FAQ

What do we want to know?

In order to share your experiences with readers we need to know the following:

  1. What did you love?
  2. What should parents or visitors know before going?
  3. Tell us about all those important things like were there restrooms, parking, and places to eat.

What Do We Mean By “Accepted Entry”?

When you fill out our Sharing Form above, you’ll have an opportunity to send us your comments, photos and/or video about a place you’ve visited. If we use parts or all of your submission components on one or more of our sites or social channels, that’s an “accepted entry.”

If you fill out the form for an additional place, and we use that information, that counts as a second “accepted entry.”

What Should We Share About?

Share anything you think other parents like you will love. Here are some suggestions, but this is not even remotely close to an exhaustive list.

  • Great playgrounds
  • Kids’ Meals at Local Restaurants
  • Local businesses you visit where you find great customer service
  • A beautiful hike
  • The best ice cream cone ever

I went somewhere that you already wrote about, should I still share it with you?

Yep! If you get some great photos you want to share, or notice a detail we left out, or come up with a tip for families, please do share them!

I’m a local business owner, can I use this form to submit information about my business?

Not this time. This form is for people going out, doing the things, visiting the business, sliding down the slides, you get it. BUT, we have some ways for business owners to get involved, too.

Disclaimer: Your submissions become the property of Kidding Around Media to be used on any of our websites or social media channels at any time. When taking photos and videos please be mindful to avoid photos of other people’s children. The photos and videos you submit MUST be taken by you, once accepted, they become the property of Kidding Around Media.

Moms! Prioritize Self-care with the YMCA of Greenville

Posted on |

As moms, we don’t always prioritize taking care of ourselves when we are busy with family, our jobs, and everything else in between. Make your health and well-being a priority by incorporating the YMCA of Greenville into your weekly routine. It’s a proven fact that regular physical activity is one of the best ways to reduce the negative effects stress has on your body and mental well-being and guard your body against viruses and chronic diseases.

Since being a parent is a wonderful, yet challenging job, it’s best for everyone if Mom is as strong and healthy as possible. We can’t take good care of others if we run out of steam or get sick, so do this for yourself – and for your family.

This article was previously sponsored by the YMCA of Greenville.

moms prioritize self-care with the ymca

The Y has myriad options available for busy parents. Here are five ways the YMCA of Greenville can help moms stay healthy.

(1) Group Exercise Classes – There’s no need to go to one of those expensive specialty or box workout places. Need to get your Zen on? We’ve got classes for that. Need to work out your frustrations? We’ve got classes for that, too. The Y has everything you need – from cycling, yoga, and HIIT classes to water aerobics, boot camp and kickboxing. And, Child Watch is available* while you work out – all for the price of your monthly household membership.

(2) Personal Training – Many of us could benefit from an accountability partner, to encourage us, and push us harder than if we work out alone. Personal training at the Y is a great solution. The Y’s nationally certified Y personal trainers can customize your workout plans based on where you are in your health journey, what goals you want to achieve and will keep you motivated to reach them. Personal training packages come in many forms, including 1-on-1, duo, and small group sessions.

(3) Virtual Wellness Classes, Goal Tracking and More – The Y’s mobile app includes workouts you can do from home or at the Y with the ability to set goals and track your progress. If you are coming to the Y, you can schedule personal training sessions, snag a spot for yourself in a group exercise class and a spot for your kids in Child Watch while you work out, view exercise tutorials to learn the best way to do wall balls, split squats or deadlifts, track your biometrics, set goals and more – all from your mobile phone. It really couldn’t be easier when everything you need is in the palm of your hands.

(4) Nutritional Counseling – Fueling your body with the right types of foods is just as important as a well-developed workout plan. The Y’s in-house registered dietician at Caine Halter Family YMCA can help you and your family put together meal plans for healthier eating habits and can even customize plans to help manage chronic diseases or illnesses. There are multiple packages to choose from, which makes this option a perfect fit for seasoned foodies and nutritional newbies alike!

(5) Financial Assistance and Discounts – One of the greatest things about the Y is that it is a cause-driven non-profit with a mission to help build a better spirit, mind and body for all. Those last two words are important. The Y offers financial assistance so that anyone who wants to join the Y can do so, regardless of their ability to pay. As a household member, you also get discounts on programs for your kids like swim lessons, youth sports and more. What parent doesn’t need a little more wiggle room in their budget?

So now you know five of the ways the Y can help you be a stronger, healthier and less stressed mom. What gift could be better than that? Give yourself, or a deserving mom in your life, the gift of health with a membership to the YMCA of Greenville.

From Crooked to Confident Teeth: Our Journey with Dr. Tom’s Orthodontics

Posted on |

This article is written in partnership with Dr. Tom’s Orthodontics. All opinions are our own.

Do you have a kid who is definitely going to need braces and maybe even can’t wait to get them so they can have straight teeth? My daughter Elizabeth has begged us for braces for years as she is self-conscious about her teeth being crooked. However, every time we had an orthodontic consultation, we were told that her mouth was not ready yet. Finally, this spring, we got the news that she had been waiting for from Doctor Tom’s Orthodontics that Elizabeth’s mouth was ready for braces.

Doctor Tom's Orthodontics

We know that many of our readers also have kids who will need braces. Plus, you probably have a lot of questions (we did!). We’ll be sharing our braces journey here on Kidding Around so that you know what to expect. You’ll also learn why Doctor Tom’s Orthodontics is a spot you should include on your list of local orthodontists to consider.

Meet Dr. Tollison: The team’s newest addition

After serving Greenville for over 30 years, Dr. Tom is stepping aside to make way for new a new doctor to begin crafting smiles for our local kids. He cannot wait for you to meet his hand-chosen replacement, Dr. Tollison!

