What you’ll learn: We spent an October girls trip at Westgate Myrtle Beach Oceanfront Resort, about four hours from Greenville, SC. Here is what the pools, rooms, food, and location are like for families and adults, plus the resort fee, parking, and details to know before you book.
We headed to the coast in October with a lot of rain in the forecast, and we still ended up floating the lazy river, soaking in the hot tub, and walking the beach. Myrtle Beach in the off season is a different place. The beach and the lazy river weren’t crowded, and the pools stayed comfortable because they are heated.

Pools and Beach: The Real Reason to Stay Here
The water is the star. Westgate Myrtle Beach Oceanfront Resort has a lazy river, a hot tub, a lap pool, a swimming pool, and a kids’ splash area, all steps from the sand. The pools are heated, which made a huge difference in October.

We floated the lazy river and tried out the hot tub even with variable weather. Because it was the off season, even the beach wasn’t crowded. We still saw plenty of families in the ocean and the pool, since early October can be warm.

We spent hours walking the beachfront from our hotel. You could walk for miles in both directions.
Tip: Boogie boards are available to borrow at the resort.
Rooms: What an Oceanfront Room Looks Like
Room types include 2 Queen rooms (amusement park view or oceanfront), a 1 King Oceanfront room, and 1- and 2-bedroom villas. Some villas have full or partial kitchens. We stayed in a 2 Queen Oceanfront room with a balcony overlooking the ocean.

The hotel is older, but a major renovation was completed in January 2023. The rooms were clean and looked fresh even though some of the fixtures such as the tubs looked older. It is also a smoke-free property.
Good to know: Not all rooms have coffee pots, microwaves, and fridges. If those matter to you, be sure to check the room amenities when you book.
Indoor Fun and Activities
The resort has plenty of activities even inside. The activity center is located inside the kids club, which is good to know if you are looking for it. From there you can borrow free bikes and boogie boards. They are regular bikes, not beach bikes, so you ride on the sidewalks by the road. The resort also runs daytime activities like kite time and bingo, and there is a fairly large fitness center with machines and other types of equipment.

There is a small arcade area for kids, and a separate game room with ping pong, foosball, board games, and more. We saw kids playing ping pong with their parents, and lots of families having fun overall.

Where to Eat: Limited On-Site, Great Nearby
On-site choices are limited, but there is plenty to eat including Drafts Sports Bar & Grill, Cordovano Joe’s Pizza, Coconut Willy’s Pool Bar, and The Beachside Bistro & Marketplace. In our experience, that meant one casual restaurant with a variety of lunch and dinner items, a small bistro with breakfast items, a Starbucks, pizza you can order, and an outdoor bar. Most items ran about $17 to $25, which is pricey but within reason for a resort.

The resort menu included appetizers such as nachos, sandwiches and burgers, plus a couple salads and other entrees like fish tacos. Everything we ordered was hot and tasted fresh.
One night the resort restaurant was crowded, and we waited over an hour for our meal. We recommend eating off site if the restaurant is busy. That is easy to do, because tons of great restaurants are within easy walking distance.

We ate dinner one night at Art Burger Sushi Bar just a 15 minute walk from the resort. It was amazing.
Tip: Have a backup dinner plan. If the resort restaurant has a long wait, walk toward the Boardwalk instead.
Location and Nearby Things to Do
The resort sits right on the strand. Across the street is Family Kingdom Amusement Park, which was closed for the off season when we visited. The Myrtle Beach Boardwalk is a walkable distance, about 15 minutes on foot, with tons of stores and restaurants as well as boardwalks to stroll. The resort’s things to do page lists more nearby attractions and shows.

From the beach walk, you can see a Ferris wheel and a couple of piers. The weather was amazing for walking, and the sunsets were a nice bonus.
Cost and Things to Know Before You Book
Timing and cost
October can be a great time to visit because rates tend to be lower and the traffic out to the coast is lighter. We even saw deals online for a limited-time offer of 20% off and discounted resort fees for travel through February 28, 2027.
Rate ranges vary widely by season and source, so compare before you book.
The resort fee
The resort fee is listed as $19.99 plus tax per night on the resort overview page. The website doesn’t make it clear when you book, so factor it into your total.
Timeshare pitches
We were not asked about timeshares, but we were also on a media visit, so I can’t confirm whether timeshare pitches are normally part of check-in. We saw tours going on throughout the day, and it was a big part of the activity at the resort. You may be able to get a special deal if you agree to a timeshare presentation, since we saw both discounts online and guests enjoying perks like breakfast. If you are not interested in a timeshare, just be aware that this is a timeshare resort.
Parking, housekeeping, and dogs
- Parking: The front lot had spots for most guests. There is also a free parking garage, but it does not have resort access, so it’s a bit more of a walk with luggage.
- Housekeeping: There is no daily housekeeping or pool towel service.
- Dogs: This is a dog-friendly resort, with fees and conditions. For the most part things were quiet, but you could sometimes hear barking from the room.
- Staff: Everyone at the front desk and around the resort was very kind and helpful, even when they didn’t know we were on a media trip. The resort was also very clean.
Our Honest Verdict
This was a great, relaxing vacation for two adults, and we also saw many families at the resort having a wonderful time. If your kids live for pools, the lazy river, the beach, and a game room, this is an easy yes. If you hate surprises on a bill or want a big on-site food scene, plan for the resort fee and an off-site dinner. Go in with realistic expectations, and the off season makes it even better.
