Basecamp Getaway on Lake Hartwell

There are so many things to love about the Quittin’ Time Cottage lake house – the size, location, amenities, comfort, and, of course, getting to walk out the back and go right down to the lake. I think my favorite thing, though, was the kids’ room downstairs with a game room and the outdoor movie screen. But really, everything was awesome, so don’t make me choose.

I stayed here on a girls’ getaway with my daughters and friends, and WOW, I wish we could have stayed a week. I’ll tell you all about the cool things we did, the meals we cooked, and why driving only an hour away felt like a true escape.

Quittin’ Time Lake House: The Location

You cannot get a better location for a getaway than on a lake. I absolutely love staying on the water, and the Quittin’ Time Cottage offers up all the best things about a lake stay: water views, a covered dock, lots of outdoor space, and a totally private house and neighborhood.

The house is just a few minutes off I-85 over the South Carolina-Georgia border and super easy to get to. There is plenty of parking, so several families can definitely stay here together, and I loved walking around the quiet neighborhood in the morning.

The dock is on a tributary off Lake Hartwell and very close to Lake Tugaloo State Park. It’s quiet and very peaceful and calm.

Quittin’ Time Lake House: The Cottage

With four bedrooms, three-and-a-half bathrooms, and space to sleep 14, this layout is a dream for multi-generational families or multi-family vacations.

Our group had three adults and four teens. All the adults had their own rooms upstairs while the teens took the bunk bed bedroom on the lower level. Each of the bedrooms upstairs had its own Keurig as well, which is honestly brilliant. I appreciated this thoughtful touch.

The Ultimate Kid & Teen Bunk Room

The lower level of the house is entirely dedicated to entertainment. The teens took over the massive downstairs bunk room, which feels completely separate from the rest of the house.

This lower level is packed with amenities, including:

  • A game room with a TV
  • A commercial slushie machine (a massive hit!)
  • A pool table, golf arcade game, and indoor basketball game

It worked perfectly because the adults could enjoy quiet morning coffee and chats upstairs while the teenagers slept in and enjoyed their own dedicated entertainment zone.

Quittin’ Time Lake House: Kitchen, Cooking, and Fun

The kitchen is spacious with an oven, sink, fridge, and no less than three different ways to make coffee. Again, brilliant. There’s a living space with a huge TV and a big dining table. Also on the main level is a screened-in deck, which has couches, a dining table, and a huge propane grill. All of which we absolutely loved.

We used that grill for dinner both nights, including making pizza on it, which turned out delicious. The screened-in porch was our favorite spot for morning coffee. The property also has plenty of fresh towels an in-unit washer and dryer to dry swimsuits quickly. The owners truly thought of everything.

Favorite Things

I love to cook; cooking is my love language, which means that this house was literally meant for me to cook for my friends. It was so fun to use the outdoor grill, and because I’m a mosquito magnet, the fact that the deck where the grill is located was screened-in only made it even more enjoyable.

The house has everything you need when it comes to dishes, glassware, silverware, pans, pots, and even a pizza stone. It was a lot to make use of the beautiful kitchen and grill. I always try to cook whenever I go on vacation because, honestly, it saves a ton of money, and I like cooking. This place made it easy to love it even more.

Things to Do at Quittin’ Time

The lower outdoor deck is an entertainment hub of its own. It features:

  • A built-in rope hammock net for lounging
  • A luxury hot tub
  • An outdoor movie screen with a projector
  • A space for outdoor bowling

Our group had an absolute blast watching a movie outside while chilling in the hot tub under the stars. It was a unique, 10-star experience that none of us had ever tried before.

Inside you can play a game of pool, make slushies, play the indoor baasketball game or golf arcade, play video games, play card or board games, and watch movies. We were there for two nights and didn’t even get to do everything.

Quittin’ Time Lake House: Amenities at the Lake

  • 2 Kayaks
  • Lake mat
  • Paddle board
  • Life jackets
  • Deep water dock with swings
  • Fishing light

One of the best things about this Basecamp Getaways property is that you don’t need to leave it to have fun once you get there. I’m one of those people who love to have all the adventures on a vacation. I don’t like sitting still (unless it’s for coffee). With this house, you can truly do everything or nothing, which is great for groups and families because everyone will be happy.

The house has two kayaks, a stand-up paddleboard, and a huge lake mat at the dock. They have life jackets that you are required to wear down there as well. You can paddle around, swim, or even fish if you’d like. They even have a green light thing below the dock that attracts fish if you want to do night fishing.

Tip for Your Stay: The path from the house down to the dock is paved but quite steep. Be sure to pack a cooler and grab all your swim gear before heading down so you don’t have to trek back up the hill!

Honest Mom Review: Quittin’ Time Cottage on Lake Hartwell

The Quittin’ Time Cottage was honestly a great experience for all of us. My daughters and their friends had such a great time together and loved having their own space to relax and hang out. We adults also loved having our own space to catch up and relax.

We all had a blast kayaking and paddleboarding, and the kids loved the lake mat. The dock was one of my favorite spots to have a glass of wine and watch the kids laughing and playing. The whole house was built and decorated around making your stay as relaxing and enjoyable as possible. Every detail was thought through, and I was sad to leave.

The other excellent part about the house is that it’s so close to Greenville, yet felt a world away. For families with smaller kids, especially, longer drives can be a hassle. This place made it super easy to have an amazing getaway so close to home.
