Things to Do on a Sunday: Outdoor Activities

Swamp Rabbit Cafe

Swamp Rabbit Cafe is great for a relaxed Sunday. Grab a coffee, scone, and delicious stecca, and then hang out in the enclosed play area for a couple of hours while the little ones play. I’ve met some great parents here and love the relaxing feel (and good food) of the cafe. Stay for lunch and indulge in their wood-fired pizza.

  • Sunday hours: 7:30 am – 7 pm

Hiking

Put together a lunch, snacks, and drinks on Saturday night, and head out to your favorite trail on Sunday morning. Lake Conestee is great for small kids and offers paved trails. Another option is to head to Yellow Branch Falls in Walhalla for an incredible three-mile hike to a gorgeous waterfall. Or go to Table Rock State Park and do the two-mile Carrick Creek Trail for a scenic hike. There are so many trails within a couple of hours of Greenville that cater to all skill levels.

Greenville Drive

A baseball game at Fluor is a great Sunday family activity during the summer. They have an onsite playground, plus a big, grassy area for kids to run around in while you watch all the action on the field. Sunday games are often in the late afternoon, and kids can run the bases after the game. You’ll also find some excellent events throughout the year at Fluor Field that tend to run the entire weekend, Sunday included.

WNC Nature Center

Located right outside of Asheville and a little over an hour from Greenville, the WNC Nature Center is a great option for Sunday entertainment. 20 Top Ideas for Great Dates With Your Kid

Posted on | 3 Comments

Looking for some fun mom and son dates near Greenville, SC or daddy daughter dates near Greenville, SC? Whether you’re looking for a memorable outing or quality one-on-one time with your child, writer Kristina Hernandez shares 20 great date ideas. From splurge-worthy adventures to free activities, these ideas are perfect for any family and situation. Plus, we’ve included some tips to help you make the most of your special time together!

Looking for even more fun activities to enjoy in Greenville? Be sure to check out our ultimate guide to things to do in Greenville for even more great ideas for family-friendly adventures!

As soon as my daughter was old enough, as in she could maybe hold a slice of pizza and take a tentative bite, I took her on a date to my favorite pizza joint. While conversation with a three-year-old was limited, it was the time we spent together that made the difference.

As she has grown up and the concept of a “date” is slowly beginning to form in her little mind, she loves it when it’s just her and I out together or her and dad. Nurturing the child-parent relationship with dates is one of my favorite ways to spend time together – and here are some ideas to make it one of your favorite times too.

Tips for Date Time With Your Kid

Here are a few tips for maximizing this special time with your child from Kidding Around Owner Bethany Winston.

  • Don’t make the date a reward for good behavior.
Don’t let this treat be one that has to be earned. Make it a treat that they get just because you love them and want to spend time with them. The kid who constantly presses your buttons is likely the kid who also really needs your attention.
  • Put your cell phone on “Do Not Disturb”
If nothing else, it will send a clear message to your child that they are more important than your business and Facebook.
  • Do something inexpensive and simple.
Remember this outing is about taking time to just enjoy your child. Big, glitzy programs can distract you from being able to really talk and get to know each other. When the outing is inexpensive and simple, it’s also easier to repeat frequently.
  • Don’t force your kids to talk.
Sometimes it’s good just to take a break from trying to find out information from your child, and instead give them space to talk about what they want to talk about. You never know where that might lead.
  • Cater to your kid’s preferences.
Try to let your child do something that they enjoy rather than having to cater to your tastes. This might mean eating at a place that wouldn’t be your top choice or spending a half hour watching your kid climb a playground.
  • Try to incorporate moments like these into everyday life.

Places to Have a Date With Your Kid

Whether you’re planning a mother-daughter/son or daddy-daughter/son date, they can be super simple. But if you’re looking to get out and about, here are some great ideas for places you can bring your child throughout Greenville, SC!

Ice Cream Date

Because who doesn’t love going on an ice cream date? It’s inexpensive, doesn’t require a smaller child to sit still for a long time, and it can involve chocolate.

