Dog-friendly picks: Grandad’s, Justus, Sky Top, Stepp’s, Windy Hill, and Chattooga Belle all allow leashed dogs in at least some areas.
Best bet for a bakery visit: Grandad’s Apples, Justus Orchard, and Sky Top Orchard all offer fresh apple cider donuts and other bakery treats on-site, with Jeter Mountain Farm and Windy Hill Orchard great options if you’re up for a slightly longer drive. (Or take our apple cider donut tour so you can visit more than one!)
Reservation spots: Jeter Mountain and Windy Hill require reservations for u-pick, which helps keep the orchard a little more coordinated. Sky Top is recommending reservations but it’s not required. It also helps you choose a time to pick the variety of apple you want based on what is ready or not.
Farthest but worth the drive:Apple Hill Orchard (Morganton, NC) is the furthest orchard on our list at ~2 hours, or Windy Hill if you love ciders and want to check out York County.
