The SCCT Performance Stages

Bell Stage

Theatre productions are detail-oriented, bursting with color and costume, and bring to life and reimagine a popular story or play. Theatre productions run by season, with each season having performances spread out over several months. Each production has multiple showings, so you can plan a date night out with your kids! Both stages are also accessible, so productions can be enjoyed by everyone.

Bell Stage performances use large set designs, costumes, puppets, and anything else needed to help bring the story from the pages of the book or script onto the stage. You can find big musicals and plays on this stage. Bell Stage productions have longer run times with intermissions. You can find run time information on the SCCT website. There are also assigned seats for Bell Stage productions, so make sure you purchase tickets early if you have large groups that want to sit together.

Younts 2nd Stage

Younts 2nd Stage performances also offer the pop, color, and costumes that the Bell Stage productions do, but performances are more intimate and held on a smaller stage. This allows performers to really engage with the audience.

These productions are shorter, approximately 45 minutes to an hour long, so they are an excellent choice for younger (with shorter attention spans) audience members. Tickets for Younts Stage are also cheaper than Bell Stage productions, so that’s great on the budget!

Performances Right For Your Family

All theatre productions at SCCT have an age range recommendation, so be sure to check to see which performance best suits your child. SCCT recommends that most productions be for children 3 and older.

The majority of these theatre productions are held on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, with daytime and evening showings available, so they make an excellent parent/child date day!

To find out more information about the upcoming SCCT performances on both the Bell and Younts stages, head to the SCCT website.

Weekday School Performances

Want to see a stage performance for a field trip? If you’re a teacher or homeschooling group, you can check out performances at SCCT through their weekday school performances on the Bell Stage and the Youths Stage. All students, teachers, chaperones, and bus drivers will need a ticket to view the performance.

SCCT Flex Pass for Performances

Looking to save some money while also seeing all of the amazing upcoming shows at the South Carolina Children’s Theatre? The SCCT Flex Pass program offers first-priority seating, unlimited free ticket exchanges, discounts on classes, and discounts to downtown stores. There are three price points to choose from, Blue, Green, or Orange, that allow for a specific number of tickets per package.

Pay What You Can Tickets

The South Carolina Children’s Theatre offers a “Pay What You Can” ticket program for select performances of select shows throughout the year.

You’ll find these performances labeled as a “Pay What You Can Performance” within each show’s schedule on the South Carolina Children’s Theatre Website. When you see a Pay What You Can Performance on the website, follow the directions on that link to purchase your tickets.

Free Performances at the South Carolina Children’s Theatre

One of the best things about SCCT is that they offer free performance events through their Tell-Me-a- Story Theatre and Once Upon an Orchestra programs.

Tell Me a Story Theatre is a high-energy telling of a popular children’s story or book that is engaging for younger children, think PreK to early elementary students.  The event is completely free, and is located in the Prisma Health Lobby. The performance and story reading lasts around 30 minutes, great for squirmy kids. You can check out Tell-Me-a-Story once per month.

Once Upon an Orchestra is a partnership between SCCT and the Greenville Symphony Orchestra that brings children’s literature and music together through storytelling. Your child (and you) can enjoy Once Upon an Orchestra three times per year, for free! Performances last around 30 minutes and are perfect for children age K3 through 5th grade.  You can find upcoming performances of Once Upon an Orchestra on the SCCT website.

Theatre Classes at the SCCT

Support your child’s interest in the performing arts with classes at The South Carolina Children’s Theatre! SCCT’s Theatre Arts Conservatory offers a variety of classes for kids interested in learning about acting, drama, stage management, directing, musical theater, and so much more!

Classes use a lot of fun activities to strengthen your child’s imagination, self-expression, confidence, and self-discipline. These classes also build a foundation for theatre arts concepts. Classes build onto one another, so SCCT encourages parents to not rush their child through the classes, but to allow them to make natural progress. Classes are grouped by age, so even your budding three-year-old Broadway star can enjoy these immersive classes!

  • Ages 3-6: Children in this age range will play games, sing songs, explore characters, and engage their imagination in a low-pressure environment. Classes are typically once per week for one hour. Multiple classes are offered, with classes in theatre exploration, singing, and stage production available.
  • Grades 1-6: Children in this age range will explore theatre training through improv activities and high-energy games. There are several classes available for this age range where they can learn about process acting, singing, musical theatre, or improvisation.
  • Grades 6-12: Classes for this age range become more technical and build on their knowledge of the performing arts. Kids can learn about process acting, singing, musical theatre, solo singing, and improvisation.

