The YMCA of Greenville’s Afterschool Program is built for kids in K5 through 8th grade and runs Monday through Friday from 2:15 – 6:00 pm. Afterschool at the YMCA of Greenville is more than just a safe place to wait for pickup, it’s a place where kids genuinely learn, grow, and thrive.

A Program Built Around the Whole Child
The YMCA of Greenville believes in nurturing a healthy spirit, mind, and body, and that mission shapes everything about the afterschool experience. Here’s what your child can expect each day:
Daily Homework Support
The Y sets aside 30-45 minutes of dedicated, quiet homework time every afternoon. Staff and volunteers are on hand to answer questions and offer guidance, so kids arrive home with assignments already underway. Brain breaks are woven throughout the day, too, giving kids a chance to recharge and socialize before diving back in.
Daily Active Play
Before hitting the books, kids get moving! At least 30 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity, like group games, sports, and fitness challenges, helps burn off that post-school energy. A healthy snack is provided every day to keep them fueled and focused.
Weekly Enrichment Activities
Once a week, the kids enjoy a 45-minute academic enrichment session designed to broaden their horizons beyond the classroom. Topics rotate through nutrition and wellness, 21st Century skills, college and career exploration, leadership development, service learning, arts and crafts, and global learning.
Values-Based Programming
What truly sets the Y apart is its commitment to character. The Y’s core values – Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility- are woven into small group discussions, daily interactions, and the example set by every staff member. The Y is intentional about helping kids become not just better students, but better people.
Confidence, Community & the Leaders of Tomorrow
At the YMCA of Greenville, children explore their interests, build confidence, and discover who they are, all in a safe, supportive environment. For busy working parents, that peace of mind is priceless, and you have the reassurance that your child is in great hands until you arrive.
