When I say “authentic Chinese food,” I’m talking about the kind of authentic food you find in big cities like Chicago, DC, and New York. The cool thing is that plenty of restaurants offer authentic Chinese food near me. In fact, before embarking on my search for the best Chinese food near Greenville, SC, I was blissfully unaware of how many great options we have in this area. I’m willing to bet you’ve passed one or two of these places, too.

So we set out to find the best Chinese food in Greenville, SC, and even surveyed some of our readers for their top choices. The result? A long list of the top Chinese restaurants in Greenville.

Asia Pacific Restaurant & Supermarket

Asia Pacific Restaurant & Supermarket is the only place in the Upstate that I’m aware of serving authentic Chinese cuisine. That means no glossy orange chicken and no crab rangoon. But everything they offer on the menu more than makes up for the lack of Americanized Chinese cuisine you can find everywhere else.

Can you think of any place else locally where you can select a live fish from a tank and ask for it to be cooked to your liking? The best way to experience dining here is with a large group eating family-style. Alva, the owner, has a huge table set in the dining area just for that! Everyone orders up a dish from the menu and shares, it’ll be better than any buffet you’ll find anywhere, plus there will be leftovers to take home. One of my favorite dishes right now is glass noodles with roast pork. There are so many delicious things on the menu, though, and while they don’t have a kid’s menu, there are kid-friendly dishes.

You can dine-in or place a to-go order and browse the store while you wait. You don’t take my word for it, though; it was also the most mentioned Chinese restaurant when we asked readers on social media!

Asia Pacific for their salt and pepper (anything)… I usually get the squid version 🤤 really everything on the menu is amazing AND fresh!

For authentic dishes, the ONLY one in GVL is Asia Pacific. The rest of Chinese restaurants here are American Chinese style. Miss all the authentic Chinese dishes they have in the North! We need more authentic Asian restaurants here! Enough Mexican restaurants around?

The Chinese restaurant offers both authentic Chinese-Wok food, as well as Japanese-Hibachi options. They boast of using fresh ingredients, including top-grade USDA choice meats. They also prepare their sauces daily to continue their promise of using only fresh ingredients. Oriental House doesn’t even used canned food!

Their Mongolian Beef is sliced thin with scallions and onions in their Oriental House Mongolian sauce. My favorite, General Tsu’s Chicken, is sautéed with celery, carrots, and onions in a special sweet and spicy sauce. If you prefer Lo Mein, Oriental House has several options, including vegetable, beef, chicken, shrimp, and more.

They even have a Kid’s Meal menu with Chinese food options and Chicken Nuggets for the little ones who prefer something else.

Shanghai Tokyo in Five Forks! For Americanized Chinese food, that is. We’ve been regulars since we moved to the area 12 years ago. Best wonton soup, and the mu shu pork is addictive! My son loves their boneless ribs, and it saves us the hassle of having to cut the meat of the bones for him. My dad thinks they have the best shrimp and lobster sauce he’s had outside of NY. They are great with special requests (like extra spicy, or sauce on the side), and my take out order has never been wrong. I can’t say that for ANY other restaurant in town.

Hunting for a great local restaurant that your family will love? Local mom Jennifer put together this list of awesome restaurants in Spartanburg to check out. This list includes hot spots downtown, family-friendly dining in Boiling Springs, and more.

Hungry? It’s a good thing you’re in Spartanburg! Our charming town is quickly becoming a foodie haven. At this point, I have lost count of all the new restaurants opening up in Spartanburg. As we all #seespartanburgrise, we also get to enjoy the perks that come from this revitalized growth like incredible restaurant options.

While my family likes chain restaurants just as much as the next family, we love eating locally. When we eat locally, we support small businesses and boost the local economy. And, we get to enjoy unique food dishes and dining experiences. Plus, when out-of-towners come to visit, we’d much rather take them to a local restaurant than to a place they can eat back home.

With that being said, I’ve prepared this list of ten of my family’s favorite local restaurants. It no way covers all the many outstanding restaurants in the county. For instance, with so many new restaurants opening in 2017 and 2018, we simply have not had the opportunity to try them all. (But, it is my stomach’s ultimate goal!)