  • All The Colors of the Spectrum: For children in 2nd through 12th grade with developmental or processing challenges, SCCT offers All The Colors of the Spectrum! Through modified activities, children with special needs can engage in theatre arts through immersive storytelling, sketch creation, collaboration, and more.
  • Acting for Adults: SCCT offers FREE classes for adult students college-age and up! Classes are for both beginner and seasoned actors to engage in the theatre arts.

Workshops at the South Carolina Children’s Theatre

Sometimes you need a date night, or a morning out. Sometimes you even need some extra help when your kids are out for holidays. SCCT can help you out with their workshops!

  • Workday Workshops occur during school break days when children are out of school on a random Monday or Friday for a teacher workday. These workshops engage children in group-based activities but are not usually themed.
  • Kids Night Out happens once per month, where parents can drop off their kids for a few hours. Kids Night Out is a fun night of themed activities, with theatre games followed by a movie and snack. Kids Night Out is from 6 pm to 10 pm, with pre-registration required.
  • Saturday Morning Mania is when parents can drop off their kids for a few hours of shopping or a fancy brunch in Downtown Greenville. Saturday Morning Mania happens once per month. There are themed drama games and activities with a picnic lunch. Parents should preregister ahead of time.

SCCT Summer Camp

SCCT’s Summer Camps are an excellent way to keep your kids busy over the summer! Summer camps are offered for ages K3 through high school. Each camp is designed to boost confidence while having fun learning about theatre.

Soaky Mountain Waterpark Brings Thrills for the Whole Family: Sevierville, TN

Posted on |

If you’re planning a family vacation to Eastern Tennessee, make sure to add Soaky Mountain Waterpark in Sevierville to your must-visit list! Located just minutes from Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, this massive outdoor waterpark is packed with water coasters, a lazy river with a twist, a huge wave pool, and several slides even your younger kids will get a thrill from. Erin recently visited with her kids and shares her honest Soaky Mountain Waterpark review—plus helpful tips to help you plan the ultimate day of fun in the sun!

Soaky Mountain Waterpark in Sevierville, Tennessee

I’m a sucker for a good waterpark! Give me fast slides, wave pools, and cool water on a hot day, and I’m all in. Soaky Mountain Waterpark in Sevierville, TN, totally delivered. Less than three hours from the Upstate, it’s the kind of place that makes the drive worth it.

Opened in 2020 with a whopping $90 million investment, the park brought 500 jobs to the area and brought along some much-needed entertainment to the growing area. It’s right across the street from Wilderness at the Smokies (a resort we’d absolutely recommend), and if you stay there, you can score discounted tickets to Soaky Mountain, which is a great bonus!

Attractions at Soaky Mountain Waterpark

Soaky Mountain’s 50-acre park is loaded with thrilling waterslides and splash zones for all ages. With younger kids in tow, my husband and I took turns hitting the big rides—The Edge was an adrenaline rush ( I couldn’t stop grinning after that race), and he couldn’t get enough of The Avalaunch. The 35,000-square-foot wave pool was another highlight. The waves felt just like the ocean, minus the sharks and jellyfish. Big win! With swells reaching up to six feet, it brought serious beach vibes to the Smokies. Our family favorite had to be Black Bear Rapids, and for a good reason (keep reading to find out why!).

Rides We Loved

My kids (ages 6 and 3) loved The Hive, a multi-story water playground with several age-appropriate slides for kids, although lots of adults were playing with their kids on it.

The Hive at Soaky Mountain

Boomer’s Bay & The Edge

They also couldn’t get enough of Boomer’s Bay, which is located behind the giant Soaky Surge wave pool over by The Edge. Here, my little adrenaline junky 3 year old could ride “big kid waterslides”, which were just pint size versions of larger tube slides. Here, my husband and I took turns catching a ride on The Edge. This was my absolute favorite! The two-seater dualing watercoaster takes you on a race against another group through tubes and up the side of an incline before crowning the winner.

Our writer, Kristina, also visited Soaky Mountain in 2023 and said that The Edge was “Unreal. I screamed my head off because immediately you are sent into a stomach-churning drop, then launched into tubes with AquaLucent light rings, then another drop, then speed into more tubes with more lights. The final, three-story drop sends you high up on a near-vertical launch on the Boomerango wall. I was terrified and wanted to do it all over again.”

