FREE Lowe’s Kids Workshops (2025): What will you make this month?

Posted on |

Every month, Lowe’s Home Improvement offers FREE DIY workshops for kids at participating locations. These programs are a fantastic way to spend quality time with your kid, build practical skills together, and create keepsakes you’ll love! Local mom, Sarah Burnett, and other members of the Kidding Around team share their experience DIY-ing these projects with kids, plus tips on everything you need to do the same!

Lowes Kids Workshops are Free

Upcoming Lowes Kids Workshops:

Build and complete your project right in person at Lowes and you won’t even have to deal with the mess at home, or bring your free kit home and build whenever you want!

Navigate: All You Need to Know About Lowes’ Kids Workshops: Free Fun

Let’s face it: We all have things we wish we learned growing up—For me, handy skills are definitely somewhere near the top of that list. Driving a nail, drilling a hammer, you name it and I am probably clueless about it!

But how many times could I have used that knowledge in my adult life? I’ve lost count!

Imagine my relief when I stumble across others who are not only willing, but delighted, to teach those things! I am so thankful for their willingness to share their time and knowledge with my children, and with me alongside them.

And where do I find those people? Lowe’s Home Improvement!

-Sarah

Lowes workshops for kids

Remember, those kids are only little once. There are a lot of memories to be made right at Lowes. Kids love their free projects and so do their grown-ups. Go make those family memories and have fun now. They grow up quickly and you’ll both treasure memories of time spent together creating something fun at these hands-on workshops.

Watch! A Kidding Around Kid Shares One Lowes Kids Workshop Project

Lowes Kids Workshop for Mini DIYers

The Lowe’s kids workshops are similar to the other big box store where kids get a free construction project that is geared for their age and they get to put it together.

Building a lowes kids kit for free

On a different Saturday each month, our local stores offer DIY workshops just for kids.
These Lowes workshops center around different DIY projects each month, usually related to a holiday or seasonal theme, and every project gives kids the chance to practice…

  • Listening skills
  • Fine motor skills
  • Tool identification
  • Safe tool handling
  • Following instructions
  • Problem-solving
  • And more!

It’s 100% FREE to register, and one parent can register up to 4 children. Depending on staff availability, there may be in-person instruction on the day of the event, or we might be sent home with a kit and detailed instructions!

Kits come with all materials included, plus a special commemorative badge. Save these badges!

Lowes Workshop

Once your child earns 6 project badges, they will be eligible to receive a special Junior Builder badge! Once your child earns 12, they can receive a Senior Builder badge, too!

If you do your project in-store, you’ll also have all the necessary tools provided for you! In case you end up taking a project home, the only supplies we’ve ever needed are a small 8-ounce hammer and kid-sized safety glasses.

What Do Kids Make at Lowe’s DIY Kids Workshops?

Projects are generally geared towards children ages 6 to 12 years old, but we have done these
with kids as young as 3 and had a great time. All projects are designed to be completed by parents and children together, so you’ll be there to supervise and can easily adjust things to meet your child’s skill level.

Strategies to help your child could include lining up the project components, getting the nails
started, or even just handling the assembly altogether and letting them tackle the decorations if they are too young!

Project kits almost always come with stickers, and we like to add the occasional paint, too! We’ve built birdhouses, coin banks, utility vehicles, and more! Projects often relate to a holiday or seasonal themes, and they could be decorations or toys. There is wonderful variability, so no matter how many our children complete, they never get tired of it.

Lowes Workshop for kids

These projects also make fantastic gifts for parents and grandparents, whether you just give the
finished product or gift the whole experience of building something together. Truthfully, the quality time and shared learning experience of these projects is my favorite part.

I’m not even remotely creative, so a guided project that I can do with my kids? Absolute win!

Signing Up for Lowe’s Kids Workshops

So what are you waiting for? Call, go online, or stop by your local Lowe’s TODAY to register for their next workshop. Then watch with joy as your child’s competence and confidence grow!

Remember: REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED! We have scored the occasional take-home kit that was leftover after an event, but slots for these programs generally fill up in advance.

If you receive a take-home kit, don’t forget to ASK ABOUT TOOLS! You’ll want to make sure you have any necessary tools at home, or buy them before you leave the store.

Most importantly, HAVE FUN! If you’ve ever assembled your own furniture, you know even adults can get stressed when a project goes sideways. Always go into a project with your kids making FUN—not perfection—your priority, and you’ll be glad you did!

Do any other stores do free projects for kids?

Yes!

An Educational Trip To Charleston, SC

Posted on | No Comments

Are you looking for a way to sneak in a trip to the South Carolina coast with the kids, while also working in some educational content? There are so many opportunities for educational things to do in Charleston, SC! We’re sharing our recent educational trip to Charleston, SC with you just in case you want to explore, learn, and expand your knowledge, too.

