They Couldn’t Afford a $100 LEGO Set. Now They’re Opening One of the Coolest Kids’ Stores in Greer.

When Josh and Brooke were younger parents, their daughter had her eye on a LEGO set that cost $100. That might as well have been $1,000 at the time.

So they got resourceful. They started buying used LEGO sets locally and online, rebuilding and repackaging them to resell for a small profit, just enough to cover that Christmas gift and the rest of their holiday shopping. It worked. And then they kind of never stopped.

Years later, Josh was in a serious motorcycle accident. His injuries were severe enough that doctors were worried he might lose his leg. He went from being active and on-the-go to completely immobilized, with a long recovery stretching out in front of him.

Someone pulled the old LEGO sets down from the attic.

He started building. Then rebuilt everything they had. Then started sourcing used sets again, restoring them, piecing them back together, selling them so he could buy more. What started as something to do became something to look forward to. And eventually, something worth building a business around.

Josh has fully healed. And instead of going back to nursing, he and Brooke decided to see how far this thing could go.

The answer is: pretty far.

What’s Actually Inside Bricks & Minifigs

I walked in expecting bins of bricks and a few build stations. What I wasn’t prepared for was how much there was to actually buy. The sheer variety of products stopped me in my tracks.

Here’s a look at what you’ll find:

Rare and discontinued sets If you grew up building LEGO castles in the ’80s or spent the ’90s hoarding space sets, you’ll find things here that’ll stop you mid-aisle. Sets from those decades, rare minifigs you can’t find at Target or the LEGO store at the mall, and some genuinely hard-to-find pieces, including a Stranger Things set coming in for opening weekend.

Used, rebuilt, and verified sets Every used set has been checked for missing pieces. Some vintage sets come pre-built and sold as-is. They’re careful about this. It matters to them that you’re not getting home and finding out something’s incomplete.

Build-your-own minifig station This is where kids (and, let’s be real, adults) can spend a while. Because they source discontinued parts, the selection goes well beyond what you’d find building a minifig anywhere else. Brooke mentioned that medical students have come in and built some hilariously specific custom figures. I believe it.

Bulk brick bins Dig through bins to find a missing piece, stumble across something unusual, or just let your kid go exploring. There’s something in here for builders of every age.

Custom local builds and one-of-a-kind displays The store has its own personality. You’ll spot custom builds around the space, including local references and display pieces that give it a lived-in, creative feel rather than a franchised-showroom vibe.

LEGO-themed earrings and small creator items They carry items from smaller makers, including LEGO earrings that are genuinely cute. Good gift fodder.

The Allowance Shelves

This was one of my favorite part of the store, and I think it says everything about who Josh and Brooke are.

Along one wall, there are shelves of pre-built items organized roughly by price, in the $5, $10, and $15 range, so kids can come in with their own money and actually find something they can afford.

When Brooke showed me around, she picked up a small box of LEGO dogs and said that her own kids used to fight over a specific one, a particular dog figure that caused genuine sibling drama. “If a store like this had existed,” she said, “we could have just solved that.” She laughed, but she meant it.

They built these shelves because they remember what it felt like not to have much. The goal is that every kid who walks in, regardless of what’s in their pocket, gets to walk out with something they picked themselves.

That kind of intentionality is hard to manufacture. This store has it.

More Than a Store: Party Room

Bricks & Minifigs also has a party room for LEGO-themed birthday parties and a racing track where kids can race their builds. It’s the kind of place you can actually spend time in, not just pass through.

If you’ve got LEGO fans at home, or you were one yourself, it’s worth a visit. Grand opening is the 28th.
