Which restaurant do you think offers the best brunch in Greenville, SC?
They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and if that’s true, then you can’t afford to miss Eggs Up Grill! What started as one restaurant in coastal South Carolina has grown to a statewide chain and beyond—and for good reason. They’re open early, every day of the week, and serving up some of the best food and atmosphere for families across the Upstate.
Read on as local mom, Sarah Burnett, shares why Eggs Up Grill has become one of her family’s favorites!
Eggs Up Grill: At-A-Glance
🗓️ Open 7 days a week ⏰ Early Hours = WIN for early risers! 🧹 Consistently clean establishment 🍳 Delicious breakfast & lunch options 😃 Friendly, fun, and hardworking staff
Open Early, Every Day, Everywhere!
I don’t know about you, but our kids wake up early. They are usually up and hungry before we are even fully awake! Sometimes we just need someone else to bake the pancakes and pour the coffee, and on those days, we’re thankful to know exactly where to go: Eggs Up Grill.
They are open early, every day of the week. A lot of breakfast spots cater towards those who can afford to take their morning slowly, and they may not open until 9am or even later. But parents of little ones know what I’m talking about: We don’t have that luxury. Eggs Up Grill opens their doors at 6am every day of the week. Now that’s what I’m talking about!
Most locations stay open until 2pm or later, which means slow risers and early risers alike are able to enjoy their delicious breakfast, brunch, and lunch options. And closing by mid-afternoon gives every person on their team the chance to have real work-life balance, which means their staff are some of the happiest people I’ve ever seen when I’m walking through those doors even on days before the sun’s come up!
Spotlight: Eggs Up Grill in Moore, SC
Eggs Up Grill started as a single restaurant on the South Carolina coast, but it has grown to offer 30 locations statewide and even more across our borders. I’ve been to a few across the Upstate and never had a bad experience, but I’ll paint a picture for what you can expect using our family’s go-to place: Eggs Up Grill in Moore, SC.
Firstly, the doors really are unlocked at 6 am! The restaurant is bathed in morning light, with wall-to-wall windows on every side where they can have them. They can roll down the shades anytime the sun gets harsh, but there is just something refreshing about starting your day dining in the fullness of that natural light.
The next thing I always notice, and always appreciate as a mom, is that the entire establishment is consistently clean. No matter what time we visit, whether it’s right when they open or during a lunch rush, I’ve never seen it in a state of neglect. Let’s be real: Kids are messy, and a lot of places catering to kids end up the same way. But not Eggs Up Grill. They offer a beautifully casual, family-friendly atmosphere that is maintained to a refreshing standard of excellence.
We’re at the point that we have a favorite booth, so I have started just making a beeline towards it. Someone always sees me carrying my baby as soon as I walk through the door, and we’re met with a high chair at the table in seconds. No matter the server, they always greet our children with a big smile and hand them the kids’ menus with crayons.
And my favorite part? They work fast! As soon as we’re ready to order, they’re ready to take it. Our drinks are out before we know it, and the food never takes more than a few minutes. Parents of little ones, I know you can imagine how much our family appreciates that!
Bites We Love: Mocha, Muffins, and More!
The food at Eggs Up Grill is fantastic. No matter which location we visit, we get a guaranteed good meal. You can check their menu online for pictures and prices, but I’ll go ahead and let you know a few of our favorites!
My husband is a former barista and loves their smooth, chocolatey Mocha Cold Brew. I’m all about pancakes, and the ones at Eggs Up Grill are consistently golden and delicious. The Crème Brulee French Toast is pure magic—topped with custard, drizzled in caramel, and completely indulgent! For our fruit-loving kids, we always order both their fresh fruit and one of their Grilled Blueberry Muffins to split. If you’ve never had it, the Grilled Blueberry Muffin is an easy add-on and totally worth tasting!
We’ve had some of our best family breakfasts at Eggs Up Grill lately, and it has really become one of our family favorites. They also serve some great lunch options, including burgers, melts, salads, and seasonal menu items.
Locations in Greenville & Spartanburg
If you have any doubt about how good this food is, just look at how many locations they’ve opened across the Upstate! Eggs Up Grill is growing for a reason, and we’re so glad there are so many places we can find them.
Parenting can feel like a whirlwind, but Eggs Up Grill offers a welcome respite—clean tables, friendly faces, and hot food that your family will truly enjoy. That kind of consistency and kindness goes a long way when you’ve got little ones in tow, and a visit to Eggs Up Grill is a great way to make some mornings just a little easier.
