really liked the Biscoff one, which I probably could have easily eaten several of if I had bought more.
Some of the other menu items include seasonal truffles, chocolate bark, and rotating specialty bars. Peggy says that the chocolate-covered bananas are some of the most popular items. So, if you’re a banana lover, this might be the place to try out.
The attention to detail that Peggy puts into the designs of her chocolates was evident. And the packaging makes for an excellent gift idea! It feels thoughtful.
Kids Chocolatier Club- Monthly Workshop in Mauldin
If you’re always looking for something a little different to do with kids in the Greenville area, the workshop at Chocolate Artworks is a fun idea! The Kids Chocolatier Club is currently held once per month at the shop, and each class is themed, such as bird nests (with a nest-building info session to pair with the chocolate creating) and Mother’s Day flower bouquets.
You can expect to spend around 20 minutes in the workshop, and kids can take home or eat their creations afterwards. These workshops are hands-on, creative, and give kids a chance to learn and play at the same time.
Other workshops include:
- Chocolate Artworks Story Time– Once per month, 45-minute storytime (usually about chocolate and how it’s made, where it comes from, and a tasting time)
- Kids Summer Camp– 2-hour-long summer camps for kids ages 5 – 12, with sessions throughout June and July. Classes are $26 per child and are two hours long. Kids will explore chocolate making!
And honestly, that’s what Chocolate Artworks feels like overall. It’s not just a place to grab dessert. It’s a small business that feels connected to its community, run by someone who genuinely enjoys what she’s building. There’s a lot of heart in it! You can sign your kids up for the Chocolate Artworks Kids Chocolatier Workshop before each month’s session. The workshop is $10 per person, and there are 4 time slots available during the Saturday morning session.
