We loaded up the crew and headed to GE Vernova Park at BridgeWay Station on August 29 for Greenville Triumph’s Star Wars Night, and I’m still thinking about it. Part of that is because I love soccer. The bigger part is that it turned out to be a wonderful family fun night, and one of the easiest we’ve had all summer.

Here’s the honest recap.

It starts before the game does

If you only show up for kickoff, you’re missing half the night. The Fan Fest opened at 4:30 in the BridgeWay Station plaza, and it was fully kid-mode. Families everywhere were wearing soccer gear from their local leagues and teams, and plenty were repping their favorite Triumph or Liberty players. Lightsabers and Star Wars gear were all over the place.

Our move: grab dinner at BridgeWay Station, then walk around before you head into the stands to see what goodies you can pick up before the game. It’s all walkable, so the kids burn off energy and you’re not scrambling from a parking lot.

The goals, the lightsabers, and the wave that never happened

I wasn’t sure how long a soccer match would hold my kids’ attention. The Triumph took care of that. They beat FC Naples 4–0, and after every goal the crowd got louder and the lightsabers went up.

Devin Boyce scored first in the 24th minute, then Muba Nour added two in the second half, and Azaad Liadi finished it off in the 88th minute. Four goals means four separate reasons for the whole stadium to jump up and yell.

A few folks tried to get the wave started more than once. My kids never caught it. What they did catch were the lightsaber fights that broke out in the stands and in the safe areas around the field, which is where the antsy little kiddos ended up anyway.

Parent logistics

  • Concessions: Stations are on both sides of the stadium, and the big concession stand is across from section 125.
  • Costumes: Not every game is a theme night, so if there’s no costume on the calendar, dress comfortably and gear up for fun. Team colors always work.
  • Get there for Fan Fest. It’s outside, it’s free to walk around, and it’s where the pregame magic happens.
  • Stay through the end. The second half was where the energy really peaked.

Tickets and the Family Pack

Single-game tickets start at $20, which makes this one of the more affordable live sports nights in the Upstate.

There’s also a Family Pack that covers four home matches at GE Vernova Park, starting at $64.18. Three of those dates have already passed, so the one still on the board is September 26 vs. Union Omaha at 7 PM.   • Fan Fest at BridgeWay Station, 4:30–6:30 PM: DJ battle, dance contests with prizes, Brazilian-style soccer tricks kids can try, and a comedian
  • Gates at 6, kickoff at 7, with folkloric dances, halftime contests, and a t-shirt toss
  • Fireworks after the match