Rainbow’s Revenge

Kristina and her kids loved Rainbow’s Revenge, a huge, multi-passenger raft ride through a bright, colorful, and semi-fast tube. That one was a blast, and getting in line early made it a fun start to the day.

The Avalaunch

My husband was able to sneak away to ride The Avalaunch, which is touted as a “first of its kind” watercoaster. My husband was grinning ear to ear after this slide, and said it was an adrenaline rush, saying “as you go down the hill and get shot back up, you get drenched before entering two turns, before you get shot out into the wall climb, which has an awesome view”.

We spent a lot of the afternoon checking out any of the areas that our younger kids could enjoy, including the Soaky Surge wave pool, which has some pretty intense waves! We had both kids out toward the 4-foot section with their lifejackets on, and the waves were a lot of fun. Just make sure your kid can swim if they want to go out that far, or they will stop the wave action early. This is a great place to lounge, there are dozens of chairs and shade along the shore.

Black Bear Rapids

My daughter’s favorite, and possibly all of ours, was Black Bear Rapids. She has a thing for lazy rivers, so we grabbed some tubes and made our way through the course. I failed to read the sign saying that the rapids would be occurring during that time, and was pleasantly thrilled when we were floating along and a huge wave came cruising toward us! It had us all laughing hysterically, and it is such a unique take on the traditional lazy river. There are only a couple of times throughout the day that they have the rapids turned on, but it is fun either way.

For a list of all the rides, watercoasters, slides, and height and weight requirements, see the Soaky Mountain website.

Food at Soaky Mountain Waterpark

You won’t go hungry at Soaky Mountain Waterpark, there’s no shortage of food options throughout the park. From a taco truck and a frozen yogurt shop to multiple snack bars, you’ll find everything from nachos, pretzels, and popcorn to hot dogs, cookies, novelty ice cream, fresh-squeezed lemonade, ICEEs, bottled water, and fountain drinks. Just know that alcohol isn’t served on-site.

To save some money, we recommend packing your own lunch, the park allows reentry with a valid day ticket, perfect if you want to step outside to eat. Just note that outside food and drinks aren’t allowed inside the park, except for sealed water bottles.

Cabanas

Cabana rentals start at $69.99 for a two-person rental and go up to $399.99 for a 20-person rental. These are private shelters around the park that include access to a server and a limited menu (food and beverages are extra). We noticed that you could reserve them at different sections of the park, so if you know that you are going to spend a lot of time in a certain area, shoot for booking a cabana there.

I saw a lot of families utilizing these. They are great as a home base to relax, eat, rest, change diapers, etc. And you rent them by the day.

Tips For Visiting Soaky Mountain

1. Arrive Early to Maximize Your Day
One of the best tips for visiting Soaky Mountain Waterpark is to get there early. We visited at the beginning of June, and many of the lines were short early in the day. However, at midday, the crowds began to form, and the waits for the bigger slides were much longer. Still, the earlier you go, the more rides you can enjoy with little to no lines.

2. Rent a Locker for Your Stuff
Lockers are available near the entrance and are totally worth it if you’re bringing towels, dry clothes, your wallet, or other valuables. The smallest lockers cost $13 for the day, and they give you peace of mind so you can focus on the fun without juggling your gear. We just carried out things from place to place, but after a chat with a local, we realized it was because it was early in the season. For peak season (June/July/August), there are almost no chairs to lay your things down in.

3. Skip the Water Shoes, Maybe
Wondering if you need water shoes at Soaky Mountain? We didn’t find them necessary. Many waterslides don’t allow shoes anyway, so we stashed ours in the locker and went barefoot. The ground wasn’t too hot, even in the afternoon sun. That said, if you’re sensitive to heat or prefer sandals for walking between attractions, bring a pair just in case.

4. Be Ready for Some Stair Climbing
This waterpark doubles as a leg workout! Many of the best rides, like the mat racing slide and several tube slides, require a climb to the top. Plus, you may also be dragging along a float. One of our favorite slides had nearly 100 steps, and we rode it multiple times. My legs definitely felt it the next day, but it was totally worth it. If you need to pause and catch your breath, don’t worry—there are plenty of landings to rest on the way up.

Soaky Mountain Tickets

A one-day ticket online for adults (over 42”) is $52.99 and tickets for kids under 42” are $43.99. Ages 2 and under are free. The family 4 pack is a steal at $43.99 per ticket. If you go after 4 pm, tickets are slightly cheaper.

