During select school holidays, The Children’s Museum of the Upstate offers Kid’s Day Out, a drop-off day camp with a completely play-based experience. Space is extremely limited and no refunds are issued, so families should register in advance.

Enjoy some wonderful picture books read aloud to the crowd by our very own booksellers, and children will even get a sweet treat to go. If you catch them on a rainy day or cold day, storytime is held inside in the children’s section toward the back of the store. Museum & Gallery invites homeschool families to Homeschool Days, part of its K-12 Arts Encounter programming, celebrating M&G’s 75th anniversary with a journey through art history. This Elementary School Lesson (K5-5th grade) explores Late Renaissance (Venice, 1590s): Sacred Conversations as students learn to “read” masterworks and discover characters, symbols, and painting techniques. Sessions meet at 9:30am and 2pm. Parent attendance is optional.

Begin your visit in the Environmental Science and Sustainability Building, where you’ll find The Water Story and Sustainable Future exhibits as well as the highly popular Nature Exchange
Explore Harrison Hall of Natural Science, where you’ll discover a wide variety of plants, animals, and invertebrates in the Indoor Rain Forest and Rainforest Classroom, have the chance to pet stingrays, sea stars, and horseshoe crabs in the Marine Lab, and learn about South Carolina’s major ecosystems in the Ecology Lab
- Step back in time on the Living History Farm and discover what it was like to live in the Backcountry of 19th-century South Carolina.
- Have a larger-than-life adventure as you search for young and adult dinosaurs on our ever-popular Dinosaur Adventure Trail
- Tap into the power of imagination through creative play at the Pirate Adventure and Dinosaur Playgrounds
- Immerse yourself in the beauty of nature as you stroll through the Butterfly Garden

This educational tour teaches kids all about llamas and alpacas! Children get to walk the animals through an obstacle course, take pictures, ride a tractor through the apple orchard, and learn about the many uses of camelids. Parents are free to attend.
Elementary-age students can explore Conestee Nature Preserve as young naturalists in this twice-monthly, drop-off after-school program! Through nature hikes, hands-on investigation, and playful discovery, kids will dig into a new nature topic each session. Join for one session or come throughout the semester to build on each adventure.
Time: 3–4:30 pm, 1st & 3rd Thursdays

Cost: $10 per session or $50 for all 6 sessions.
Location: Meeting locations vary throughout Conestee Nature Preserve. Registered participants will receive location details by email before each session.
Registration Deadline: Midnight on the Tuesday before class. If a class is full or you miss the deadline, contact the Preserve to ask about availability or a waitlist.
Bring: A water bottle and weather-appropriate clothing. Apply sunscreen and bug spray before class as needed. Sessions are entirely outdoors.

Drop the kids off for a fun evening of their own at South Carolina Children’s Theatre! Kid’s Night Out starts with drama activities, then crafts, a milk-and-cookies snack and a movie. Pajamas encouraged, and bring a favorite blanket and pillow. This night’s theme: Hogwarts!.
Grab lawn chairs and blankets for First Fridays: Movies in the Park at Trailblazer Park! This month’s showing is Fantastic Mr. Fox, starting at dusk. Come early to explore downtown Travelers Rest and grab a bite before the movie begins.
Roper Mountain Science Center presents a Laser Show set to the music of Laser Pink Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon in the Giant Dome Theater and Hooper Planetarium. Back by popular demand, favorite artists and bands come alive through laser light in the planetarium. For safety reasons, no late entries will be permitted.

Saturday, November 7
Families walk together to simulate the daily trek millions of women and children make to collect water, raising funds to bring safe water to 1,500 people in need. It’s a meaningful, hands-on way to introduce kids to global water issues, with a dedicated kids’ page for young walkers and options to join a team, volunteer, or start a church group.

Home Depot Kids Workshops happen on the first Saturday of every month from 9 AM–12 PM, offering free, hands-on building projects for kids with all supplies included (kit, tools, paint, apron, and instructions).