Charleston is so rich with opportunities for learning. You, the parent might even learn some fun things along the way.

  • Like did you know a famous poet called one of the barrier islands home for a short time, prior to his fame?
  • You might know that the Civil War started in Charleston Harbor, but did you know what started it?
  • Did you know that there is a certain behavior that the dolphin pods residing in Charleston Harbor teach their young, which isn’t seen anywhere else?

See right there we covered language arts, history and science. That’s just a drop in the bucket of the things you can discover in Charleston, not to mention getting to relax in a beautiful setting.

Educational travel to Charleston, SC

For more things to see and do while in Charleston, check out our huge Guide To Charleston, SC.

Accommodations for this trip were generously provided by The Hotel Indigo Mount Pleasant. All opinions are my own, honest and genuine.

Educational Things to Do in Charleston, SC

Here are some of the fun educational things we found in in Charleston, SC:

The Young Soldier Stationed At Fort Moultrie

Subjects: Language Arts and History

On May 26th a young man enlisted in the Army, unable to afford the last three years of university and left without options. He lied about his age and his name and after just two short years of a five year term, he “hired” someone to complete his term.

That young man’s name was Edgar Allan Poe, and evidence of his short stay on Sullivan’s Island is all around you when you visit. If you are very clever, you can slip some Poe related math into your lesson.

Edgar Allan Poe Library Charleston

Learning Opportunities:

You can also include lessons on the history of Fort Moultrie. If you’ve never been to this National Park location before you can read this local mom’s review of Fort Moultrie, before you head out.

The Ellis Island Of Slavery

Subject: History/Social Studies

While you’re visiting Sullivan’s Island and Fort Moultrie, go behind the visitors’ center. There you will find a small black bench. Have a seat. That bench was placed there as a place to memorialize the history of enslaved Africans, and a place for people to reflect. When seated on “The Bench By The Road”, the first of many to have been placed since 2008, you’ll be looking out onto the water where most enslaved people entered this country.

This provides you with a great opportunity to talk to children about what it must have felt like to be brought to a foreign land, and how they would feel.

Exploring black history in Charleston, SC

Learning Opportunities

There are endless opportunities around Charleston to learn about slavery. One of my favorite “hands-on” opportunities is on Philadelphia Alley in the historic district. You and your children can stroll this brick-paved alley and find the handprints left behind by the slaves that formed the bricks at local plantations. Those bricks can also be found in the buildings at the local plantations, like Boone Hall Plantation.

The Unique Dolphins Of Charleston Harbor

Subject: Science

There are so many different things that are different ecologically in the Low Country from what we have around us in the Upstate. I love that in just a few hours we can go from a mountain ecosystem to a coastal one. This provides our children with so many opportunities to learn about the environment!

As a volunteer with a research laboratory in Florida while in college, I sat next to a Loggerhead Sea Turtle nest as it unexpectedly erupted. If I could somehow provide everyone on the planet with that magical experience I would. The next best thing is learning about them from afar, and maybe if you time your trip to the coast right, you could have a once in a lifetime sea turtle experience, too.

A more common sight off the shores of Charleston are the pods of wild dolphins that call these waters home. But these aren’t just any dolphins, they are so unique that they have been the subject of research studies. No one knows why, but the dolphins that are native to this area do something called strand-feeding.

Learning Opportunities

There is a good deal of eco-tours that will take you around the harbor and some will even have an ecology expert on board. We recently took an eco-tour with Sandlapper Tours and would recommend it as a safe option to learn about the ecology of the coastal waters.

Another option for aquatic study while in Charleston is a visit to the South Carolina Aquarium. You can use a virtual aquarium field trip, or go in person and then do the activities found online. The Aquarium is a great way to learn about the ecology of our state!

Home Away From Homeschool

Hotel Indigo Mount Pleasant

The Hotel Indigo Mount Pleasant generously provided us with a home-away-from-homeschool for this article and we loved our time there. Schoolwork is hard work, and it’s nice to have a place you feel safe to kick back and relax afterward. The hotel has an on-site restaurant, a huge outdoor pool deck, and heightened cleaning protocols.

hotel indigo mount pleasant

Eliza’s Bar + Kitchen has delicious options for any meal of the day. The kids loved having chocolate chip Belgian waffles for breakfast! My favorite was the wedge salad at dinner, make sure you get the ranch dressing.
The rooms also include a properly functioning mini-fridge. Something we find essential when traveling because there are always leftovers!

hotel indigo mount pleasant sc

For those traveling with pets, The Hotel Indigo is pet-friendly too! There are several great travel packages that include meals, pet stays, and more on the Hotel Indigo Mount Pleasant website

We love staying in Mount Pleasant because it’s centrally located. The Hotel Indigo is just a short drive across the Ravenel Bridge to the downtown area, and you don’t have to pay downtown parking prices, in fact, parking here is totally free!