Have you heard of Famoda Farm in Tigerville, SC? We just had the most amazing afternoon visiting the farm, enjoying delicious ice cream, and hanging out with baby goats! The cows, donkeys, bunnies, and sheep joined us at the fence to visit, and we even picked up some fresh milk to bring home.
This is a special place, I mean like turn a “grumpy preteen” day into a “sunshine-filled happy day” kind of place. Do you know how rare that is? It’s awesome, which means we’re telling you all about Famoda Farm so you can plan your visit.
Arriving at Famoda Farm
The entrance to Famoda Farms is a gravel driveway with pasture on either side. Just plug the address into your GPS and look for the signs. Even my preteens and teenage kids were stoked to see the cows in the pasture as we drove in. You think it’s cute when little kids love animals. Well, hearing “Aw, there are cows! Hi Cows!” will melt your heart when it comes out of the mouth of a fourteen-year-old boy, too.
In search of the perfect summer day trip to escape the summer heat? Sierra Nevada Brewery in Asheville is a hot spot to escape the summer heat and perhaps enjoy a cold beverage too. Kristina recently visited this brewery and shares the scoop on why so many locals flock there!
One of the cities with the most breweries per person is Asheville, just an hour from our lovely town of Greenville. So the options are many when it comes to enjoying a cold brew and leisurely hanging out with family and friends at a brewery. I’m here to tell you the Sierra Nevada Brewery, right outside of Asheville, is about to become your new favorite brewery (if it wasn’t already).

About Sierra Nevada Brewery
On a gorgeous summer day, after a morning of hiking, a beer was in order. Sierra Nevada has been a favorite brewery of mine for a while (hello, Kellerweiss and Porter!) because they not only make excellent beer, but it’s totally affordable as well. I had heard the rumors that the brewery was incredible, and I needed to see it for myself.
To say I was floored would be an understatement. This place is stunning. From the pavers in the ample parking lot to the aesthetics of the taproom and brewery to the garden full of sunflowers, tomatoes, and basil, Sierra Nevada Brewery is gorgeous – and fun!
Since we didn’t have a reservation for a tour (more on that in a bit), we headed right for the taproom, a cavernous space of tables with barstools and high tops. Of course, a bar offering all of the brewery’s signature beers on tap was at the center.
We opted to head outside, where there awaited us were welcoming tables, rocking chairs, Adirondack chairs, a large green space, gardens, cornhole games, and an outdoor beer bar.
Yes, please!
Dining Options
You have a few options when it comes to dining or enjoying a beer at the Sierra Nevada Brewery. First, you can be seated at the dining room for table service. This is where the majority of the food is available. But, it’s also where, on a busy Saturday, you will wait a while for a table.
As you enter the taproom, if you do not want to dine in, bypass this line and head to the right. You’ll see a sign for the beer line. Here’s my tip- skip this one. Upstairs, there is another bar with the same offerings. We found there was no line up there!
You can also purchase your favorite beer or hard kombucha at the Back Porch, which is also another place where you can order some food. The Back Porch offers some snacks like nachos and a few other items like hot dogs and salads.
Sierra Nevada Brewery is Kid-Friendly
On the way to grab a Southern Summer Saison, I noticed an enclosed playground with sand tables, a sandbox, a chalkboard, a picnic table, and an umbrella stand. This place thought of it all. There is also a huge green space by the stage, where lots of kids were running and playing.
Sierra Nevada offers a full menu of delectable items inside their tap room dining room and a smaller menu for their outdoor bar. Think huge bar pretzels with mustard, wood-fired pizza, and bison hog dogs with pale ale chili.
Lower Park
If you go to the left of the stage and walk about a quarter mile down a beautiful trail, you’ll come to the secret Lower Park at the brewery. This is a beautifully shaded area with hammocks, lawn games, snacks and beer for sale, and picnic tables.
This area was hard hit by Hurricane Helene, and the French Broad River flooded it badly. You can see the water line, and it’s probably about 40 feet up one of the trees. But the brewery cleaned it up and reopened it in June 2025. I feel like it’s even better than before! When I visited that month, that’s where my kids and I hung out the most because it’s just so peaceful and fun. We played all the lawn games and relaxed in the hammocks.
The Lower Park is open Saturdays and Sundays, 1-6 pm, weather permitting.

Games + Music at Sierra Nevada Brewery
My family and I grabbed our beers and strolled through the garden, admiring the gorgeous flowers and vegetable garden. We took up a game of cornhole for a while, which was awesome. It’s really fun to play the game while drinking good beer in the garden of Sierra Nevada Brewery.