If you stay at Wilderness at the Smokies resort across the street, you can purchase discounted tickets or even get them for free during some specials. We were able to snag a deal during the last weekend of May that included free tickets to Soaky Mountain, which we took the shuttle from the hotel to the waterpark and back. A season pass also includes discounted rooms at Wilderness at the Smokies.

Parking is $14.75/car when bought online and $19.25/bus and RVs. If you’re paying at the gate, it costs around $20/car.

Hours vary, so look at the Soaky Mountain Waterpark calendar to see updated hours before you go. They are open mid-May through August, and with select dates in September, weather permitting. They also have a rain check policy if the park has to close for more than 90 minutes.

What We Love To Do at Falls Park

If you are looking for something family-friendly to do in Greenville SC, Falls Park on the Reedy River is a wonderful place to spend the day. Its natural beauty has been amplified by strategic gardening and architectural planning, adding to its charm and Southern romanticism.

What used to be a grist mill has transformed into a charming area to relax and connect with our community, in large part due to a combined effort of Furman University, the City of Greenville, and the Carolina Foothills Garden Club. Good thing they put in so much effort because Falls Park is thriving!

Take in the Sights on Liberty Bridge

The suspension bridge, plastered on postcards, magazine articles, and Greenville merchandise, is stunning. The bridge is an architectural masterpiece that offers spectacular views of the falls.

If you walk out onto the bridge, it is a great place to take photos while taking in views of the falls and downtown Greenville. Liberty Bridge is particularly beautiful at night, as the area is lit up with lights, and the downtown area is illuminated.

Enjoy a Picnic on the Grassy Spaces

Located around Liberty Bridge are several open field areas to lie down a blanket for a picnic, play with your kids, or watch street performers and buskers on a warm afternoon. Though you may be tempted to take a dip in the river while playing in the grassy spaces, know that it is forbidden to play in the Reedy River. The river has a high level of bacteria that can make you sick!

Explore the Gardens

The Carolina Foothills Garden Club Sanctuary and Pedrick’s Garden at Falls Park are two of the most popular downtown attractions. These gardens feature mixes of foliage, literal tons of gorgeous stonework, and are a great way to have your kids burn off some energy. We always see a lizard or two while there.

Be sure to get the obligatory photo with the Medusa tree located near the Governor’s School. Many of the gardens run along the river, so be careful not to damage the plants while exploring. There are also a number of ducks, geese, and other wildlife you will want to be sure to avoid. Never feed the ducks bread!

Hunting Island State Park: Wild Palmettos, Nesting Sea Turtles, and a Lighthouse

Posted on |

Inside: Our family visited Hunting Island State Park while on vacation in the Lowcountry, and saw a lot of wildlife while beachcombing the unspoiled beaches. Find out why we think this SC State Park is one of the most interesting of the 48 parks.

Hunting Island State Park offers a maritime forest and coastal experience that is the pinnacle of South Carolina’s Lowcountry! Highlights include:

🐢 Loggerhead turtles nesting, shelling, wildlife sightings, a boneyard beach, and a historic lighthouse.
🏕️Family-friendly with camping, nature trails, a nature center with live animals, and a fishing pier.

Hunting Island State Park

Once we entered the maritime forest-lined roads full of wild palmetto trees during our recent visit to Hunting Island State Park, I knew we were in for a treat. The park feels almost untouched by time. Located in the Lowcountry of SC, Hunting Island is one of 48 SC State Parks and ranks highly now on my family’s list of favorites.

Plus, the park offers camping, a “boneyard beach” with spectacular photography opportunities, and a historic lighthouse (that is currently getting a facelift and is under construction). Maybe your next adventure could be to Hunting Island State Park, you will not be disappointed!

Loggerhead Sea Turtle nesting site at Hunting Island State Park

Hunting Island Beach: SC

With around 15 miles of beach to explore, it is a wild experience to look back from the shoreline and see what the SC coast may have looked like hundreds of years ago. With wild saw palmetto trees lining the shore, rugged dunes, and lots of opportunities to find shells, especially shark teeth, we spent several hours beachcombing.

We spotted a couple of horseshoe crabs, cannonball jellyfish by the dozen, and even a couple of loggerhead sea turtle nests amongst the dunes. Turtle nesting season begins in early May and goes until fall, so be cautious when walking on the beach and stay off the dunes. If you live close by, you can join the efforts of the Friends of Hunting Island and their sea turtle conservation team, helping protect the nests. How cool!

