Bring on the Biscuits, Greenville’s Got a New Culinary Tour

Posted on |

I’ve got 4 words for you: Breakfast Tour in Greenville. If there’s anything better than breakfast, it’s having breakfast three times in one morning. John Nolan, owner of Greenville History Tours, feels the same. He’s created a culinary tour of three breakfast-focused restaurants in Greenville that will leave you not only content and full, but yearning to schedule time to go back and spend an entire morning at any of them.

Kidding Around Greenville got to try this breakfast adventure and we cannot wait to share it with you.

Culinary Tours

If you are unfamiliar with John Nolan and his culinary tours, they are easily one of the best events in Greenville. It doesn’t matter if you’re visiting town, have lived here for years, or just moved in. John has mastered the art of delivering the VIP experience to guests of some of the town’s best restaurants, all the while regaling guests with tales from Greenville’s past, complete with photos.

At the Chef’s Table Culinary Tour, chefs at the restaurant stops mingle with guests, take them into their kitchens, and share food and drinks. John points out the ruins of textile mills, explains how the town was named, and shows old photos of Main Streets. I got to go on one of these tours and it was incredible. I’ve since taken my husband and the experience was just as good.

So when John reached out and told us at Kidding Around Greenville that he was launching a breakfast tour, I was all in. Breakfast is my ultimate favorite meal of the day. Game on.

Breakfast Tour

The restaurant scene is exploding in Greenville but the breakfast places aren’t getting much love. This tour highlights some of the best places in the area and wow, are they yummy.

The driving tour starts on Main Street and heads to Southern Pressed Juicery.

Founded and established in Greenville, Southern Pressed Juicery is focused on helping you take care of your health and well-being.

Their menu consists of fresh juices, acai bowls, smoothies, and salads. There’s even a Sweet Treats section with an assortment of doughnuts.

Biscuits Next

We continued on… and before we knew it, John had stopped the van at our next destination, Biscuit Head.

Truthfully, this was the place I was looking forward to the most because…biscuits. I love them. I love making them and I love eating them.

Biscuit Head opened in 2013 and has been busy ever since. Their whimsical design and creative dishes keep guests coming back for more. They even have their own cookbook that patrons can purchase.

We had a divine dish of a poached egg with lime zest, a lime crema, and a grilled chicken biscuit with avocado and mango salsa. The biscuit was so good but what pushed this dish off the charts was the jam bar.

This jam bar was crazy. It was all kinds of homemade jam, like sweet potato chai, peach, and raspberry, plus butters like the s’mores butter. It was just as tasty as it sounds. I can still taste the flavors as I write this. This was my favorite part. I should have asked for another biscuit just so I could try more jams.

And Biscuit Head sells all of their jams to go. Winner.

Oh, and the owners surprised us with a little mimosa to round out the meal. As with everything else they served, it was excellent.

Tacos…or Croissants

The last stop on your tour will either be Papis Tacos or Le Petit Croissant.

Papi’s Tacos has delicious tacos with an incredible view of the Reedy River. Their menu also features nachos and burrito bowls. And for your sweet tooth, you’ll find churros and gelato.

Le Petit Croissant specializes in artisan chocolates and pastries, but they also have a breakfast menu featuring avocado toast, B.E.C. (bacon, egg, and cheese), quiches, and other breakfast sandwiches and croissants.

Want to go?

Tours take place every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 9 am.

I’d do this again in a heartbeat… especially as a date. As a working parent, I’d also have no hesitation to reserve a spot for a client coming into town or as a breakfast meeting. It’s such an interesting idea for a creative outing in Greenville whether you are a native or just visiting.

It’s also a great way to begin a Girls Day Out or even a special Moms Morning Out or something similar. It makes a fantastic gift for friends as well.

Breakfast is underrated in my humble opinion. John Nolan and Greenville History Tours elevates breakfast the way it should be and delivers a memorable experience at the same time.

To sign up, go to the Greenville History Tours website (you can also register for John’s other great history and culinary tours as well).

9 Spots With Delicious Frozen Cocktails: Greenville, SC

Posted on |

Here’s a summertime treat for the adults: grown-up frozen beverages in Greenville, SC. If you were a huge fan of slushies, Slurpees, or other frozen drinks as a child; that sensation of drinking down a slurry of flavored ice crystals has a cathartic effect. As an adult, those frozen beverages are often spiked with wine or liquor, and make a great occasional treat after a long week of adulting.

We set out to find the most delicious frozen beverages in Greenville, SC, and we’re bringing you the top spots to sit down and relax with a frosé or other frozen adult beverage!

Finding A Frosé In Greenville, SC

I remember like it was yesterday. Someone on social media had posted about a frozen drink on Instagram and it looked amazing. What was this magical drink she spoke of? A frosty beverage of frozen rose and some extra ingredients all swirled together into a marvelous creation, and it was calling my name.

Sadly, the spot that inspired a love of these occasional treats no longer exists in Greenville. However, the anonymous social media personality and I are now friends in real life, and have had other food-inspired adventures together that include the occasional hunt for a good frosé.

Finding a frosé in Greenville is a little bit more challenging than in places like Charleston, where they seem to be found all around town. If you’re wondering, “where are all the wine slushies near me,” they do exist in the Upstate. Here’s where you can enjoy a sweet glass of frozen wine even if you aren’t a huge fan of fermented grapes.