Trampoline parks

Get in a workout and have fun at our local trampoline parks Big Air and Sky Zone Greenville.

Bike Ride

This can either involve an actual bike with an older kid or the parent walking next to their child riding a bike. Go around the block a couple of times and talk with your child or go on the Swamp Rabbit Trail (or other places) together. It’s exercise and bonding.

Pedicab Ride

Take a ride on a pedicab through Greenville with Greenville Bike Taxi. We did it during the holidays but you can do it any time of the year!

The Greenville Bike Taxi is so much fun, your kids will LOVE exploring the city!

Fly through the air

Go zip lining and climb through rope courses in the air at Flying Rabbit Adventures. This would be awesome for older kids who you can do the bigger course together with.

Go see a play

I’ve taken my daughter to the South Carolina Children’s Theatre to see shows and it’s really fun. I used to go to Broadway shows in New York City with my mother when I was old enough and while Greenville isn’t NYC, it certainly has a wonderful theater community with excellent plays. And the Greenville Theatre has wonderful age-appropriate shows throughout the year.

Get Crafting

Head to ReCraft for a fun time together making new things out of old things!

ReCraft Greenville is a great place to craft with your kids!

Go to Home Depot Free Workshop Days

Home Depot has a kid workshop day every first Saturday of the month and we’ve been going for years. It’s free and you get to build something together and paint it and get all messy. It’s a blast.

Shop for Cheap Books

If your kid loves to read, make a date out of any of our area’s used book sales or the massive Book Warehouse Outlet sales.

Story Time

Libraries are worlds of imagination and creativity. I am an avid reader and my kids love books so taking one to story time is a treat. Libraries also have lots of free craft activities! There are also several storytime events throughout Greenville that your kids will enjoy.

Museums

The Upcountry History Museum always has awesome exhibits and I’ve taken my daughter to them for dates before and we always really enjoy it. They are interactive and give parents the chance to read quickly and look smart for their kids (hoping that’s not just me). The Children’s Museum of the Upstate also has tons of great workshops and exhibits.

You can visit the Greenville County Museum of Art absolutely free. They also have great events and activities on their calendar and many are free.

Roper Mountain Science Center Starry Nights

The Roper Mountain Science Center has a planetarium night every Friday evening about the stars and constellations and you get to lean back and look up at the starry night sky. It’s really neat and fun for both kids and adults.

Roper Mountain Science Center, Greenville, SC

Roper Mountain Science Center has so much to do, including Starry Nights on Fridays, that make a perfect daddy/daughter, mother/son date night!

Go shopping

I really don’t enjoy shopping but I do enjoy shopping for my kids and letting them pick out clothes or a book or a toy. I’m a big fan of some of the children’s consignment stores in the area and thrift stores like Miracle Hill and Goodwill. It’s fun to take your child and pick out a book for 50 cents or a dress for a couple of dollars.

Find a new picnic spot

Greenville has so many special little outdoor nooks that are perfect for picnics. Pack your meal or grab a to-go meal from one of your favorite restaurants. If you need tips, we’ve got you covered with ideas on how to plan the perfect picnic.

Coffee/Hot Chocolate

While your kids hopefully aren’t addicted to coffee like us crazy adults, there are tons of great little cafes in the Greenville area to grab a caffeinated beverage for you, a hot chocolate for your kid, and maybe a scone or two to share and relax while sitting on a comfy sofa or at a window overlooking Main Street.

Go Indoor Rock Climbing

This is perfect for both kids and their parents who are adventurous or want to try something new. BlockHaven, Climb@BlueRidge, and projectROCK Easley are all great options for indoor rock climbing.

Places to go rock climbing near Greenville, SC, with indoor and outdoor options!

Take a hike

With miles and miles of trails in the area, you can’t really go wrong taking a hike together. Pack a lunch and have a great day together.

Pick-Your-Own-??

During the warmer months, there are lots of great options to pick strawberries, tulips, lavender, and apples, which provides opportunities for conversation and quality time together.

Get cooking or baking

Whether in your kitchen or taking a cooking class together like this bread-making class! Learning to make delicious food together is something that your child will carry for the rest of their lives.

