Want to learn to skateboard? Head for Greer, SC!

There’s a skateboard program in Greer, SC that is sure to interest anyone who loves skateboarding in the Upstate!

Skateboarding has looked pretty fun to me but since I’ve never had any lessons and don’t want to crack my mom body on purpose, I haven’t ever taken up the sport. But my kids – that’s another story. I have one very athletic little girl who found a skateboard recently and has been practicing. It’s really cute. But she needs lessons and the City of Greer Parks and Recreation Department’s Beginner Skateboarding program may be just the answer.

Beginner Skateboarding

Greer has no shortage of family-friendly parks and programs but the Beginner Skateboarding program is brand new and already has had so much interest that they doubled the number of classes they are having. Classes are available on Mondays and Thursdays April 3 – May 8 or April 6 – May 11 and are grouped by ability. They are an hour long and either from 6-7 pm or 7-8 pm.

Lessons are taught by Coach David Rosenfeld, a Certified Skateboard Instructor with over 40 years of experience. Impressive. He’s also a cool dad with three kids who lives in Greer. He’s been teaching skateboarding for the past several years.

Learning to skateboard

Kids will learn the basics of skateboarding like how to push, glide, carve, kickturn, and other balance skills. The class is taught in a safe environment that also incorporates the values of determination, creativity, confidence, and hard work. There are few things that will instill determination than falling off a rolling board and trying over and over till you get it!

Classes are for kids ages 5 to 14 years old and they will get a lot of personal instruction from Coach Rosenfield. Plus, by the time summer rolls around, they will have a new skill they can hone outdoors.
