At the Y, we never turn anyone away because of an inability to pay. Participants with a financial need are encouraged to apply for scholarships for any portion of the program fee that is not affordable. The YMCA uses a sliding scale to evaluate each applicant on an individual basis. Let us know your need, and we will work to help you. Download an application here.
The YMCA of Greenville offers swim lessons that suit all ages and ranges of abilities. From parent/child classes for babies and toddlers, water acclimation and stamina classes for swimming fundamentals, to stroke development and mechanics for more advanced swimmers, the Y has something for each progressive stage of development of your child’s swimming ability. We also offer Water Safety Week and Swim League training in the Spring for your swimmer to get ready for competition before the SAIL season begins.
YMCA of Greenville offers dance classes in partnership with Carolina Dance Collaborative as a part of afterschool enrichment throughout the school year at several branches for children from two to 12 years old. Types of dance taught are Little Learners for young beginners to learn the foundations of dance, to ballet and hip hop. Classes are also held throughout the summer months at the Caine Halter and Verdae branches.
Students will learn karate, self-defense (Stranger Danger), skill development, leadership, flexibility, our anti-bullying program, mental and self-control. The main focus of this program is character development through the martial arts. Each class will introduce new skills and ideas while building on what they have already learned. Class meets one day per week for twelve weeks in both the Spring and Fall. At the end of the three-month course, students will have the skills required to advance to a new level. This includes the proper execution of self-defense releases, punches, kicks, blocks, and stances.

The YMCA of Greenville offers a wide variety of specialty day camps in addition to traditional day camp during the summer to help your child build new skills and explore new ideas. Camps offered range from sports (soccer, cheerleading, karate, swimming, tennis and golf to name a few), dance and the visual arts to healthy cooking and science camps like Robots & Rocket Ships, All Creatures Great and Small, and Archaeology camps.
A traditional overnight adventure camp for girls and boys, ages 5 – 18, Camp Greenville offers the best of both worlds – the classic, loved summer camp of the past, adapted to the needs of today’s children and parents. Campers enjoy a balanced mix of adventure, fun, and tradition, all in a beautiful mountaintop setting. Our back to basics approach – screen-free, no phones, no internet – lets campers connect with nature and themselves. Kids have the support of Camp Greenville’s unique cabin system and outstanding counselors, giving campers the security of family and the confidence to make new friendships and develop independence. Most of all, Camp Greenville’s campers have fun making memories to last beyond the summer. Most of our counselors are former campers themselves, and go on to send their own children to Camp Greenville– it’s an experience that lasts a lifetime.
The YMCA’s Adventure Guides program has been providing opportunities for fathers and their children ages 5-8 to develop strong relationships through positive experiences since 1925. Father/child pairs are grouped into Expeditions of six to ten dads and their kids from the surrounding community. Expeditions meet monthly for a 90-minute meeting. Expeditions take part in monthly Federation Events. Events include two campouts at YMCA Camp Greenville, family cookouts, a father/child cake bake/chili cook-off, and a father-daughter semi-formal Valentine’s dance. The commitment is small: one 90-minute Expedition meeting and one event a month.
Find more information and register on the YMCA’s website.
Rama says, “I like the YMCA because they help them and teach rather than try to make them these serious players when they are so little. We have done soccer at the Y and we are doing spring soccer also and it’s been really good so far.”

When kids are older and/or looking for a competitive program I think Palmetto Gymnastics Academy on Pride St in Simpsonville is awesome. My son has been taking gymnastics lessons since he was 18months old, and he’s soon to be 8, so we’ve explored this area regarding this question quite a bit.”