Painting & Creating

The TReehouse Cafe and Art Studio is one of our favorite places thanks to its relaxing yet funky and artsy vibe. You can grab a meal together and paint or create art while there. Or you can go together to one of these painting/art places around town (just call ahead of time to be sure they have space).

TReehouse Cafe Travelers Rest

TReehouse Cafe and Art Studio in Travelers Rest is a great kid’s date idea, with art projects, delicious food, and awesome decor!

Go to a game

For older kids, a great date night would be to see a baseball game at Fluor Field. Or see the Greenville hockey team, the Swamp Rabbits, play at The Well.

Farmers Markets

From downtown Greenville to Travelers Rest to Simpsonville, the summer months are filled with beautiful farmers markets where you can take a stroll with your kid through the stands, grab a scone, and pick out produce and fruit that they like. In the wintertime, hit up the Toasty Farmer Indoors Farmer Market. It’s a good opportunity for them to help choose nurturing food for you both to cook at home together.

Go mini-golfing or golfing together

Takeoff Mini-Golf next to Runway Park in Greenville is such a fun place to go mini-golfing. There’s also free mini-golfing at McPherson Park in Greenville or Sparkle City Putt Putt in Spartanburg. For older kids, Top Golf or 3’s Greenville Golf & Grill are great choices.

Run a race together

So many great races are happening this spring in the Greenville area. Some offer child races but if your kid is old enough, run a short race with them (or if they are smaller, some races allow you to run with a jogger).

Enjoy the Outdoors

Greenville is situated in such a perfect place – it’s not far from the mountains or beautiful, pristine lakes. Go kayaking or paddleboarding on a date with your kid in either a tandem kayak if they are smaller or two kayaks. Go hiking – the trails here are really fun and there are hikes for people of all ages. Or go fishing together!

Go old school

Take your child to the Upstate Pinball & Arcade Museum where you can play all kinds of old-school games together.

Celebrating Mardi Gras

Mardi Gras season is traditionally celebrated as the last hurrah before the Lenten season begins on Ash Wednesday. It’s a time filled with parades, delicious food, drinks, culture, and celebrating. The events, of course, are famous in New Orleans, Louisiana.

If you can’t make it to New Orleans, there are a few ways to celebrate here in the Upstate:

  • Bridgeway Station’s Mardi Gras: There will be a Mardi Gras celebration, food, and dance party at Bridgeway Station on February 7th, 2026 starting at 6 pm.
  • Fireforge Mardi Gras: Foreforge in downtown Greenville is hosting an all-day Mardi Gras celebration on February 14th, 2026. They’ll offer a special menu, have a six-piece jazz band playing, and have fresh baked Mardi Gras treats for you to enjoy!

You can experience Mardi Gras from New Orleans virtually! From behind-the-scenes trips to a zoo, to watching the northern lights, Mardi Gras was just one more thing you could add. Mardi Gras for Y’all is a great way to enjoy an immersive experience from the comfort of home!

If you’re planning on heading to New Orleans, be sure to check out the official Mardi Gras page for parade schedules and routes, concerts, and attractions. And of course, if you are heading to New Orleans, nothing can take the place of a mile-high pile of beignets from Morning Call Coffee Shop, or the magical bead trees in the French Quarter. On one of our trips to New Orleans, I had my children convinced that these trees, native only to NOLA, bore beaded necklaces.

Don’t Forget the Beads & Other Essential Mardi Gras Stuff!

There are a few more things that no proper Mardi Gras celebration should be without!

  • Beignets
These fried pillows of dough, covered in powdered sugar, are the trademark dessert of NOLA. One of the first things people usually ask when they hear you’ve been to the French Quarter is, “did you get beignets?” While Cafe Dumonde and Morning Call are too far away to enjoy right now, lucky for us The Lost Cajun and Sassafras Southern Bistro make delicious beignets! You can also grab a cup of Chicory Coffee during your visit to The Lost Cajun.
  • Beads
In all different colors, the beaded necklace is one of the most popular things from a NOLA celebration. The way people fight for them, you’d never know they were only worth a nickel! You can find some for your family at the local dollar stores.
  • Music
The jazz of New Orleans is like the blood life of this city! What is a party without music? Boring, right? During Mardi Gras, you can stream NOLA radio station WWOZ to listen to what they will be listening to in the heart of Mardi Gras.

