Visiting Farm in the Wildwood: Fresh Food, Family Values, and a Whole Lot of Heart

Posted on |

If your family loves fresh food, being outdoors, and connecting with your local community, a visit to Farm in the Wildwood is such a special experience. I recently stopped by to pick up my very first Farm CSA share for the spring season—and got to meet owner Danielle Pereira and see firsthand what makes this farm so meaningful.

From the moment you arrive, you can tell this is more than just a place to pick up vegetables. It’s about community, care for the land, and food grown the way it should be.

Farm in the Wildwood

(Thank you to Farm in the Wildwood for providing an 8-week spring share so we could try out the CSA and bring the experience to our readers!)

My First CSA Pickup

I came to Farm in the Wildwood to pick up my very first Farm CSA share as a new member for the spring season, and it did not disappoint.

My share was full of freshly harvested vegetables, all locally grown and free of pesticides. Some were grown right there at Farm in the Wildwood, and others came from local, like-minded farms and growers.

In my first box, I had some of the freshest veggies I’ve ever seen (and I like to garden, so, that’s saying something):

  • Arugula
  • Radishes
  • Lettuce
  • Spring onions
  • Oregano
  • Beet greens
  • And a welcome gift with chive seeds for my own garden at home.
Farm in the Wildwood CSA

I got home and rinsed off my arugula, sliced the radishes, and whipped up a homemade lemon vinaigrette recipe. (Do I usually make dressing from scratch? Absolutely not. But, maybe something about cooking with fresh ingredients makes you inspired to try something new? I don’t know. WORTH IT.) Our arugula and radish salad was AMAZING. While tidying up the kitchen after dinner, the family polished it off—casually plucking arugula leaves from the bowl as they passed by, like it was a bowl of popcorn.

If you’ve ever thought about joining a CSA, this is such an easy and approachable way to start.

Why Families Love This CSA

The Upstate Farmers Collective CSA is designed to make getting high-quality produce easy and flexible for busy families.

Here’s what stands out to me:

  • Multiple pickup locations: There are 9 pickup spots throughout the Upstate (plus the farm itself)
  • Flexible scheduling: Need to skip a week? You can
  • Customizable boxes: Each week, you’ll get an email with your share items and can make substitutions
  • Purchase a full membership or customize by season memberships.

When I got my first share’s weekly email, I was pleasantly surprised with the flexibility for pick up and substituting ingredients. Not a fan of kale? That’s okay—you can swap it out.

Picking up our CSA share

I think Farm in the Wildwood and the Upstate Farmers Collective have developed a really thoughtful CSA system that makes eating local doable, even with a busy family schedule.

For me, that ease is crucial. I have 4 teenagers myself, and I’m regularly moving in at least that many directions at one time. I really do want to put local, healthy food on my table, but busy schedules often make that feel nearly impossible.

Danielle knows that. She has teens of her own. So, this CSA makes eating local approachable and accessible.

Want to know more about the CSA and see pickup and purchase options? Visit the Upstate Farm Collective Website on Farm in the Wildwood. Shares start at $236 and increase based on the share size and length of season you select.

A Tour: Farm in the Wildwood

Danielle showed me all around her farm, including the gardens, fields, and hoop house tunnel.

She shared all about her dedication to growing without any pesticides and her focus on developing extremely high-quality, nutrient-rich soil. Her goal is simple: grow the tastiest and most nutritious greens and vegetables possible.

The fields with leeks at the Farm in the Wildwood

You can feel her passion for:

  • Being outside and enjoying nature
  • Growing food the way it’s meant to be grown
  • Caring for the land in a thoughtful, sustainable way
Growing things at the Farm in the Wildwood.

Her gardens are beautiful. Stunning, really. Wildflowers, shrubs, and natural spaces are intentionally left to provide habitats for beneficial insects, which help keep the gardens healthy and thriving.

She also shared her commitment to stewarding the land well—restoring areas that have been overused by previous owners and finding solutions that don’t cause harm. And fun fact: the farm has even won an award for its soil!

The Farm Stand (Open to Everyone!)

When you enter Farm in the Wildwood, you’ll park right at their farm stand—and this is something you can visit even if you’re not a CSA member.

The stand is full of both tasty and beautiful things. Everything sold here gets Danielle’s stamp of approval first. Items come from farms that share the same values—no pesticides and a focus on healthy, high-quality products.