Dr. Tollison is a Greenville native, having gone to high school at our very own Riverside High School, and attending Clemson University for his undergraduate degree. He earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine Degree at the Medical University of South Carolina, and graduated top of his class. He went on to serve in the United States Air Force as a military dentist. After his military service, Dr. Tollison completed his orthodontic specialty training at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.

Accomplishments aside, Dr. Tom cannot wait for you all to meet Dr. Tollison because of his positive energy and love for life! Dr. Tom couldn’t believe how seamlessly their philosophies and outlooks on life matched up. He is confident that everyone will be in good hands with Dr. Tollison!

His practice, Dr. Tom’s Orthodontics, was voted by our readers as a 2024 KABOOM Awards Winner.

How Do You Know If Your Kid is Ready for Braces?

The journey kicked off with a free consultation, where Cathy, the Treatment Coordinator snapped some x-rays and made sure our paperwork was entered correctly. After everything was in the system, Dr. Tom examined Elizabeth’s teeth and laid out a treatment plan. The plan included what types of correction Elizabeth’s teeth would need, any necessary dental appointments, and the predicted length of the treatment.

A consultation to learn if your kid needs braces and what they will cost is absolutely free, no strings attached!

The office even offered to send the x-rays taken to our pediatric dentist to save costs at our next dentist appointment. We left with everything we needed to make an informed decision. Dr. Tom even offered to record his assessment on my phone so I could share it easily with my husband.

Dr. Tom’s Office is a Space Designed to Make Kids and Parents at Home

At Dr. Tom’s, the office is more than an orthodontic clinic; it’s a kid-friendly space that helps ease stress. From the cheerful greetings to the personalized name boards adorning the walls, every detail is designed to make kids feel right at home. And let’s not forget the prize wheel the kids can spin at the end – Elizabeth’s favorite part of every visit!

At Doctor Tom’s, parents are welcome to accompany their child in the treatment room, because let’s be real – sometimes your kid wants you there for support. In addition, with an average of just three office visits per year during school hours, your kid will miss a minimum of school.

Oh, and did I mention the little free library in the lobby? Elizabeth is a bookworm, so she had fun picking out a new book and maybe next time we’ll bring one of our favorites to leave for another child.

For parents that need to bring work along to appointments, the lobby also has several workstations complete with outlets.

Top-notch Treatment, Tailored for You

Dr. Tom’s all-inclusive fee covers everything from the initial exam and consultation to office visits and retainers. And if you decide to move forward, they offer a monthly, no-interest payment plan to make it easier on the budget. Yep, you heard that right – no surprise fees or hidden costs, just a straightforward path to a dazzling smile.

And speaking of retainers, Dr. Tom has got you covered with three replacements included in the fee. Because let’s face it, kids will be kids, and retainers have a knack for disappearing into thin air (or the school lunch trash can)!

SPEED Braces: A Smile Above the Rest

At Doctor Tom’s, it’s not just about straightening teeth; it’s about boosting confidence. That’s one of the reasons that they provide the modern option of SPEED braces. The SPEED braces are only ⅓ of the size of traditional braces and use a spring clip to move the teeth. This new technology isn’t only less visible but is more comfortable, traps less food, and can even result in less visits.

Complete Your Perfect Weekend with Brunch at Cantina 76

Posted on |

Love a good brunch? KAG Contributor Kristina Hernandez does, and she’s sharing all the info about brunch at Cantina 76. Find out about the Mexican-inspired brunch fare and drinks on the new menu. Don’t blame us if you’re hungry when you finish reading. Just make plans for brunch!

Brunch is the best meal, hands down. It’s the ultimate combination of sweet and savory, preferably enjoyed with a mimosa. All of those expectations are met with the new brunch at Cantina 76, the locally-owned and operated Mexican-inspired establishment in the heart of downtown Greenville. I had the chance to try the brunch menu recently and it was glorious.

Brunch at Cantina 76

Cantina 76 prides itself on using fresh and local ingredients to create imaginative dishes and handcrafted margaritas (which I highly recommend). Brunch follows this same idea and the results are delicious.

The Chicken & Waffles is sweet and savory with fried chicken and an ancho honey glaze, served with fruit and syrup if you like. Everything was cooked to perfection and now my kids want waffles every morning.

The Avocado Toast is perfection. Lots of ripe avocado spread across toasted bread and topped with a fried egg, pico de gallo, and lime crema.

You can enjoy the Steak and Egg Migas with either one taco or two, which has wok-seared flank steak, cheddar cheese, scrambled eggs, picante verde, and caramelized onions topped with crispy tortilla strips.

Other options include a huge Breakfast Rollup with chorizo, cheese, eggs, tater tots, and crema with pico de gallo, the Huevos Rancheros with refried beans, salsa fritti, sunny side up eggs, and salsa verde, and the Breakfast Bowl with smashed tots, salsa, a fried egg, cheese, and crumbled bacon.

Brunch Beverages at Cantina 76

Mimosas are also on the brunch menu because it’s brunch. The classic mimosa is composed of orange juice and champagne and is refreshing and delightful. Just be prepared to explain to your kids that it’s not orange juice.

Cantina 76 also serves a Honeysuckle Mimosa, Pama Mimosa, Peach Mimosa, and a Bloody Mary. Sides of fruit and tater tots are also on the menu.  Outdoor seating is available when the weather cooperates.

Cantina 76 is Family Friendly

The laid back atmosphere of Cantina 76 is perfect for families too. The staff are all very kind and accommodating and kids will recognize things they have eaten before on the menu, even though they are presented with a tasty twist. My two young kids really enjoyed everything and they aren’t exactly adventurous eaters. We’ll be back for sure.