Travel Times to Popular Destinations from Hotel Indigo Mount Pleasant :

  • Patriots Point – 3 minutes
  • The South Carolina Aquarium – 9 minutes
  • Sullivan’s Island – 10 minutes
  • Historic Charleston – 11 minutes
  • Isle Of Palms – 14 minutes
  • Folly Beach – 24 minutes
  • Kiawah Island – 58 minutes

What Families Are Saying

We asked our Kidding Around Community what they thought about Parkside Pediatrics and the responses were overwhelmingly positive and kept pouring in! Take a look for yourself:

My daughter sees Kori Adkins at the Verdae location. We love Kori! She is great with my daughter, always takes her time and asks us if we need anything. My daughter loves the bubble machine in every exam room!”

As a foster parent, we have to take our children to be seen by a doctor within 30 days of placement. Parkside understands the process and accommodates getting new kids in quickly!

Parkside Pediatrics 2025

We have seen Dr. Bhatia since my daughter was born 7.5 years ago. She always goes above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and listens when I have concerns. As soon as I bring something to her attention or we need a referral, we have it within a few days. I’m also a huge fan of the availability they have to get us seen.

They are always very quick to respond and/or get us seen; the staff is sweet and friendly; the doctors are so knowledgeable, easy to talk to, and have lots of great insight while respecting my judgement as a mother. I also greatly appreciate that we share common values (e.g., Scripture quotes in the lobby). I know my children are in good hands at Parkside.

My favorite thing is their availability to our needs. I cannot tell you how many times, especially in those early days, when I needed to call in the middle of the night for guidance. We always got a call back within 15 minutes and received amazing support and suggestions. If we needed to schedule a last minute appointment, the on call nurse would do it right then and there, at like 3am (for the next morning)! They always fit us in same day and it makes all the difference. All of the providers truly do listen and never rush you out of the office.

Rapid Fired Pizza: Greenville, SC’s Super Fast Pizza Place!

Posted on | No Comments

We have all had pizza, but have you had a Rapid Fired Pizza?
Greenville has two locations that will help you get dinner on the table super duper quick! Your family wants dinner every night, shocker, and you’re running out of ideas. Pizza makes a great choice because of how customizable it is. Maybe it’ll help solve that daily question, “What’s for dinner?” at least until tomorrow!

Rapid Fired Pizza

There are currently five Rapid Fired Pizza locations in the Upstate! Two in Greenville, one in Spartanburg. one in Easley, and one in Anderson.

Pepperoni or cheese. That’s what the majority of children like on their pizza. It’s for this reason; that most parents can’t remember what they like topping theirs. But the Upstate has another option for pizza that can solve this problem for parents, and my family couldn’t be more excited.

Making Your Rapid Fired Pizza Creation

Rapid Fired Pizza makes 9”-11” pizzas that are custom-made right in front of you, so everyone can get what they like! They offer several crust options, including a gluten-free crust and an option called “No Doh” prepared on a bed of spinach and parmesan cheese.

One of the best parts is that the pizza is cooked in just minutes – 180 seconds, to be exact. That is just one more of the reasons Rapid Fired Pizza is so family-friendly. Food served quickly keeps the little people happy, which keeps parents happy.

Making pizza at Rapid Fired Pizza

After your pizza is cooked, you can visit the sauce bar and add one of over a dozen different sauces. There are so many choices! Luckily, they offer signature pizzas where all the toppings are curated for you so you don’t have to make all those decisions. Unless of course, you want to!

Sauce bar at Rapid Fired Pizza

Go traditional or be unique

Here are just a few of the combinations we’ve tried!

  • Taco pizza and complimented it with the sweet habanero and chipotle ranch sauces; it was awesome!
  • Chicken Pesto Pizza, adding kalamata olives, red onion, artichoke, and parmesan to the ingredients already included.

Kids’ Meals and More at Rapid Fired Pizza

Kids’ meals are affordable and include a cheese or pepperoni pizza, cookie, and beverage.  On Wednesdays, kids’ meals are free (one kid meal per adult) and include a cookie and drink.

If you’re not in the mood for pizza, they also offer calzones, pasta, and salads.

You can also order online and pick it up on your way home. Super easy – and tasty.

A great way to expose our families to different cultures is through food. People take great pride in the food of their ancestors, and it’s one of the easiest ways for culture to be shared other than music. That’s one reason the owner of Aryana, Nelo, opened her restaurant in the heart of Greenville, to share the food of Afghanistan with people.

And those people have not only supported her endeavor but headed to the internet to share their love and support with others.