You’ll find:

  • Local meats and dairy
  • Fresh bread and baked goods
  • Beautiful flowers
  • Items from local makers
  • Seeds used right on the farm

Plants and Nursery at the Farm Stand

Behind the farm stand, you’ll also find beautiful plants for sale. Farm in the Wildwood is a certified nursery, which makes it a great place to pick up plants for your own garden.

Danielle shared that this farm stand has brought her so much joy, especially connecting people to local food and building friendships within the community. You can really feel that energy and care when you visit.

Planning Your Visit

If you’re thinking about stopping by, here are a few helpful things to know:

  • Farm Stand address: 107 Collins Road, Piedmont, SC
  • Parking: Easy parking right at the farm stand
  • The farm stand is open Wednesday to Saturday, 9 am to 3 pm.

And if you’re able to visit the farm and stand in person, even just once, it’s absolutely worth it. You won’t be disappointed.

Explore This 110 Year-Old Covered Bridge: Campbell’s Covered Bridge

Posted on | 1 Comment

Have you been thinking about checking out Campbell’s Covered Bridge? This bridge is the last remaining covered bridge in South Carolina. At this Greenville County property, you can explore the bridge, enjoy a picnic by the creek, and even get in a short hike. Personally, this is one of my favorite destinations for a quick nature reset in the Greenville area.

Watch! Our Visit to Campbell’s Covered Bridge

Campbell’s Covered Bridge was built in 1909 by Charles Willis Irwin. Signage in the park says the bridge was named for Lafayette Campbell who owned the land at the time of its construction. Today, it is owned by Greenville County and the property has been turned into a small but lovely park.

Where is Campbell’s Covered Bridge?

171 Campbell Covered Bridge Road
Landrum, SC 29356

While the bridge address is in Landrum, it is really quite close to northern Greer and Taylors. As you pull into the main entrance of the park off Pleasant Hill Road (114) you’ll pull directly into a gravel parking lot. My GPS wanted me to turn onto a private road before I was quite to the parking lot for Campbell’s Covered Bridge. I just had to continue driving a few seconds before I saw the well-marked entrance.

As soon as you open your car door you’ll hear Beaverdam Creek and feel like you are off relaxing by a mountain creek somewhere much, much farther away. We’d had a rough morning and opening that door was like instant calm. You’ll see Campbell’s Covered Bridge from the parking lot, as it crosses the creek.

What can you do at Campbell’s Covered Bridge?

Hike the Trail

This park has a beautiful half-mile nature trail. It is unpaved and not suitable for strollers. While it is a bit hilly it is definitely walkable for little ones. You’ll walk along the creek and turn up a hill and around to a clearing on a hill with a pretty view of the bridge and some benches. The path continues on through the woods and exits at the parking lot.

Explore the Bridge and Creek

The bridge is open to walk on and you can get down to the creek from either side of the bridge. The creek is shallow and fairly wide with lots of flat rocks to sit on while you look at the water. This area is all shaded by trees making it quite cool.

Have a Picnic!

Off to the side of the bridge along the creek is the foundation from the grist mill that was located on this property. It’s fun to explore and quite picturesque. There’s a picnic table in the center of this foundation, which we thought was a pretty spectacular place for a picnic.

You’ll find other picnic tables spread around the property, as well as benches throughout the park, both in the shade by the creek and up on the hill in the sun. While there are lots of great picnic spots here, there are no restrooms, so you’ll want to plan ahead for that.

This park also doesn’t have a playground. But the kids will be entertained hunting around the banks of the creek, examining the bridge, and walking on the trail. There are also some great spots with the perfect scenery for family photos at this park.

Tip From A Reader: About 6 miles from the covered bridge, is David Jackson Park. You’ll find bathrooms and a playground at David Jackson Park. Swing by before or after your visit to the covered bridge for some playtime and a restroom!

Campbell’s Covered Bridge: Quick Review

Favorites:

  • Covered Bridge
  • Creek to explore
  • ½ Mile Nature Trail
  • Sunny spots and shady spots

Drawbacks:

  • No playground
  • No restrooms

This park is a great stop to enjoy the outdoors for an hour or so. Sure, it doesn’t have a playground, but the other unique features add some variety to a typical park day. We love this one for its woodsy feel and of course the bridge and the creek. So check it out and let us know what you love about Campbell’s Covered Bridge!