And, if a downtown stroll sounds like the perfect accompaniment to a romantic dinner, check out these 5 Date Night Restaurants in Downtown Greenville.

Looking for something a little different, don’t miss our new list of Locally Sourced Restaurants in Greenville! Their menus will surely have something a little different, perfect for a special night out.

If dining in is not for you, many restaurants have expanded their options for dining to include some combination of dining room seating (with and/or without reservations), outdoor seating, take-out, contact-free curbside delivery, and/or home delivery.

Usually our date nights are centered around a special occasion. We like Saskatoon Fish and Wild Game and The Melting Pot for dinner. Both places make you slow down and enjoy the evening. You don’t feel rushed or crowded. Saskatoon requires a reservation most weekend nights.

Other Activities for Daddy-Daughter Date Night: Greenville, SC

Theatre

If you’re looking for a fancy outing with a younger daughter, you might enjoy a SC Children’s Theatre performance of The Rainbow Fish from January 24th to February 8th, 2026, or The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe from February 7th through February 22nd, 2026! And our Things to do with Teens in Greenville guide may help if you have a teen daughter. This is a great way to get dressed up, catch a theatre show, and head to dinner downtown together.

Fun Playtime Together

Of course, the old standbys such as mini golf, bowling, and hiking can provide a lot of fun memories. Consider asking your daughter to pick an activity; she will likely have a great idea. You can also head to TReehouse Cafe to paint together or Color Clay Cafe (Family Saturday deals!), which is just a lovely way to spend time together. My daughter really loves going on Go-karting dates to Frankies Fun Park with her dad; it’s something she looks forward to. There are also fun arcades nearby that they will love! Quality time is what you make of it.

Dinner Date

Check out our Kids Eat Free options for a treat. You can also check out a local coffee shop; we really like Third Place Coffeehouse for the vibes, to grab a hot chocolate together after dinner. A relaxed dinner date paired with some kid-friendly restaurants might be your best bet with younger kids. If you’re looking for restaurants that are a little more upscale but still have kid-friendly fare, Southern Culture and Tupelo Honey offer southern food that even picky eaters will enjoy. And Grill Marks’ combo of hamburgers and milkshakes is sure to be a crowd-pleaser.

No matter what activity or dinner option you choose, you can create a priceless memory with your daughter by asking to spend time with her. It’s a tradition that can happen far more often than just around Valentine’s Day each year.

Do you know of a great Daddy Daughter Date idea that we should add to our list?

Learning Opportunities for Teens in the Upstate

Posted on |

Ready or not, your teenager is heading out into the real world soon! Fortunately, the Upstate provides educational things to do for teens all year long outside of the general education classroom. If your teen is interested in a career in science, government, or the arts, there are several local options for them to gain experience.

General Learning Experiences in the Upstate

The Upstate is home to multiple museums that offer teenagers the chance to learn more in-depth information and opportunities to volunteer for a behind-the-scenes look at what these museums and centers offer. For example, Roper Mountain Science Center offers volunteer and intern opportunities for teenagers. Plus, places like the Spartanburg History Museum offer summer camps just for teens.

Learning Opportunities Galore at the Library

The first place to begin searching for learning opportunities for your teen is the local library. Spartanburg County Public Libraries offer educational programs for teens (how to get a job, test prep courses, etc.), volunteer programs, and internship opportunities.

summer reading

Plus, the Headquarters Library has SPARKspace, a public makerspace with librarians who will teach your teen everything from 3D printing to sewing. Greenville County Public Libraries also offer teen programs and homeschool programs.

Life Skills and Career Preparation Opportunities

If your teen has not decided on a career path, look for learning opportunities that open the doors to multiple careers and teach life skills. For example, the Benjamin Franklin Experience in Greenville is a summer program designed to help teens consider different careers.

