Have you tried Ciao Bella Scratch Italian Kitchen? If you’ve been craving a meal of fresh pasta in Greenville, you should. There are only a handful of places locally that offer fresh-made pasta, and the owners of Sofrito Latin Restaurant and Bar and Tacos & Mas own one of those places: Ciao Bella Scratch Italian Kitchen. How did the owners of Tacos & Mas wind up opening an Italian restaurant? Kidding Around’s Melanie is going to explain how this new concept for Ana & Hector Batista came to fruition.

How Ciao Bella Began

I can vividly remember when Tacos & Mas first opened in Greer. Social media was buzzing, and not a single bad comment. This caught my attention. Well, the tacos caught my attention, and all the love they were getting from customers in the Upstate retained it. I went to find out for myself and discovered the fuss the Upstate was making was warranted! Never mind that the owners’ Ana & Hector, treat their customers like family coming to a dinner party. That’s why they have created such a loyal base of regular customers.

That’s why when they decided to rebrand the newer Woodruff Road location, people questioned the plan. The Batistas explained that Tacos & Mas didn’t only serve tacos, and with all of the different taco places crowding onto Woodruff Road, it was time to set themselves apart. They changed the name to Sofrito Latin Restaurant, adjusted the menu a little, and they haven’t looked back. Then the pandemic hit, and decisions needed to be made. More taco places were slated to open, and it was decided that the Greer location of Tacos & Mas would be converted to serve the food that owner and Chef, Hector Batista had been trained in.

Thus was born Ciao Bella.

I don’t know about you, but just like the perfect taco, when you are craving a dish made with fresh pasta, nothing else will do. Unlike tacos, there aren’t a ton of places offering fresh pasta in the Upstate. If you haven’t made it to Ciao Bella yet, you should pick a night where the weather is nice and head to their patio to enjoy a romantic Italian dinner.