Thrifting on Wade Hampton Boulevard: Greer and Taylors, SC

Posted on |

Thrift shops can bring big deals that really help families on a tight budget. But, usually, you don’t find everything on your list at a single thrift shop, which is one of the things that makes the thrift stores in Greer to Taylors, SC corridor of Wade Hampton Boulevard such a day trip for thrifting. You can visit 6 unique thrift shops across this little 8-mile stretch of Wade Hampton Boulevard.

And that’s just what my daughter and I set out to do one Saturday morning. We spent several hours and totally checked every box on her clothing AND shoe wish list. Plus I found several cute items for myself, 3 dress shirts for my husband in a usually hard-to-find size, some shorts and t-shirts for my sons, and bonus: the cutest spring teapot ever.

thrift stores in Greer, SC

Thrift Store vs. Consignment

Usually, all of the items in a thrift store are donated to the store, and the profit the stores make benefits a specific cause. This is different than a consignment shop where you’ll still find great deals, but it’s the store and the consigner earning the profits. There’s nothing wrong with a great consignment shop, but in this story we’re focusing on the thrift stores, who they benefit, and what they offer.

At the shops in this article, in addition to good deals that help your family budget, you’ll also be helping fund job programs, fight homelessness, helping children with cancer, animals, and victims of domestic violence.

Thrifting Tips

Before we get to the shops, here are a few things to keep in mind.

  1. Every store has a slightly different way of pricing. Some store price per item, others have blanket prices for different types of items, some work with a color-coded tag system. Pay attention so you know how much you’ll be paying at the register.
  2. Take note of the day’s discounts, often posted on sandwich board-style signs by the door. You may find a specific colored tag is half-off that day, or being sold for just 50 cents. These extra savings really add up and are good to keep in mind.
  3. Going to all 6 of these shops may take you hours. Bring snacks. Consider breaking up your shopping with a coffee at Junto Coffee at the Taylors Mill, or maybe lunch in Downtown Greer. Both of these are close to these thrift shops. If you want something right on the route along Wade Hampton there’s everything from Starbucks and Panera to Chick-fil-A.

Miracle Hill Thrift Shop

14179 E Wade Hampton Boulevard
Open: 10 am to 6 pm Monday through Saturday

Beginning in Greer near Lyman, is the Miracle Hill Thrift Shop. This is a larger thrift shop with clothing for men, women, and children, plus furniture, housewares, books, and sometimes even big-ticket items like kayaks!

Prices here are marked on the rack so all pants are one price, etc, unless otherwise marked. Don’t forget to check their clearance section where all items are $1.

Clothes and items are well organized by size, but you’ll have to do some digging if you’re looking for housewares, books, etc.

This thrift shop does offer dressing rooms to try on your items before you buy!

Miracle Hill Thrift Shops benefit Miracle Hill Ministries helping homelessness.

Carolina Thrift

109 Middleton Way, Greer
Open 10 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday, 10 am to 4 pm Saturday

Benefitting animals in need, the Carolina Thrift shop offers a cozy and well-organized shop with a homey feel. They have great prices on clothing ($2 per piece), jewelry, and accessories. They have a free coffee bar for shoppers, a media room with many books, DVDs, and vinyl records for sale.

This shop is where I found my cute spring teapot among the pretty spring displays at the front of the shop. This is a great place to shop AND browse.

Think you’ll be a frequent shopper? Don’t forget to pick up a rewards punch card at the register.

Carolina Thrift Facebook

Goodwill

1333 W Wade Hampton Blvd, Greer, SC
Open: 9 am to 9 pm Monday-Saturday, 10 am to 7 pm on Sundays

The Goodwill Thrift Shop in Greer is another larger thrift shop. It benefits Goodwill programs which provide career services and help for job seekers.

You’ll find clothing, media, housewares, and more at Goodwill. Clothing is organized by small, medium, large, etc. So you’ll spend time here looking for numbered sizes in each section. Don’t forget to take note of the color tags that are on sale. We scored a nice dress shirt for my husband for 50 cents with the sale tags.

Goodwill Industries of the Upstate

Salvation Army Family Store

5152 Wade Hampton Blvd, Taylors, SC
Open: 9 am to 5:30 pm weekdays and 9 am to 5 pm on Saturdays

The Salvation Army Family Store in Taylors is a little more compact than other similar thrift shops, but it has a wide variety of clothing, shoes, and household items at great prices.

This is another shop where you’ll need to spend a little time looking at the sizes on each item within sections to find what works for you. But, it’s worth it! My daughter’s new favorite pair of boots came from this Salvation Army Family Store, and we paid just $5 for them.