If you are looking for leadership experience, there are several options. Both the Spartanburg Parks and Greenville Parks systems offer different teen leadership and scholastic programs.  The YMCA of Greenville hosts SC Youth in Government. Additionally, teens can become a part of Junior Achievement of Upstate South Carolina.

Test Preparation

For those parents looking for test preparation courses, consider Sylvan Learning Centers, which has locations throughout the Upstate. Sylvan offers test prep courses all year, but they also offer a variety of STEM courses and camps during the summer.

Lifeguard and Boater Certification

Teenagers wanting lifeguard certification can take a course at their local YMCA. If your teenager wants to earn his/her boater certification, you can find information about the process here. In South Carolina, those under 16 years of age are legally required to pass a boating education course before operating a personal watercraft (including jet skis).

Teens

Language Learning Opportunities

German School Upstate offers classes in Spartanburg (Spartanburg Day School) and Greenville (Shannon Forest Christian School). Additionally, Spartanburg Country libraries has a teen program called “Language Learning Teens.”

Learning About Animals

Teens interested in animals can volunteer at either the Greenville Humane Society or the Spartanburg Humane Society. In addition to volunteering, Greenville Zoo hosts career day events for teens throughout the year.

Learning the Arts

There’s an abundance of learning opportunities in the arts in the Upstate. Your teen can take acting classes at Spartanburg Youth Theatre and South Carolina Children’s Theatre, as well as summer classes at USC Upstate. For musicians, Lawson Academy offers several courses to help individuals perfect their skills. For aspiring artists, Spartanburg Art Museum and Greenville Center for Creative Arts offer classes just for teens.

These programs are all specially designed for teens to ensure they will have fun and learn at the same time. What’s even more exciting? Many of these places offer flexible scheduling, homeschool classes, and a wide variety of summer camps just for teens!

The Most Romantic Dates in Spartanburg, SC

Posted on |

Are you looking for an idea for your next date night in Spartanburg, SC? We’ve identified some of the most romantic dates in town. The various date options on this list make it possible for Spartanburg couples to enjoy a variety of dates year-round.

Date night ideas in Spartanburg, SC

Spartanburg’s Most Romantic Dates

Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching, and the pressure is on to make the day extra special. Have no fear! You can plan a romantic evening with your love right here in town, no matter your budget. And even better, you can go on dates any time of year, not just Valentine’s Day.

Local Restaurants in Spartanburg are Perfect for Date Nights

Spartanburg has several amazing restaurants that offer delicious meals and date night atmospheres. Depending on your tastes and your budget, here are some of the most popular date night restaurants in Spartanburg.

If you’d like to learn more about some of the most romantic restaurants in Spartanburg, don’t miss our list!

There are so many [date night options]! City Range has a beautiful fireplace to help set the ambiance. The Kennedy provides a unique chef’s table experience. Longhorn has a killer steak with a fun atmosphere. Renato’s is fabulous for authentic Italian.

Dodi

The Peddler Steakhouse for a nice relaxed dinner.

Deysi

Take It to the Roof

In addition to the popular restaurants listed above, Spartanburg also has a few rooftop dining options for couples. At Bar 1884, you can enjoy a bite to eat, a beverage, and each other’s company under the stars.

Level 10 on top of the AC Hotel has amazing food options and views of the city. If you want an ultra-romantic date, you can reserve the sunset deck for private dining.

Enjoy a Picnic

If you would rather avoid the restaurant scene and save some money, you can always pack a picnic and enjoy it at one of the lovely parks in the area. I suggest Hatcher Garden and Woodland Preserve or Milliken Arboretum.

Embrace the Arts

Fan of the movie Ghost? You can take a pottery wheel class at Hearts of Clay. They offer various pottery and adult painting classes all year long.

Have Some Drinks

For those wanting to skip a big meal, you can easily plan a romantic date with just drinks in downtown Spartanburg. Coffee fans will love the atmosphere of Little River Coffee Bar. You can enjoy coffee and baked goods and then peruse the bookstore. That sounds like a dream date to me!