This list is perfect for those new to Spartanburg or visitors looking for some local flavor.

Wade’s Southern Cooking

Wade’s is a local icon. You cannot live in Spartanburg without visiting Wade’s at least once. And, I highly doubt that will be your one and only visit. It has been serving Spartanburg locals Southern classics and meats and threes since 1947.

Why kids love it – Mac and cheese are considered a vegetable.

Bubba’s BBQ and Bash

If you have guests visiting, you have to feed them good ole’ Carolina barbecue at least once. With tons of barbecue options, I am going with my family’s personal favorite, Bubba’s BBQ and Bash. In addition to excellent barbecue, they also offer fall-off-the-bones ribs and baked macaroni and cheese that always leaves me craving more.

Why kids love it – Barbecue is messy and gives them an excuse to lick their fingers clean.

Taco Dog

Can’t decide between Mexican or American? Look no further than Taco Dog! Located in the Hillcrest Shopping Center, Taco Dog has been settling restaurant debates since 2003. Its unique menu offers tacos, nachos, burritos, and uniquely-topped hot dogs.

Just like the name suggests, Downtown Deli & Donuts is a downtown breakfast and lunch spot serving deli food and donuts. However, it is far more than your traditional deli or donut shop. They offer artisan donuts with unique flavors (as well as gluten-free donuts) and a lunch menu that is full of healthy and tasty salads and sandwiches.

Monsoon Noodle House

Located right in the middle of downtown, Monsoon Noodle House has a cool atmosphere and excellent food. Their noodle bowls have been satisfying Spartanburg locals since 2008. If my opinion isn’t enough for you, they’ve been voted Best of the Best Chinese Restaurants for three years now.

Mon Amie Morning Café

Mon Amie Morning Café, on the Eastside, serves savory French food for breakfast and lunch (or just dessert). The restaurant is delightful, and the food is outstanding. No matter if you visit for breakfast or lunch, you will walk away with your belly full and happy.

Why kids love it – Crepes are more fun than sandwiches.

Gerhard’s Café

Hidden inside a shopping center is one of the locals’ favorite restaurants that offers both fine dining and a pizzeria. Do not let the fine dining fool you – Gerhard’s Cafe includes a pizzeria that is great for families with more budget-friendly and kid-friendly menu options.

While they do not offer a kids’ menu and you have to pay for chips and salsa, they do offer a plain cheese quesadilla and an atmosphere that will entrance your children.

The Willow Whole Health Market: Organic Groceries & Cozy Coffee in One Stop

If you’ve ever wished for a grocery stop that felt more like visiting a neighbor than tackling a big box store, Willow Whole Health Market & Coffee Shop might be just what you’re looking for. This little shop on Locust Hill Road, tucked next to Sushi Shack in the Taylors/Greer area, offers a slower, friendlier kind of shopping — and a cozy place to sip a warm drink, too.

We stopped by recently and loved the experience.

A Tiny Market Full of Local Finds

Willow is a small shop, but every shelf is full of something fabulous. During our visit, we noticed a steady stream of regulars popping in — many heading straight for the fridge stocked with local milk, butter, and Happy Cow dairy. A few were greeted by name. It’s that kind of place.

In addition to the usual healthy staples — natural pantry goods — we found:

Local eggs and sourdough bread
Southern Oaks butter (so good!)
Frozen local meats
Jams, pickles, and grits made nearby

The market also caters to folks with food sensitivities, offering gluten-free, sugar-free, and dairy-free options throughout the store.

The space is small but bright, and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful. They answered questions, gave us tips on favorite products, and were genuinely kind — no big-store rush or pressure.

I left the shop with a loaf of local sourdough and some fresh butter from Southern Oaks dairy. Let me tell you, add a local egg, and that’s 100% a championship breakfast kind of thing right there. I’m layering on that butter like it’s cream cheese. So good.

A Quiet Spot to Sip and Stay Awhile

Toward the back of the market, you’ll find a warm little seating area and an organic coffee counter offering lattes, teas, and bakery treats. It’s relaxed and unpretentious — the kind of place you could bring your laptop or a friend and settle in.