Safe Harbor Resale Shop

2830 Wade Hampton Boulevard, Greenville
Open: 9 am to 5 pm Monday through Saturday

UPDATE: Safe Harbor Resale Shop is a 2026 KABOOM Awards Winner for the Best Family Resale Shop in Greenville, SC! WOW.

I think this is my new favorite thrift shop. It’s huge and extremely well organized. The displays of housewares and shoes and color-coordinated and look like an interior designer put them together. Someone puts a lot of time into the organization of this place and it makes it feel like you’re shopping in a high-end boutique, with thrift store prices, of course. It’s a fun place just to go browse.

This shop has one of the larger children’s sections with lots of clothing at great prices. We got several pairs of pants and tops for my baby nephew at about $2 per piece and everything was in great condition.

There’s also a large selection of clothing for men and women, and my daughter found several items that will work for her here. Being in that in-between tween size, finding so much for her was quite an accomplishment and we really appreciated the large selection and organized layout. You’ll find fitting rooms at the front of the store.

Don’t miss the beautiful jewelry up by the register. You’ll find unique and gorgeous earrings for just a couple of dollars a pair.

Of course, the Safe Harbor Resale Shop benefits Safe Harbor, serving victims of domestic violence in Greenville.

Sip & Stroll: Plant Stella in Downtown Greenville, SC

Posted on |

Plant Stella is one of those downtown Greenville spots that makes you slow down and smile. Whether you’re strolling through Falls Park or exploring Main Street, this little oasis is the perfect place to pause with your kids (or your teen!) and soak in something beautiful — and delicious.

Here’s what you can expect when you visit.

Plant Stella with Boba tea

Plant Stella in Downtown Greenville

📍 11 Falls Park Drive, Greenville, SC 29601
🌿 Located right by Falls Park on the Reedy — perfect for pairing with a park day!
Plant Stella Website

Full disclosure, my teenage son, Chris, had already discovered Plant Stella before we went together. He and one of his friends call it “their spot” in downtown Greenville. They love looking at all the unique plants, like venus fly traps, and grabbing boba tea or a fun Hello Kitty soda. It is, as they say, a fun place to chill. So, when we were in the area together, he was excited to stop by Plant Stella and show it to me.

The moment you step inside, it feels like you’ve left the street behind. Everywhere you look, there’s something gorgeous growing. The design is immersive and incredibly welcoming, with lush greenery surrounding you from floor to ceiling.

The calm sound of trickling water adds to the peaceful vibe. It really does feel like stepping into another world — a refreshing break from downtown.

It’s not a huge space, and the walkways are a little narrow, but that cozy layout adds to the charm. There’s so much to look at, from leafy plants to little design details tucked into every corner.

The Boba Tea: So Many Fun Options

Let’s talk about the boba — because it’s so good.

There are tons of flavor combinations, so everyone in your family can find something they love. Whether your kids like fruity, sweet, or classic tea flavors, there are plenty of options to mix and match.

Boba tea at Plant Stella

Here’s what we tried:

  • Peach green tea with popping mango boba – light, fruity, and super refreshing.
  • Kiwi green tea with cantaloupe popping pearls – teen-approved and full of fun flavor.

The popping boba is always a hit. It turns a simple drink into a fun little experience — especially for older kids and teens who love customizing their order.

A Fun Spot for Teens

If you have a teen, this is such a great downtown stop.

It feels a little more grown-up than a typical ice cream run, but still totally fun. Let them pick their own flavor combo, snap a few photos in the greenery, and enjoy a relaxed treat together. It’s an easy way to connect without it feeling forced — just a casual, cool stop during your day out.

What Families Should Know Before You Go

  • Parking: Use nearby downtown parking garages or street parking around Falls Park.
  • Restrooms: Public restrooms are available at Falls Park.
  • Space: The shop is cozy with narrow walkways, so plan accordingly during busier times.
  • Best Pairing: Grab a drink and head out for a walk through Falls Park or along the Swamp Rabbit Trail.

This is a great stop for:

  • A special after-school treat
  • A downtown day with your teen
  • A relaxed mom (or dad!) meet-up
  • Out-of-town guests who want to see something unique and local
Plant Stella

Plant Stella is such a fun, family-friendly stop right in the heart of Greenville. It’s easy to enjoy, beautiful to explore, and definitely worth adding to your next downtown adventure.