Our visit coincided with a rainstorm, but that didn’t keep us off the beach. Our family, along with a couple of other groups, enjoyed the sandy beach under the overcast sky. If you plan to swim, be cautious, as the state park does not have lifeguards on duty, so you will want to be a strong swimmer and know the signs of rip currents if you plan to head out into the water. However, the quietness of a beach that is undisturbed and uncrowded is unparalleled to the often crowded beaches of the SC coast.

Tents and umbrellas are allowed on the beaches, and parking lots A and D are two of the best options we found to get to the beach. It was a short walk from the parking lot to the shoreline, so you do not have to worry about long walks with your equipment and little kids.

Beach Access

To get to the North Beach, you’ll follow along the one-way road to Parking Lot D. Here, you’ll find wide, sandy stretches of beach where you can sunbathe, build sand castles, or comb the beach for seashells and shark teeth.

If you are looking for a unique landscape at the park, head toward the south beach. Here, you’ll find the “boneyard”, which is a collection of dozens of eroded trees and driftwood. This part of the park is great for exploring and taking photographs. We got caught in a thunderstorm and didn’t make it to south beach for this visit, but it will be our first stop next time we go.

Walking the beaches of Hunting Island

Family-Friendly Things to Do At Hunting Island

Nature Trails: Three nature trails at Hunting Island are great for all skill levels. The Campground Access trail (1 mile), the Lighthouse Trail (0.3 mile), and the Marsh Boardwalk NRT (0.4 mile). If you’re looking for longer walks, there is also an 8-mile hike/bike trail you can enjoy. All trails are scenic, it just depends on what you’re wanting to do during your visit.

Nature Center: Recently renovated, it offers interactive wild animals on exhibit and educational programs about the island’s ecosystems.

Wildlife watching: Hunting Island is great for birdwatchers, with egrets and herons along with a lot of other sea birds. There is also a lot of wildlife, including deer, alligators, and, most famously, loggerhead sea turtles. The sea turtles regularly nest on the island, with 2024 having almost 200 loggerhead turtle nests!

Visit the Iconic Lighthouse: The Hunting Island lighthouse is currently closed for repairs. However, the cylindrical scaffolding being used to repair the lighthouse is pretty interesting to look at.

Camping: There are several camp sites available to reserve through the SC State Parks website at Hunting Island, some of which are primitive (which is my personal preference). The Island has both tent camping and RV sites available, but they book up pretty far in advance, so make sure you plan.

Fishing Pier: The 950-foot pier is perfect for fishing or simply enjoying the ocean breeze. Hunting Island is part of the Tackle Loaner Program through the SC State Parks, so you can borrow a rod and reel to fish from the pier.

Playground: Near the lighthouse, where you will find a small snack shack and the bathrooms, there is also a pretty cute playground. It fits in great with the surrounding trees, and there is a good bit of seating for picnics in this area. This is closest to Parking Lot D.

Core Memories Begin Here: Plan Your Family Adventure to Fripp Island Resort

Posted on |

Fripp Island Golf & Beach Resort isn’t just another family vacation to a golf resort- it is a reimagined Lowcountry escape where your family can immerse themselves in nature and resort amenities. Our family spent a few unforgettable days exploring the island, and were enchanted by the moss-draped oaks, free-roaming deer, and pristine beaches that left us filled with wonder and joy, along with lasting memories. Use our review to help you plan your own memory-making vacation to Fripp Island!

Special Thanks to Fripp Island Golf & Beach Resort, along with Buffalo Groupe, for hosting our family on the island!

Fripp Island Beach and Golf Resort

What is Fripp Island Resort?

Fripp Island, a private island in the Lowcountry of South Carolina, is situated just east of Beaufort. One of a string of barrier islands along the coast, Fripp offers over 3.5 miles of uncrowded sandy beaches, rental homes, and two scenic golf courses – Ocean Point and Ocean Creek- that span the entire island.

There are 10 restaurants, a racquet club, an equestrian center, a marina center, and a fantastic activity center with special activities daily!

There are no hotels on Fripp, but visitors can stay in beautiful beach houses, villas, or condos—many of which are uniquely decorated and privately owned.

🌟Tip: We recommend renting a golf cart from the resort or bringing your own from home when you visit the island. This is the easiest and safest way to travel around the island. Plus, it is so much fun, especially for kids! Our six-year-old said that riding the golf cart around was her number 1 favorite thing about our trip, go figure.