By the time we were done, the band was about to take the stage, so we hung out in the shade and relaxed to the tunes of great music. Before we left for the day, we had to check out the “high gravity” beer section upstairs, which had even more tables and rocking chairs, and indoor cornhole games. It was a work of art and overlooked the entire outdoor area, main stage, and gardens.
What a view.
Sierra Nevada Brewery Tours
So apparently these tours are crazy popular. We weren’t able to get a reservation for when we wanted to go so I have to go back. Obviously.
The Brewhouse Tour is a 45-minute tour for persons 12+ years and includes a tour of the brewery and four beer samples. This one costs $12.10 per person.
Sierra Nevada is an ideal destination for a family outing, a day date, or a place to go chill after hiking or a trip near Asheville. As the brewery will remind you, please drink responsibly.
There’s no better way to soak up summer than with a scoop of ice cream and a handful of fresh-picked sunflowers, and that’s exactly how we spent National Ice Cream Day at Looking Glass Creamery in Columbus, NC.
We timed our visit for the final day of their Sunflower DAZE u-pick event and made our way to the farm on 115 Harmon Dairy Lane, just off Hwy 9. The deal was simple: make any purchase at the creamery and enjoy free access to pick sunflowers in their blooming, no-spray field.
First Impressions of Looking Glass Creamery
As we wound our way up the quiet country road, a directional sign pointed us toward the Creamery and Farm Store. The property immediately impressed with its wide-open fields, mountain views in the distance, and goats sunbathing near the patio. A thoughtful bonus: free cold water available on the porch for thirsty visitors venturing into the fields.
Inside the store, a kind and knowledgeable staffer walked us through the menu, which included:
Grilled cheeses with gourmet flair (the bacon jam version caught our eye)
Charcuterie boards that showcase the creamery’s house-made cheeses
Ice cream in rotating, creative flavors like Key Lime Pie (with real pie crust!), Chocolate Pear, Rum Raisin, Bubble Gum, Salted Caramel, Ginger Miso Honey (soy based), and more
If you’re craving their Blueberry Basil, order it early. It was sold out by the time we arrived in the afternoon.
What We Tried
We chose the Key Lime Pie and Chocolate Pear ice creams. Both were refreshing, full of flavor, and just the right amount of indulgent. The Key Lime had a tart creaminess and surprise bites of buttery crust, while the Chocolate Pear was smooth and subtly sweet. We enjoyed our scoops out on the scenic back patio, surrounded by buzzing bees, fluttering butterflies, and a very relaxed goat crew nearby.
Sunflower Stroll
After finishing our treats, we followed a path down to the sunflower field. Visitors are invited to bring clippers and buckets to cut their own blooms from the six-acre field dedicated to sunflowers and seasonal crops. Sunflowers are from late June through mid-July.
While the main path offers plenty of easy picking, we recommend pants if you’re venturing off into the more overgrown parts of the field. Either way, it’s a sun-filled experience with sunflowers as far as the eye can see.
It’s such a thoughtful and generous gesture from the owners to offer this free experience to guests. It’s even more meaningful knowing the flowers are grown without sprays. A beautiful, bee and pollinator-friendly field, and you can tell they absolutely love it!

Final Scoop
Just 30 minutes from Spartanburg and under an hour from Greenville, Looking Glass Creamery is an ideal destination for a family day trip. With hand-crafted ice cream, sustainable farming, scenic views, and friendly animals, it’s the kind of place where summer memories are made.
Beyond the ice cream and views, Looking Glass is a true farmstead creamery. This means their cheeses are made on-site using milk from their own cows. From fresh spreads to aged wheels, everything is crafted with care. Cheeses are meant to be enjoyed on a board or brought home to savor.
We’ll definitely be back! Next time earlier in the day to try and get my hands on a Blueberry Basil scoop, a bacon jam grilled cheese, and maybe even a root beer float or charcuterie board on the patio.
Hours: Thursday through Saturday from 11 AM to 5 PM Sundays from noon to 5 PM. Note: If you’re planning to enjoy a grilled cheese or cheese board, be sure to arrive before 4:30 PM. That’s when they stop taking food orders.
There are pancake houses, and then there’s John’s. Located on Spartanburg’s eastside, John’s Cafe & Catering is where pancake dreams come true—served hot, fluffy, and bigger than your average dinner plate!
It’s no exaggeration to say this family-owned spot serves up some of the best breakfast in Spartanburg County. With loyal regulars, that small town feel, and food that hits all the right notes, it’s easy to see why this place is beloved…and growing! That’s right, John’s will be opening a second location in Chesnee, SC by the end of 2025.