Have you been to Plant Stella yet? Tell us what your family ordered — we’re always looking for our next favorite combo! 🌿🥤

Clemson Park and Community Gardens Skatepark: Now Open in Clemson, SC!

Posted on |

If your kids (or teens!) love to skate, scooter, or ride bikes, there’s a brand-new spot in Clemson you’ll want to add to your list. The skatepark at Clemson Park and Community Gardens is officially open — and the excitement from the local community is real.

We spent some time at the new park to get the full story.

Clemson Park Skatepark

While parts of the overall park are still under construction, the skatepark and neighboring pump track are fully open and ready to ride. Here’s everything families need to know before you go.

Where Is Clemson Park and Community Gardens?

📍 Clemson Park and Community Gardens
114 Clemson Park Rd, Clemson, SC 29631

Parking at the Skatepark

The park is located behind Clemson United Methodist Church, and parking is easy and convenient.

  • Plenty of parking available
  • Located in the shared church parking lot
  • Just a short walk to the skatepark and pump track

No complicated entrances or long walks with gear — which parents will appreciate. If you enter through the chruch parking lot. just head to the back of the lot and you’ll see the park. If you enter via the Clemson Park entrance you will approach the ongoing construction. When we first approached this way, we wondered if we were in the right spot. We were. Simply drive around the construction entrance to reach the parking lot.

What’s Open Right Now?

Even though the full park isn’t finished yet, two major features are ready:

  • 🛹 Skatepark
  • 🚴 Pump track for bicycles

You’ll see ongoing landscaping work and a nearby construction zone that appears to be future facilities — restrooms and even a splash pad. Once those are complete, this is going to be an even bigger community destination.

For now, the skating action is in full swing and we loved it.

Inside the Skatepark

This is a beautiful facility, and skaters are already calling it one of their favorites.

The park includes:

  • A large bowl area
  • Park-style obstacles
  • Parking curbs for technical practice
  • A pole jam–style feature
  • A set of steps
  • A smooth spine feature
  • A manny pad for manuals and balance tricks
  • Rails and edges for grinding
  • Open areas that allow for smooth transitions

Skaters consistently mention how smooth the surface feels and how well the park “flows.” The layout makes it easy to link features together naturally.

Clemson Skatepark

All skill levels can enjoy the park. Beginners have space to practice, while more advanced skaters have plenty of technical features to challenge themselves.

Because skateparks are not abundant in the Upstate, this addition feels especially meaningful for local families and teens.

Don’t Miss the Pump Track

Right next to the skatepark is a pump track designed for bicycles and scooters, adding even more fun to your visit.

Having both spaces side by side makes this park a fantastic option for families with kids at different ability levels and interests.

Important Things to Know Before You Go

Since the surrounding facilities are still under construction, a little planning goes a long way.

No Restrooms (Yet)

There are currently no restroom facilities onsite.

Families should definitely plan ahead. We took a lunch break at Sunnyside Café (less than 10 minutes away — and delicious!) and used the facilities there. Until the future building is completed, be sure to build in a bathroom plan before you arrive.

Full Sun Exposure

The skatepark is in full sun, so come prepared:

  • Bring hats
  • Pack sunscreen
  • Bring plenty of water
  • Be mindful of hot concrete on summer days

There is very little shade at this time, so sunny afternoons will get warm quickly.

Safety First

All skating levels can enjoy this park, but:

  • Parents should keep a close eye on younger children
  • Skaters need to be aware of their surroundings
  • Watch for potential crashes or collisions

It’s a friendly, community-oriented environment, and everyone benefits when riders stay alert and respectful of one another.

Need Skate Gear?

At the skatepark, we bumped into the owner of Cruz Outdoors. Located just down the road from Clemson Park, this locally opened shop carries all kind of outdoor gear, including everything you need to skate. You’ll find them in the plaza with Moe Joe Coffee. 379 Old Greenville Highway, Clemson

A Growing Community Space

Butterfly mosaic Clemson Park

Even with construction happening nearby, the energy at Clemson Park and Community Gardens is welcoming and positive. It’s just as fun to sit and watch as it is to ride. Families gather, teens practice new tricks, and there’s a strong sense of excitement about what this space will become.

Once the landscaping is complete and the additional facilities open, this will be an even more beautiful and well-rounded spot for the Clemson community.

Skateparks aren’t common in the Upstate — and this one is already becoming a local favorite.