A Resort in Harmony with Nature: The Wildlife

Fripp Island Resort is a haven for vacationers who love nature but still want comfort and convenience. Not only is the resort clean and organized, but it is also home to an abundance of wildlife.

The Famous Deer on Fripp Island

After entering the island’s security gates, you will almost immediately see a deer or two grazing in the grass. The island is known for them, and it is a very unique experience! The docile deer can be seen throughout the island, hanging out by the roadside, and even from your back porch, munching away and living their best lives. We counted at least 50 just cruising around on our golf cart, but it was cool to see one traveling across the dunes. Our daughters were thrilled to spot baby fawns up close—it felt like something out of a storybook.

Wild Deer on Fripp Island

Alligators

In addition to deer, you may see a couple of the 160+ alligators that call the island home. Most of the ones that we saw were only a foot or two long, but we did get a distant view of a couple that were 5- 10 feet long, including Arthur and Gwen (located in the ponds off Ocean Creek Boulevard). Signage is posted throughout the island to remind visitors to keep a safe distance, especially with small kids. Your golf cart makes for a great (and safe) observation platform.

Other Wildlife You May See

During our trip, we saw a greater variety of wildlife than I have ever seen in person. From herons, vultures, egrets, and other seabirds, to crabs, snakes, raccoons, we were always on the hunt for the next things to see. We even got to see a bald eagle on the beach take flight. Core memory made!

Nature Boardwalks Through the Marsh

Aside from a quick drive around the island on a golf cart to view wildlife, there are several boardwalks through the marsh that will give you a much better view. We were invited to take a marsh tour with a fantastic and highly knowledgeable naturalist, Hannah. It was the best way to start our trip.

We learned so much, and Hannah was so engaged with our children that it made the experience educational and fun. We saw a feeding egret, tons of crabs and clams, learned about the ecology and native flora and fauna of a marsh in the Lowcountry, and even got to taste a plant called a “salty sea pickle”.

I highly recommend the guided marsh walk, but you can also ride your bikes or take a self-guided walk through one as a great morning or evening activity.

🌟Tip: Walk the marsh boardwalks at both low and high tide to see a dramatic difference! We learned during our guided marsh walk that the island has the highest tides in the entire United States.

Marsh Walk: Fripp Island Beach and Golf Resort

The Beaches at Fripp Island Resort

Unlike other popular SC beaches, Fripp’s shorelines are peaceful and uncrowded—even during busier months. You’ll have plenty of space to stretch out, search for shells, or simply relax.

During our beach time, we saw a lot of cannonball jellyfish- which do not sting- along the shoreline. During calmer water days, you may even see dolphins swimming off the coastline. We saw a variety of seabirds, including the large groups of brown pelicans, which were a treat every time they came by. Our kids loved searching for shells, which is a rite of passage in my book.

The beaches at Fripp Island do not have lifeguards, so be cautious when entering the water and watch for signs of wildlife or rip currents, which occur regularly off the SC coast.

Beach Access: Fripp Island

There are 32 beach access points across Fripp Island, so you can choose the same spot each time you visit, or switch it up and explore the different entry points. We enjoyed beach access #21 and #25.

Tent and Umbrella Rentals

The beach does allow umbrellas and tents, which is perfect for shade. You can make reservations with The Beach Hut, where you can rent chairs and umbrellas (along with a variety of other beach items). Reserve ahead of time!

The Fripp Island Resort Pools

There is not just one pool you can access, there are nine pools on the island! You will find them at the five separate complexes, including the Beach Club, Olympic, Marina, Ocean Point, and Cabana Club. We visited the pools at The Cabana Club and the Olympic Pool at the Beach Club, and they were perfect for our kids and us to play for most of the day.

Our personal favorite was the pools at The Cabana Club near Veranda Beach. This pool has a fantastic location, with views of Skull Inlet and Pritchard’s Island as your backdrop. There are three pools at The Cabana Club, one of which is heated. We visited during early May, so it was nice to enjoy a swim without the bite of cold water.

The Cabana Club pool at Fripp Island Resort

The lagoon pool at the club was gorgeous! There were carved-out structures and caves with little waterfalls throughout, it was by far my six-year-old’s favorite pool. A small children’s pool with a cute frog slide is located at the back of The Cabana Club, perfect for our three-year-old to safely splash and play.

