Gather GVL: Outdoor Dining and Entertainment Venue in Greenville, SC

Posted on | No Comments

Have you heard of Gather GVL? This set of shipping container restaurants, entertainment, and gathering space is located in Downtown Greenville. We think you’ll want to check out this unique spot pronto.

Have you ever wished you had a place to go spend time with other adults, maybe enjoy a grown-up beverage and let your kids run around, without someone having to host it? The answer to that wish and more is in downtown Greenville, and there are so many reasons to be excited.

Gather GVL

What Is Gather GVL?

Utilizing shipping containers, they’ve created a unique space where people can “Gather” and enjoy local food, beverages, and entertainment. Creating a space downtown where people could dine without making reservations or having the option of a drive-through was one of the inspirations for creating this space.

Outdoor seating space at Gather GVL

Another inspiration for Gather was the young children in Mack and Doug Cross’ lives. The father and son duo behind this unique new dining hall told me that having space where families could enjoy going out and not have to worry about the kids just being kids, was one of the reasons they created Gather. If your kids are four-legged and furry, don’t worry they’re welcome too!

Feed the Ducks at Milliken

Milliken Corporation Headquarters is located in Spartanburg just off Pine Street and Interstate 585. It is a large and beautiful campus, often confused as a park as it features more than 500 different trees and shrubs, 15 decorative fountains and six ponds. The Milliken Arboretum is a nationally recognized greenspaces on 600 acres at the Roger Milliken Center and is now one of the largest corporate arboretums in the Southeast. The campus is open to the public and Spartanburg families have been making memories at these duck ponds and picnic spots for generations.

Note: Some healthy foods to feed ducks include corn, peas, oats, or birdseed.

Have his/her own Library Card

Our Spartanburg County Library system is awesome. Every child should be a card carrying member, and have the responsibility of checking out and enjoying his or her own library selections. There are also interesting activities and programs offered at each location for kids and families. Having a library card and participating in library activities should be enjoyed by each Spartanburg child.

Eat at Wades and the Beacon

No doubt, we could (and may) make a list of 30 places in Spartanburg you should eat, but there are a few restaurants so iconic, that should make every list about Spartanburg. When I asked my family what should be included on this list, they all either said the Beacon or Wades!

Enjoy Strawberry Hill USA

The Shed at Strawberry Hill USA is a simple, historic peach shed built in 1955 and used as a peach packing shed through 1989. The original packing shed was transformed into a premier roadside market by 1990 and as of 2017, Strawberry Hill U.S.A. is the largest strawberry farm in SC with 115 acres. Peaches are still the primary crop with close to 1,000 acres in production but you will also find summer squash, cucumbers, cantaloupes, runner beans, and pumpkins grown and sold at Strawberry Hill.

A Dickens of a Christmas has become a community tradition that festively celebrates the start of the Christmas season. The “Charles Dickens” period event offers a Christmas Market, carolers dressed in Victorian costume, horse-drawn carriage rides, live Christmas music, living window displays, ice skating on Morgan Square, and of course the official lighting of the Denny’s Christmas tree. You can view and purchase tickets for the 2025/2026 season on the Greenville Swamp Rabbits ticketmaster site. October 17th, 2025 is the opening night!

Things to Remember Before a Swamp Rabbits Game

  • The Bon Secours Wellness Arena has a clear bag policy.
  • Arriving early to the game is a good idea so you can grab any food, drinks, or participate in any pregame activities before finding your seat.
  • Parking in the parking garages can cause a headache at the end of the game. We recommend uses the lots around the arena, or parking in a garage a little further out to avoid the gridlock. You can find lots in our Guide to Parking in Downtown Greenville.
  • Younger kids will benefit from headphones, as the arena (and the fans) can get loud.
  • Be prepared to end up on the big camera! Just in case. The arena cameraman regularly surfs the crowd during intermissions.
  • Have fun! Even if you have never been to a hockey game, it is a lot of fun. You’ll be a fan by the end of the night.

6 Stress Busting Date Ideas in Greenville, SC

Posted on | No Comments

How about a date and stress busting activity all at the same time? Sometimes we need some physical ways to get out pent up frustration and stress, right? And maybe doing that with our significant other could be fun. Here are some Greenville for date ideas that are also great for busting stress and getting out some of that frustration.

Numerous studies point to pent up anger, stress, and frustration leading to physical problems like depression, gastrointestinal issues, headaches, insomnia, and aches and pains in joints. For me, exercise is a huge help for dealing with stress but I also like to use more enjoyable physical activities to help relieve this kind of stress. I’ve done everything in this list except for the last one!

I’d suggest these would be awesome date night activities as well since you can bond with your significant other while smashing a car or throwing a few punches at a bag. If you want more normal date night activities, we do have a big list of date night ideas in Greenville, SC!

Mad Smash

You can quite literally smash up a car or take swings at glass, plates, or anything else that can be destroyed with a bat or golf club. It feels really, really good to do this. Mad Smash is by appointment only.

250 Mill Street, 2nd Floor, Taylors

Axe Throwing

Grabbing an axe and chucking it at a target is a fantastic stress reliever. Craft Axe Throwing, Group Therapy, and Stumpy’s Hatchet House are all local places to do such a thing.

Kickboxing

While kickboxing is an awesome workout, it’s also a great way to release frustration. Mad about work? Punch that bag. Stressed about your kids and school? Kick the bag. Just irritated in general? Let. It. Out. For kickboxing here in Greenville, try 9Round. They have multiple locations around town.

Spinning

Spinning is basically biking except on a stationary bike that you can adjust to different levels to make your ride harder or easier. These bikes aren’t from the 80s – they are slick and durable and deliver a great sweat session. Bring your partner, water, a towel, and get spinning. You’ll feel awesome afterwards (if you can stand up). CycleBar® offers spinning lessons here in town.

301 East McBee Ave, Suite B, Greenville

Jump Around

While you’re not necessarily hitting things or trying to seriously tire out your body, you’ll definitely have the opportunity to feel like a carefree kid at a trampoline park. It makes for a fun date, jumping around, doing flips or swinging off a trapeze bar if you’re really adventurous. Here’s a list of trampoline parks in Greenville.

Sky Diving

This is the only thing in this list I haven’t done personally. And I won’t. But it was suggested by one of our writers who has done it and I imagine it’s because when you’re about to jump out of a perfectly good airplane by your own free will, you are literally thinking of nothing else and just letting the adrenaline take over. Good luck.