The Juice Box Wine Bar @ Gather GVL

One of the most popular Gather GVL residents makes it so that you can enjoy a frosty wine beverage with sushi, a philly cheesesteak, pasta, burgers, or any of the other cuisines that are offered at Gather GVL vendors! They offer a rotating flavor selection that includes flights in case you can’t make up your mind.

The Taphouse @ Vaughn’s Food Hall

Another option that offers a variety of dining options to go with your frosé. Vaughn’s Food Hall has a raw bar, a German restaurant, tacos, and more. You can grab a frosé and then eat from one of the food vendors, giving you tons of options.

They also have live music on the weekends and plenty of room for kids to run around. That will allow you to enjoy this frosty treat in peace. I recently tried the “blue raspberry frosé” from The Taphouse. I don’t know why, but artificially tinted blue drinks always look so refreshing.

Topsoil Kitchen & Market

If you haven’t been to Topsoil Kitchen & Market yet, this news should seal the deal. They have frosé on top of all the other wonderful things on their farm-to-table menu! Gather up some friends and head to brunch at Topsoil Kitchen & Market, so you can eat from their delicious regularly updated menu and enjoy a grown-up beverage.

Delicious Frozen Drinks In Greenville, SC

Before there was frosé, there were other frozen cocktails that paved the way. There are places serving up unique frozen drinks in the Upstate that are perfect on a hot and humid day.

Mercado @ Gather GVL

If you’re a fan of sweet and spicy, then the Mangonada Margarita from Mercado is calling your name. This re-invented Mexican treat is traditionally served as a raspado, or a sno-cone. The addition of tajin chili powder, and a tamarind candy-covered straw is what makes this a true mangonada! They also serve frozen pina coladas, and margaritas daily.

Tacos and Blah Blah Bla

The Freezing Saucy Sangarita at Tacos and Blah Blah Bla is similar to a drink I first enjoyed at Disney Springs in Orlando. A frozen margarita swirled with sangria is the perfect treat at the end of a long week. Plus you get to eat the delicious tacos from Tacos and Blah Blah Bla, so it’s a win-win.

Home Team BBQ

The Home Team BBQ Frozen Irish coffee is Irish in name only, because it’s actually a multicultural iced coffee! If you’ve never had Vietnamese coffee, the Home Team cocktail is the perfect marriage of supercharged Vietnamese coffee and Irish whiskey!

They also serve a signature frozen drink called “The Game Changer” that includes fruit juices, cream of coconut, nutmeg, and two kinds of rum. I don’t know how to explain the flavor, except for that it’s delicious! If you aren’t sure, ask your server for a sample taste.

What is Green Laundry Lounge in Greer, SC?

Have you ever seen a poll that says something like “Which is worse: doing laundry or cooking dinner?” I don’t know about you, but I have no hesitation in telling you that I despise doing laundry. I’d rather clean toilets than do laundry. Laundry is so time-consuming and boring. But Green Laundry Lounge may change my mind.

Green Laundry Lounge’s Founder and Part-Owner, Jay Desai, is trying to reinvent laundry and dry-cleaning services so communities and families can spend more time together. Desai, who cares deeply for the environment, built a sustainable laundromat. With energy-efficient washers, dryers, and sustainable laundry products, you’ll have peace of mind knowing your laundry is being cleaned safely.

Green Laundry Lounge has an outdoor park, patio, lounge with food and drink options, an iPad station for both kids and adults, books, and a kid’s area to encourage community and gathering together. While you can drop your laundry off, you’re also invited to stay and spend time with your family while you’re doing your laundry.

The entire facility is bright, clean, and well-maintained.

How do the Laundry and Dry-Cleaning Services work at Green Laundry Lounge?

Green Laundry Lounge’s laundromat uses some of the best laundry appliances available. With washer capacities up to 80 lbs and dryers up to 83 lbs, you’ll be able to wash and dry up to 9 loads at a time (think about how much time you’ll save!). You’re able to choose as many washers and dryers as you’d like, or just utilize one. The largest capacity machines can get you in and out in under an hour.

Each machine has a delicate cycle for your most fragile fabrics. And yes, you can certainly wash and dry your large items like those down comforters and your pet’s bedding.

As for the Dry Cleaning services, Green Laundry Lounge actually uses an Organic Dry Cleaning Technology, better known as Wet-Cleaning. No harsh or harmful chemicals or solvents are used. They only use bio-degradable soap, conditioner, and water. The staff is careful in handling your delicates, and steam machines take care of your ironing and pressing needs.

Green Laundry Lounge offers same-day laundry and dry cleaning services. You can stay and wait on your laundry or drop it off to pick it up later.

They also offer a convenient rewards program that rewards you each time you come in. With every purchase, you get points that can be used for discounts or free services. It’s a great way to save money while getting your clothes clean and fresh.

The Cafe and Lounge at Green Laundry Lounge in Greer

Green Laundry Lounge has a Cafe & Lounge with both indoor and outdoor seating. You can have a hand-crafted specialty coffee, traditional chai, Beer & Wine, and a snack while waiting on your laundry. There’s even wifi if you want to get some work done while you’re there.

Most ingredients are sourced locally. Desai believes that if you can find something in Greer or localy, why would you go somewhere else to source it?

While some of the items on the menu are standard year-round, there are also seasonal options. During my visit, I tried the Caramel Crunch Latte, and it did not disappoint.