The Beach Club at the center of the island offers an Olympic-style pool that is also heated until Thanksgiving, so you can enjoy a swim or get some exercise while there.

The Fripp Island Activity Center Should Be Your Daily Stop

The Fripp Island Activity Center is the place to go if you have younger kids. There is something to do every single day of the week. Some of the activities are free, including a meet and greet with the animals. There are also a couple of really neat reptiles upstairs at the activity center you can view and learn about for free.

We loved Gatorology—a class and tour led by naturalist Hannah, that included learning about alligators and safely spotting them in the wild. Our kids even got to meet and touch a resident gator. So neat!

Other activities, like crafting, golf course scavenger hunt, tie dying, guided marsh walks, and more, cost a fee ranging from $6 – $15. Here is where you can also go to experience Marsh Kayaking (~$60-$80) or Island Bike Adventure (~$35).

Our entire family loved these activities, especially since a lot of them could be experienced indoors. We had a good bit of rain during our visit to Fripp, but these activities kept our kids engaged and having fun.

For 2025, during the summer months, kids ages 5 – 15 can join Camp Fripp for half-day or full-day camp and become a Junior Naturalist. While they are at camp, you can grab breakfast with your partner at The Beach Club!

Fripp Island SC Rentals: Homes, Condos, and Villas

There are several options for Fripp Island rentals at the resort, depending on availability and your budget. For smaller families, the villas would make a great affordable option for your vacation. The Villas are close to the center of the island, near The Beach Club, the arcade, and the Olympic Pool, so you’re right near a lot of the activity.

If you are staying with family or a group of friends, we recommend splitting a home for the week. Most rates during the summer are by the week, so keep that in mind when booking.

We were invited to stay at a lovely vacation rental off of Veranda Road on the south end of the island, and it was a fantastic experience. The home was gorgeous, and the back porch had a direct view of a pond. Our daughter woke us up one morning to see that a large group of egrets were hanging out in the pond, only about 30 feet from our bedroom window!

🌟Tip: Book ahead of time so you can stay where you love! Homes on the northern side of the island may offer views of the Hunting Island State Park, while southern homes may be able to see Prichards Island.

Dining at Fripp Island Beach & Golf Resort

There are several restaurants right on the island, so you do not have to travel far to grab breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

The Beach Club (Great for breakfast).  My husband enjoyed the Banging Burrito, so much so that he ate it for breakfast every day. The kids both loved the waffles, which they loaded with fruit and whipped cream. We dined in and carried out, and both experiences were great.

Bonito Boathouse (Fantastic dinner views). The beautiful views of the waterways and the boats will keep your kids calm for dinner while you enjoy your meal. We were even treated to a pod of dolphins passing by while we ate our dinner!

Island Bites (Great for quick eats). If you are looking for a quick bite to eat or lunch for picky eaters, then Island Bites is where to go. You can get fries, chicken nuggets, coffee, ice cream, and all the treats.

Key Things to Know Before You Go

  • There are a lot of wild animals, so be cautious and follow all the rules about the local wildlife. There are signs posted at every location where alligators may be hanging out.
  • Bring bug spray, as the marsh environment is a breeding ground for bugs of all kinds.
  • When you arrive, you will need to check in with security and receive a parking permit for the duration of your stay. This will help you enter and exit the island without issue.
  • Booking your rental ahead of time is key.
  • There are no lifeguards on the beach. Come prepared with life jackets for children if they need them.

Fripp Island Golf & Beach Resort far exceeded our expectations. It’s a place where kids can connect with nature, parents can relax, and families can make genuine, lasting memories. Whether you’re spotting deer, walking through the marsh, or splashing in a waterfall pool, Fripp makes magic happen.

You Can Ride a Zip Line and Hillside Slide at the Brand New Gracely Park in Simpsonville, SC

Simpsonville City Park is now the brand-new Gracely Park! The park opened over Thanksgiving break in 2024 and is a wonderful upgrade to the former park. Find out what all we explored and loved.

Gracely Park in Simpsonville, SC

The brand-new park currently offers a great shade/sun playground that features woodland themes throughout. You’ll have a blast exploring and finding hidden forest creatures built into the play structures.

Top Attractions at the Playground

After checking out the zip line, which features two tracks (one of which has a seat-style chair), we headed straight to the park’s most popular feature, the hillside slide. But this isn’t just any slide, it is a slide that is made up of rotating cylinder tubes that gently move your kids down the hillside, giving them a little jiggle as they go. My toddler and five-year-old loved it, and there was a consistent stream of kids going down it throughout our visit.