The Pancake Place That Knows Your Name
When you walk into John’s Café & Catering, you’ll be greeted by the same smiling faces. This is a family-owned and operated establishment, and I have yet to meet a less than delightful member of their team. There are always regulars coming in and out who are greeted by name, and it’s clear this isn’t just a workplace: It’s part of the community.
The owner is John Linder, a local from Cannon’s Campground who turned a lifetime of cooking with family into a full-fledged culinary career. Summer kitchen jobs turned into full-time work as a chef at different restaurants around the Upstate, and before long, he came home to build John’s Cafe & Catering from the ground up. The restaurant has been successful since opening in 1995, and they’re now celebrating 30 years as one of the best breakfast spots around!
The dining room when you first enter has that cozy, time-honored southern feel, with memorabilia and personal touches—including nods to the owner’s culinary journey, family photos, and even a little local history. It’s the kind of place where kids are welcome, regulars gather at “their” table, and newcomers are greeted like old friends.
This main dining room is totally screen-free, with no distracting televisions for those who want to enjoy a quiet meal with their kids. There is an additional dining room in the back with a TV for those who want to catch up on the news or watch a game while enjoying their coffee! This room is also a great for larger groups who may need multiple tables but still want to talk together in the same space. An outdoor dining area is also available, weather permitting, on Saturdays.
Best Breakfast in Town? You decide.
Dinner is served on Thursdays and Fridays when John’s Café is open later, and those are definitely worth checking out. Their sandwiches, wraps, and Make-A-Plate options with several country favorites for side dishes are delicious. But I’ll be honest, it’s their breakfast that keeps me coming back again and again! John’s opens at 6:30am, Monday through Saturday, so they are always ready to feed us when my kids wake up ready to eat!
Pro-Tip: We’ve never had a wait when we go to eat on weekday mornings, but John’s Cafe & Catering is only open a few hours on Saturdays and closed Sundays—so be prepared for a short wait (usually 15-20 minutes) if you decide to check them out on Saturday morning!
I’ve tried breakfast at places across the Upstate, but no one does pancakes quite like John’s. Their pancakes are huge—think frisbee-sized, thick and fluffy with golden insides that just soak up the syrup or honey. Just one of these beauties is plenty for your average grown-up, and my kids can usually split one or go for a stack of the kid-sized ones.
And I know my kids are not the only ones obsessed with fruit. Well, you’ll be glad to hear that John’s fruit cups are some of the best we’ve ever had! They’re not just afterthought here, but a generously portioned bowl of variety: Our most recent helping included cantaloupe, pineapple, watermelon, strawberries, grapes!
Pair that with their perfectly crispy bacon (don’t come at me, all you chewy-bacon lovers) and a mug of a hot coffee—and you’ve got a breakfast that’s simple, satisfying, and full of flavor! Plus, consider some of their delicious natural honey in your coffee in lieu of the usual sweeteners—it is so good and good for you!
Looking Ahead: New Location in Chesnee
John’s Cafe announced that a second location is officially in the works in Chesnee, SC, and is expected to open by the end of the year! They’re currently hiring for all positions, so if you’re looking for a job with a close-knit team and plenty of community love, now’s your chance to join a place that keeps people coming back.
We’ll update this story when the Chesnee location opens, but in the meantime, it’s worth heading to Spartanburg to taste the pancakes that started it all.

Father-Son Team with Family Values
When Will Coates was just a teenager, he started talking about his own pizza restaurant. His dad, Stewart Coates, remembers those early conversations. Stewart has a background in the food business, having served Spartanburg County already as a Zaxby’s licensee for many years. After Will graduated from university in 2023, they knew they were ready to work together and turn Will’s vision into a reality.
After researching franchises and tasting all the options (the best kind of research), Will found his perfect match in Blaze Pizza. He loved the freshness and the flavor, and even more than that, he loved the chain’s commitment to a family-friendly dining experience. Caring for the community is top priority for the Coates family, and it shows in every aspect of this new restaurant.
Stewart Coates, left, and Will Coates, right, are the father-son duo behind Blaze Pizza in Boiling Springs, SC.
They chose to plant this business in the heart of Boiling Springs, right next door to the Boiling Springs Library. This location is easily accessible for families in the area and makes for a great place to grab a bite and enjoy any of the library’s frequent and free programs.
Both indoor and outdoor dining options are available, with shade umbrellas outside, so families can sit down together in any kind of weather. They also have options for carryout, curbside, and third-party delivery, ensuring convenience for families on the go. And families will be glad to know that the whole restaurant is refreshingly clean—including the single-use restrooms for men and women!