If you are a wine lover, Bond Street Wines downtown offers wine flights and serves wine by the glass. Is beer is more your style? Downtown Spartanburg has several great options for you, such as RJ Rockers, Ciclops Cyderi & Brewery, and Holliday Brewing.

Get A Little Sporty

If your idea of romance involves more play and less googly eyes across a dinner table, then you’ll love playing Sparkle City Mini Putt (for free!) or bowling a few strikes at UnderPin Lanes ‘N Lounge. Another downtown hangout, Fr8 Yard, offers a huge screen for viewing sports, cornhole, ping pong, and fire pits. If you feel the need for speed, Speed Factory Indoor Karting is a great place to get an adrenaline rush together.

For my husband’s birthday, we ate lunch at Sidewall Pizza, then bowled at UnderPin Lanes & finished up with a beer at Growler Haus.

Tara

Underpin was really fun!

Worth a Drive to Greenville

Greenville has a lot of great date night options, but many of the things you might travel to Greenville for, you can also enjoy in Spartanburg. However, Spartanburg does not have The Chef’s Table Culinary Tour. For the foodies, this is a dream date option that takes couples on a walking tour to enjoy some of the best restaurants in Greenville.

Splurge Ideas

If you want to go all out and plan a super romantic date, you don’t have to travel far. Landrum offers several romantic date possibilities. It’s home to the amazing Red Horse Inn, as well as the pick-up location for limousine wine tours that takes you to various wineries right over the North Carolina border.

Feed the Ducks at Milliken

Milliken Corporation Headquarters is located in Spartanburg just off Pine Street and Interstate 585. It is a large and beautiful campus, often confused as a park, as it features more than 500 different trees and shrubs, 15 decorative fountains, and six ponds. The Milliken Arboretum is a nationally recognized greenspace on 600 acres at the Roger Milliken Center and is now one of the largest corporate arboretums in the Southeast. The campus is open to the public, and Spartanburg families have been making memories at these duck ponds and picnic spots for generations.

Note: Some healthy foods to feed ducks include corn, peas, oats, or birdseed.

Get his/her own Library Card

Our Spartanburg County Library system is awesome. Every child should be a card carrying member and have the responsibility of checking out and enjoying his or her own library selections. There are also interesting activities and programs offered at each location for kids and families. Having a library card and participating in library activities should be enjoyed by each Spartanburg child.

Eat at Wades and the Beacon

No doubt, we could (and may) make a list of 30 places in Spartanburg you should eat, but there are a few restaurants so iconic, that they should make every list about Spartanburg. When I asked my family what should be included on this list, they all either said the Beacon or Wades!

Explore Downtown Spartanburg

Downtown Spartanburg is becoming quite the place to be! There are new restaurants, shops, and activities opening all the time. You can find something new to do, eat, or buy almost any day of the week, any time of the year. An afternoon or even a whole day can be spent exploring the
downtown area of Spartanburg.

Skate at Roebuck Skating Center

Kids have been celebrating birthday parties and Friday nights at Roebuck Skating Center since 1978. The local hangout has recently updated their entire facility and the venue now includes a 3 story, 2500 square foot indoor playground. Take the family, lace up your old school skates and show the kids how it’s done.

Visit HubCity Railway Museum

Railroad transit shaped the history of Spartanburg and the HubCity Railway Museum is the place to go to learn all about the history of trains in our city, as well as Spartanburg history in general.

Hub City Railroad Museum Spartanburg, SC

Go to Summer Camp

There are a ton of summer camps in our area depending on your child’s interests. Summer camps are a great way to make lifelong friends and develop personal knowledge and skills. Summer Camps are also a great way to experience all Spartanburg has to offer families!

Tour Local Colleges

Spark kids’ interest in higher education by visiting one of the many colleges in our area. Your family can tour the campuses and attend collegiate sporting events at a variety of beautiful upstate schools. Wofford College, Converse College, University of SC Upstate, Spartanburg Methodist College and Spartanburg Community College are all within Spartanburg County, or you could travel a little further and visit many others like Clemson, Furman, or Bob Jones.