At the park, there are two play structures, one for toddler ages and one for big kids. The structures have some pretty unique features, including an interactive rotating sand toy (hourglass style) in the toddler section that my toddler couldn’t get enough of. The big kid play area had a couple of fantastic additions, including a periscope that works, and a rope bridge that is the perfect balance of challenging for the kid and not too scary for the parents watching.

You’ll also find swings, a hillside made of turf for climbing and sliding, and additional play equipment to explore during your visit.

What is new for Gracely Park in 2025

The playground has a misting station that is wonderful for cooling off during the summer. There are also basketball courts, restrooms, several quality picnic shelters to choose from, and large green spaces that are perfect for relaxing.

You Have to Try the Dubai Chocolate Inspired Treats at The Crêperia in Greer!

Posted on |

Are you looking for a cute and welcoming cafe that has savory and sweet crepes, delicious coffee or matcha, and maybe even a scoop of ice cream? The Creperia off of Hudson Road in Greer is the place! We visited the cafe (several times, it’s so good!) and tried a few of the items on their menu, including their delicious Dubai chocolate bars.

The Creperia in Greer, SC

Savory of Sweet? The Crêperia Crepes

Many of us are accustomed to the sweet crepes you may find at breakfast spots around town, but The Creperia takes crepes to another level of deliciousness. They have several options for sweet crepes, including Kit Kat and Lotus Biscoff, both of which are delightful. You can top them with strawberries or bananas, and they come in half and whole sizes. My husband and I sometimes like to split one of these decadent crepes over coffee when the kids are at their Nana’s house.

Looking for something less sweet? Their savory crepe selection is a great option for lunch. Their menu has savory crepes like egg and cheese, turkey and bacon, and my personal favorite, the Gyro. Getting a Gyro in crepe form is very different from the typical pita bread, but I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked it and how flavorful it is.  Savory crepes are between $6 and $7 for a half, and up to $12 for a full crepe.

Lotus Crepe, The Creperia

Dubai Chocolate Bars and Treats

TikTok has set off the Dubai chocolate bar trend, and several places in the area have risen to the challenge by offering their take on the delicious and decadent chocolate bar. If you do not know what they are, these chocolate bars are a combination of solid milk chocolate on the outside, and a creamy/crunchy mixture of pistachio or biscoff with knafeh on the inside. We really enjoyed the Dubai chocolate bar options that The Creperia offers, some of the best we have tried!

They have a couple of different flavors to choose from, including the traditional pistachio, Lotus Biscoff, and cookies and creme. The chocolate bar is fantastic! Creamy, decadent, and we probably ate the entire bar within a few minutes. The bars are perfect for a gift or special dessert, and my husband has brought home a few for us to enjoy after the kids go to bed.

Dubai chocolate bars are $10 per bar. They also have several Dubai chocolate inspired treats, like the Dubai chocolate latte’s and the new Dubai chocolate pistachio strawberry cup with pistachio-almond ice cream! I know what my next treat will be. Yum!

Dubai Chocolate Bar from The Creperia

Coffee and Ice Cream

Not only does The Creperia offer some unique options for crepes, they also have delicious coffee. You can get many of the traditional espresso drinks, seasonal specials, matcha, and lattes. They even have a Dubai Chocolate pistachio latte.

If you’re looking for something a little healthier and not caffeine related, they also have smoothies, including banana, strawberry, and a “festive blend” of fruits.

Have a kid who loves ice cream (or craving some yourself)? They have several flavors to choose from, and you can get a scoop or two in a waffle cone. You can enjoy their ice cream in milkshake form as well.

Things to Remember Before a Swamp Rabbits Game

  • The Bon Secours Wellness Arena has a clear bag policy.
  • Arriving early to the game is a good idea so you can grab any food, drinks, or participate in any pregame activities before finding your seat.
  • Parking in the parking garages can cause a headache at the end of the game. We recommend uses the lots around the arena, or parking in a garage a little further out to avoid the gridlock. You can find lots in our Guide to Parking in Downtown Greenville.
  • Younger kids will benefit from headphones, as the arena (and the fans) can get loud.
  • Be prepared to end up on the big camera! Just in case. The arena cameraman regularly surfs the crowd during intermissions.
  • Have fun! Even if you have never been to a hockey game, it is a lot of fun. You’ll be a fan by the end of the night.
