About Brooksong Log Cabin

Brooksong Log Cabin is a secluded mountain retreat tucked away in the forests of Western North Carolina, about 30 minutes from downtown Brevard. The cabin sits on six private acres with four streams running through the property and two private waterfalls that are accessible only to guests. It’s the kind of place that encourages you to slow down, play board games with your family, read a book by the creek, or just sit on the deck and listen to the waterfall.

The cabin sleeps up to six guests with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a pull-out queen sleeper sofa in the huge great room. It’s pet-friendly too (a $150 pet fee applies), which is always a plus for those with pups. The owners have clearly put a lot of thought into making this place feel like a home away from home, not just a rental.

The Private Waterfalls

The private waterfalls are unbeatable. When do you get to enjoy a waterfall all to yourself on private property? And this isn’t a small one at all. It’s beautiful! The two waterfalls, Bearpen Falls and Cascade Falls, are accessible via established and marked trails that wind through the property. Bearpen Falls is the closest one to the house and you can’t miss the trail. It’s behind the driveway. The trail to Cascade Falls starts near the end of the driveway over the bridge. It is marked by a white squirrel on trees. Don’t follow any other trail markers.

The owners have set up a viewing platform with benches at Bearpen Falls so you can relax and enjoy them as long as you want.

There’s also a swing in the woods where you can sit and take in the forest and see one of the waterfalls. Bearpen Falls is close enough to the cabin that you can literally hear it from the wraparound deck, which honestly makes for the most relaxing background sound.

Inside the Cabin

The kitchen is awesome and so well-stocked. It was easy to make dinner after a long day of adventures. You’ll find cutlery, knives, pots, pans, coffee makers, and even starter supplies like paper goods, soap, dishwasher pods, and laundry pods. That level of detail makes a huge difference when you’re packing for a mountain trip.

The cabin has a spacious great room with a wood-burning fireplace, leather seating, and vaulted ceilings with large windows. There’s a smart TV if you want a movie night, plus a game room upstairs. One bathroom has a shower and the other has a bathtub. The whole cabin has wifi (Starlink, so it actually works out here), but the entire atmosphere encourages you to play games with your family and friends, read, or just relax. I loved that part.

The Location and Things to Do Nearby

Even though the cabin feels completely secluded, it’s actually well-positioned for day trips and adventures. The log cabin is about a half hour from Brevard, where you can easily spend a day chasing waterfalls, hiking, shopping in the charming downtown, or hanging out at breweries.

We went kayaking and tubing with Headwaters Outfitters when we stayed at the cabin, and it was only a short 20-minute drive away. If you haven’t been, it’s an incredible day on the French Broad River.

Cashiers, NC is also really close. You can hike to Rainbow Falls at Gorges State Park or to any of the hundreds of other waterfalls nearby. Pisgah National Forest is about 27 minutes away with trails and famous waterfalls like Looking Glass Falls and Sliding Rock. Dupont State Recreational Forest, home to Triple Falls and High Falls, is about 35 minutes from the cabin.

Honest Mom Review

I absolutely loved this place. The private waterfalls are the star of the show, but what really made the stay special was the overall atmosphere. The quiet and calm feeling is something you don’t get at a hotel or even most vacation rentals. You’re truly in the woods, surrounded by nature, with nothing but the sound of waterfalls and streams.

The owner reached out to make sure we were all good and gave detailed instructions for everything. That personal touch really stood out. There’s a fire pit by the creek to make s’mores if you’re good at making fires, which I am not. I was questioning my survival skills out here.

The location is perfect if you want to combine a relaxing cabin stay with adventure days. I don’t like sitting still anywhere and a beach vacation is not something I really enjoy. On the other hand, staying at a place like Brooksong where you are surrounded by nature and where hiking and kayaking and tubing are just a short drive away, that’s my ideal trip.

Tips for Your Stay

  • The road to get here is gravel and is steep in some spots. AWD is recommended.
  • There is not a grocery store nearby, so be sure to get everything you need in terms of food before you come. And don’t be like us and forget your homemade cinnamon rolls at home.
  • Bring bug spray. You are in the woods and bugs are present, so be prepared.
  • Pack layers. Mountain evenings can get cool even in summer, and it feels cooler in the forest than in town.
  • Stock up on groceries in Brevard on your way in. There are several grocery stores and restaurants right in town.