One of us ordered a gingerbread cookie latte made with oat milk, and it hit the spot — not too sweet, with a cozy spice flavor. We also shared a cinnamon roll (definitely worth it). The coffee menu includes options for different dietary needs, and it felt good to enjoy something that didn’t come from a chain.

The back seating area has soft chairs and a laid-back vibe, perfect for quietly getting things done or just enjoying a peaceful pause in your day.

We spent about 2 hours getting some Kidding Around teamwork accomplished, and we enjoyed our time so much that we knew we had to share this spot with you! (See, we’re always looking out for our readers!)

BridgeWay Brewing Co. Menu

Let’s talk food, becuase it was delicious. There’s a full menu with appetizers, wings, salads, sandwiches, burgers, and lots more. We tried several items and they were all fabulous, especially the nachos. These were not your average nachos with a little cheese and a few toppings. They were loaded with toppings, rich and full of flavor, not to mention one of the biggest plates of nachos I’ve seen in a long, long time.

We also enjoyed a fried chicken sandwich and a bacon jam burger, both of which were perfectly cooked. My chicken was crunchy on the outside, and juicy on the inside, with just the right amount of sauce and toppings, as all excellent friend chicken sandwiches should be. Both came with fries that were nice and crispy.

Beer at BridgeWay Brewing

I am a fan of darker beer, so I picked the seasonal Winter Warmer at BridgeWay. I really enjoyed the holiday flavors, and the beer was not overly heavy, so I had plenty of room to enjoy my meal. My husband enjoyed a glass of prosecco instead of a beer.

The bar at BridgeWay is unique in that addition to the house-made beer, they offer wine, prosecco, and a full bar of spirits and craft cocktails. So no matter your preference, you’ll find something excellent that you’ll enjoy. Their taps have their beer made in-house, and in the future will also have ciders and a few other options of brews they aren’t currently able to make, like sours.

Duckpin Bowling

Just what is duck-pin bowling? It’s kind of like a miniature version of bowling. Think of a shorter lane, a much smaller ball you can hold in one hand, and every pin is connected to the alley by a string. The mechanisms in the game raise and lower each pin by its string.

You don’t need bowling shoes, you don’t need bumpers, and most importantly, you don’t need to be good at bowling to enjoy this one. I am not a good bowler, and I beat my husband in duckpin bowling. Ok? It was icing on the cake right there.

What ages will enjoy duckpin bowling at BridgeWay?

Ball control is the key here. So anyone who can roll a ball roughly down the center of a lane, avoiding gutters, can enjoy duckpin bowling. This is probably not the best activity for the very youngest of kiddos, as these lanes aren’t meant for hard-core toddler ball lobbing and thunking. So, we’d recommend this family activity for about ages 5 and up.

Bowling: How to get a lane

There are 4 duckpin bowling lanes at BridgeWay Brewing Co. You can make a reservation online, at a cost of $40 per hour or $20/half hour rental of the lane (prices may vary by time/date). You can also reserve by calling. The lane fits up to 4 people, and theirs a cozy booth with a table at the front of the lane. So, you can rent your lane, order your food and beverages, and play! Once your food comes, you can enjoy it while you take turns at the lane.

Of course, if your group is larger, you could additional lanes. The tables and lanes are side by side.

The Future of BridgeWay Brewing Co. at Bridgeway Station

Speaking of the future, BridgeWay Brewing also plans to offer birthday parties and other private parties. Located right at the front of Bridgeway Station, the brewery has a huge and gorgeous outdoor space that will be totally perfect as the weather warms up. We also noticed there were some heaters in the space, so, you likely won’t have to wait long to enjoy that area.

If you haven’t visited Bridgeway Station, it has a very upscale European feel with lots of pretty brickwork and even a waterfall into a little decorative pool. Right now, it’s all lit up with beautiful Christmas Trees and Christmas lights. So if you’re looking for a lowkey Christmas outing with the kids, go grab yourself a bowling lane, get some delicious food and drinks, and then go walk through the pretty lights.