Customers will also have the option to round up their purchases for Folds of Honor, an organization offering scholarships for families of United States military service members. This cause is especially personal to the Coates family, as Will’s younger brother just graduated from The Citadel to join the military. The family has already given $10,000 to this charity themselves, and hope their customers will join them in supporting other military families.
Guaranteed Freshness and Stand-Out Flavors

You can also order a 1/2 Pie in-store, which is the perfect size for kids, or a 14-inch Large Pie online only. Then choose from one of their Signature Pizzas or Build-Your-Own using their 40+ fresh topping options!
We got to visit Blaze Pizza in Boiling Springs, SC right before their grand opening and try some of their stand-out flavors! We asked for their top picks and loved every bite:
🍕 Will’s Go-To: Pepperoni & Jalapeños This pizza had just the right kick! The pepperoni curled and crisped up at the edges, and the jalapeños added enough heat to make each bite exciting without overwhelming the flavor. My husband loved it, and I may have snuck a bite or two off his plate!
🍕 Stewart’s Pick: Ham & Pineapple Pineapple-on-pizza people, you know who you are! This combo offers the most delicious sweet-and-salty balance. The ham was so flavorful, the pineapple was fresh, and I’m with Stewart on this one—it’s definitely my favorite and I’m sure to order it again!
🍕 King of Color: The Herbivore Pizza This hands-down is the most colorful pizza on the menu, and it tastes just as good as it looks! This cheese pizza is piled high with brilliant banana peppers, perfectly ripe tomatoes, mushrooms, garlic, an olive oil drizzle, and a final flourish of arugula. I could seriously taste every ingredient in every bite, and they blended together perfectly. Highly recommend this one for an elevated experience!
Every single one of their Signature Pizzas looked positively mouth-watering, and their Build-Your-Own toppings bar guarantees you’ll find the perfect flavor to suit your individual tastes! They might have even mentioned something about a Red Vines Pizza? Yum!
Plus, don’t miss the Fast Fire’d Folds, cheesy bread, meatballs, and salads on the menu. Those bonus options make it easy to mix up your meal every time you visit—because, let’s be real, I’ve got the feeling we’re going to be frequent flyers at this awesome new eatery!

It’s no secret that custom decorated sugar cookies are works of art and can wow any crowd. They’re not just regular cookies—they’re cool cookies.
Painstakingly decorated by hand, these cookies take time, patience, and talent to produce. Hand-cut out of sugar cookie dough and decorated with royal icing, these cookies can even be frozen if you need to hold on to them for a bit before giving them out.
And we can’t think of a better way to wow your guests or cookie recipient.
We talked with a local cookie artisan Kate Risher of Wild Blueberry Bakeshop, to find out why she does what she does.
KA: Kate, How did you get started?
Kate: I started decorating cookies in 2013. For some reason I decided to try and make royal icing decorated cookies for a camping trip we were taking with friends in the summer. I think I might have seen them on Pinterest which was super popular around that time. I had always enjoyed baking and art, so figured why not? Put a picture of those cookies up on Facebook and the caption read “I could get addicted to this!” And we now know that definitely happened! At the time, I was still a chemical engineer working at a plant in Spartanburg. I made cookies for friends and family, and sold a few to co-workers, but nothing too crazy. When my son was born in February 2016, I decided to be a stay-at-home mom. In September 2016, I decided to officially start my business. I’ve steadily grown since then and have loved every minute of it.

KA: What’s your favorite part of making these little works of art?
Kate: I love seeing people’s faces when they see their cookies! As far as the process, my favorite part is adding all the details and seeing the set come together
KA: What would someone be surprised to know about you or your business?
Kate: I think most people are surprised that I am actually a chemical engineer by trade and am completely self-taught.
Erin is absolutely amazing! I always use her for any cookie needs! She’s made cookies for me for birthdays, wedding showers, employee appreciation, and bachelorette parties!
Lesley is awesome!!! We have used her for all of our Birthdays for the last 3 years!!! Will not use anyone else for custom creations!! Not only is her work BEAUTIFUL, it’s also soooooo delicious!!!
Jelly Bakes Designs! She is awesome and also does take home kits every once in a while. She also does dog treats! Gluten free is also an option from her.
She is phenomenal always creates the best designs to go with whatever theme I throw her way, pretty sure it’s everyone’s favorite thing to take home from out birthday parties!!!
Consider these little pieces of art for your next event or just to show someone you care. Better yet, treat yourself! Whatever the occasion, remember that they are meant to be eaten, so don’t feel bad for taking a bite out of one of them.