Visit Hatcher Gardens

This public botanical garden and woodland preserve is a gem right in the heart of Spartanburg. Its a beautiful escape any time of the year, but Hatcher Gardens in the spring is really something every kid should experience. This 10-acre garden, primarily planted by volunteers, offers a woodland setting with trees, shrubs, flora, waterfalls, creeks ponds, and both paved and natural paths. The garden is open during daylight hours and is free to the public.

Visit the BMW Zentrum Museum

There’s no denying that the BMW plant is a huge part of Spartanburg’s identity. It is the only BMW manufacturing plant in the US and there is also a very interesting BMW museum here too. You’ve probably passed this cool building facing Interstate 85 at the edge of BMWs campus. The Zentrum is a state of the art facility, with free admission, where you can learn history, see the cars, and even grab a bite in the cafe. Learn as a family, how BMW plays a huge part in our economic culture.

Explore our State

The glory of our state is not contained to Spartanburg and the beauty of it is you can get to any part of our great state in a few hours. Spartanburg kids should explore as much of South Carolina as possible while growing up, from the coast, to the mountains, farmlands to the cities. There’s a little of everything here. Spartanburg kids are blessed to grow up in such an awesome city and state.

Step back in Time at Walnut Grove Plantation

Charles & Mary Moore settled in what is now the Roebuck area in 1767. The home is now part of the Spartanburg Historical Association and open to the public. Spend a day touring the house, outlying buildings, property’s cemetery, and nature trail, to see how some of the first residents of our area lived.

Explore Other Cultures

The Spartanburg International Festival began in 1985 and has grown into one of our most anticipated annual events. Its usually held in October and celebrates the many diverse cultures of our residents and businesses. It’s a full day of music, art, dance, food and international fun! Your family will enjoy celebrating Spartanburg’s rich international culture.

Enjoy Spartanburg Parks

We are fortunate in Spartanburg to have a thriving Parks and Recreation Department. Spartanburg kiddos should visit as many of these parks as possible. The Spartanburg Parks website gives you a list of all our parks, by location and amenity.

Star Gaze in the Country

There are numerous places in Spartanburg where you can get away from the city lights and urban development so you can really see the stars. Pick a comfortable, clear night, and find a remote corner of Spartanburg where you can look up and experience stargazing in the country.

Enjoy Strawberry Hill USA

The Shed at Strawberry Hill USA is a simple, historic peach shed built in 1955 and used as a peach packing shed through 1989. The original packing shed was transformed into a premier roadside market by 1990 and as of 2017, Strawberry Hill U.S.A. is the largest strawberry farm in SC with 115 acres. Peaches are still the primary crop with close to 1,000 acres in production but you will also find summer squash, cucumbers, cantaloupes, runner beans, and pumpkins grown and sold at Strawberry Hill.

You will get a taste of farm life as you see the tractors pull around the shed with a load of fresh peaches or strawberries fresh from the field. You can also visit the adjacent family restaurant and ice cream parlor. Be sure to check The Shed’s hours before you go – their hours are seasonal…but the cafe and ice cream parlor are open year round!

Splash at Shipwreck Cove

Shipwreck Cove Water Park, in Duncan, SC, is technically part of Spartanburg Park and Recreation but deserves it own spot on the list as Spartanburg’s only water park. This family-friendly water park offers fun for all ages and is open from Memorial Day until Labor Day each year. There is a larger pool for older kids with rustic pirate play ship and multi-directional water cannons, two large flume slides on it’s main pool, a kiddie lagoon with misting water features, a lazy river around skull island with inflatable tubes, and certified lifeguards on duty at all times.

There is also a snack bar and a playground area of the neighboring Stone Ledge Park.

Celebrate a Dickens Christmas

A Dickens of a Christmas has become a community tradition that festively celebrates the start of the Christmas season. The “Charles Dickens” period event offers a Christmas Market, carolers dressed in Victorian costume, horse-drawn carriage rides, live Christmas music, living window displays, ice skating on Morgan Square, and of course the official lighting of the Denny’s Christmas tree. Your family should experience Spartanburg’s signature yuletide celebration.
